Offering a wide range of print material, hiking and tourist accessories, apparel, and general gifts and miscellaneous items, the Bookshop at historic Harpers Ferry is a stop that many touring visitors may will want to make. While the shop is relatively small, inventory is anything and of high variety that visitors of any age can enjoy.

Harpers Ferry Park Association Certified Guide Tours - First, allow me to thank tour guide Chris C for his very high level of courtesy and accommodation. I'm by no means a Civil War buff or history buff, but I am interested in the Civil War. I grew up in Jackson, Mississippi, an hour away from Vicksburg. I've taken private tours of Antietam, Harpers Ferry, and Gettysburg. While I really enjoyed Chris's Harpers Ferry tour, I felt that the tours of Antietam and Gettysburg helped me understand those events more clearly and viscerally than the Harpers Ferry tour. My tour guide at Antietam had family who fought for the North. He brought many photos on the tour. My tour guide at Gettysburg is a retired middle school history teacher, and he brought a book to the tour whose diagrams illustrated the movements of the battles. I feel like I came away from the Antietam and Gettysburg tours having learned more and feeling more impacted emotionally. That being said, the Harpers Ferry tour is still highly recommended. It's a great way to learn about the battle and see the town. If I'm in the area, I would take the tour again.

Cute bookshop with all kinds of historic books and toys! Very educational for children and adults. They have books about historic figures, about animals, trees, and more. They also have some cool like plant and animal identification books to check out. Love this shop and you should totally visit if your in the area?

We toured this historical town of the Civil War Era. I think, not sure this town is under the care of the National Park service. I saw a park ranger leading a walking tour. Many of the original buildings were turned into exhibition halls. Some were turned into commercial businesses such as restaurants and gift shops. One important building still standing was the one John Brown and his men took their last stand against the US army. The family and I enjoyed exploring this town under perfect weather. Parking inside the town was limited and not free. Offsite parking with shuttle service was available for a low cost.

A nice little village. One cool place to see is the Jefferson Rock, which Thomas Jefferson visited and called the most scenic place. From there see the ruins of the st. John's Episcopal Church, where only portions of the exterior wall remain. You can also see the site of the armory did John Brown raided in 1859 as well as the site of his capture. The fort he was captured in was relocated. The point is a scenic area where the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers meet. Crossing the Winchester in Potomac River Bridge takes you to the Maryland Heights and a walking trail along the Potomac. Only complaint is the $20 parking fee at the visitor center which you have to take a shuttle into town. Limited parking is available within the town but isn't much cheaper.

Nice stop to shop for Civil War books and paraphernalia, even has a children's section. It is located in Lower Town and I highly recommend it.
