We picked up a cat from them. But then we have some issues with the cats. The following week, it had a lot of trouble getting ahold of them, but I'm sure they just seem like they stayed pretty busy. You just have to be patient I guess

The girl at the front counter is probably a big reason the kennels are so full! It's no wonder they have so many animals that need a home, it's almost like they are trying to deter anyone from adopting. They make you make an appointment to see the puppies, but it's ok to see the older animals. Makes no sense to me. My heart goes out to the animals at this location. I will never go back....

Employees were friendly and helpful. Went there to hopefully adopt a dog that was on a info page but was too slow getting there. Employees told me to keep checking in.

Rescued my dog from here almost a year ago and she was the best addition to our family. May look into getting another one

Adopted a dog, labeled as child friendly and dog friendly. 24 hours later.... adopted dog attacked our puppy, he had to be euthanized. While our 2 year old puppy had to have a leg amputated. My wife and I both were attacked as well. Was told they do not asses their animals only go by what previous owner told them. This can not happen again they need to be shut down. Unfortunately Yelp will not allow me to post the pictures of pur dog post surgery. Where you can see the 100 plus staples from where they removed her leg.

We have adopted several wonderful cats and dogs from Berkeley County Humane Society over the past 30 years. This is a very well managed shelter, with an extremely caring and professional staff!

The animals seem happy even though they don't have a home nice to see them In the cat play area. Sad that I don't think we can play with the dogs

Staff are friendly and professional. Facilities are clean. After checking in with the front desk you can pretty much look at any of the animals you want. They have a large field outside for one on one socialization with a potential new pet. Great place.

The Berkeley Humane Society scheduled a spay for my Husky mix puppy in early September. i interviewed with a volunteer and was asked to take my dog to the vet before the appointment, which i did. the vet appointment was over $500 and records were immediately sent to the vet, Dr. Morrissey. over the next two weeks i got about ten emails from Berkeley Humane. Seven of them confirmed the appointment saying, see you Tuesday! the day before the appointment, at 1 pm (i did not see the email until 4 pm) the vet canceled the appointment because she (wrongly) claimed she never got the “full “ records w noted that had been sent to BHS no less than 3 times. when i protested, no one but the “development director @ (i.e. fundraiser who has zero experience w animals) said that not only would the appointment be cancelled but i could not come back at a rescheduled date, as the vet had promised, because she claimed i had been “uncommunicative.” by the way, a week before the surgery I was told the facility is closed for 5 days , Wednesday through Sunday, after a series of neuter and spay surgeries and that i ( and all other patients that dsy) had to make other “arrangements “ for post surgery care. i was also not provided with ANY meds or tests pre-surgery. i got all of that , including pain and anti-nausea meds, from my vet. when i asked the “development director “ why and how the vet could arbitrarily cancel a surgery confirmed many times less than 25 hours before, she said the vet said i had not properly communicated w her, even though there was zero evidence of that . they screwed me and my dog over, after i spent $500 on the pre-op appointment. what’s most outrageous is that they provide ZERO pre of post surgery care for dogs or. cats. they have only one vet in staff who apparently decides on a whim who she will follow through with. so she is fine scheduling an appointment on September 1 thst she then cancels on November 21 because she didn’t carefully read the records she got. furthermore, the website snd many messages i received say nothing about having to comply w a fickle and moody vet who might very well cancel the night before if she gets a “bad feeling “. from a pet owner she has ecxchanged three emails in which i was forthcoming and professional. And they never asked me for any information isbout my dog , nothing not her weight or breed or temperament since then, i have heard this kind of stuff is well known at Berkeley Humane. DONT use them unless you are wealthy. apparently they say they are doing something altruistic but it’s actually set up to mage the few employees who have experience w animals feel good about themselves, the actual animals and owners they really could care less. i couldn’t believe how badly i was treated after all i went through to comply w their unreasonable demands

Great place to adopt a pet, but it is not first come, first serve anymore. It is by appointment mostly. So you contact them online and they will reserve the animal of your choice. Then you just come in on your appointment time and claim your new pet. If you miss your appointment, they will unreserve the animal, and then others will have an opportunity to adopt them. They do allow anyone to walk in and adopt animals, but of course, not the ones that are currently reserved. Even if they are in the kennel when you walk in, you can not adopt them, but you could place your name on a waiting list for that specific pet and if the people with the reservation do not show up at the appointed time or cancel their appointment, then you will be next in line to have the animal reserved under you and they will give you a call if you are still interested.

I drove 2+ hours to adopt what was said to be a 7 yr old cat from this shelter. As the cat I wished to adopt was growling and not very friendly, I adopted it w/out properly meeting it - my fault. The staff put him in the cage I brought and it wasn't until I got him home and got a good look at him that it was apparent that something was very wrong. A few vet visits and $1k later, it was determined he had cancer. I was able to put him on some medication and give him a decent quality of life and loving home for 8 months until yesterday when I had to say goodbye to him. Shame on the family who dumped him there, shame on the shelter for letting him be adopted, shame on the intake vet who didn't clearly see he had an issue. The ONLY good thing that came of all of this is that my cat had a loving, caring family at the end of his life and didn't have to live it out in a shelter in pain where he was just another cat.

INCREDIBLY RUDE staff. I have never been treated so poorly by anyone in my life. Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had at a shelter, and we went to all of them in the area. Unbelievable.

Saw a listing on pet finder dated 10/4 for a dog. The listing stated loves kids and dog selective. I called and scheduled an appointment to do a meet and greet. We talked for 5 minutes about this dog and agreed we’d do a meet and greet. I drive 20 miles and I’m told by a women who looks like she does drugs that because I have a dog we can’t do a meet and greet. I explain that I was told just 3 hours prior it was fine and the listing said.. she said nope. I asked if I could just meet her then, the women said “we’re not letting you go home with her if you have another dog. So”So basically, i wasted my time driving there and back (40 miles) and unfortunately the dog wasn’t even given a chance at finding a home. Do better.

All the girls are super nice I ran across and the older gentleman that wears the hat is always super cool everytime we stop in. The seem genuine about loving animals and seem to love their jobs
