This WAS my go to thrift store in Charleston a couple of years ago, I was in there 2-3 times a
Week and always found good stuff, but it’s not the same now. I took a break and stopped shopping there because there wasn’t a whole lot of stuff on the shelves and the clothing selection was bad, plus the prices are ridiculous. I
stopped in this week and almost walked right out, but I was with a friend who needed a table.
There were clothes on the floor under the racks and the floor was dirty.
I found a figurine that had a one dollar price tag from the dollar general - but they priced it for $3.99!
When we got back in the car my friend
Spotted a pair of sweatpants with poop on them close to the front door.

I used to never have any issues. I have tried to get in touch with their social services dept for a year. I would call to try to get info on resources and I kept get voice recording and no return call when I left voicemail. Recently reached out thru their fb page and they told me someone was always there and that the ones who run it and answer the phone were very nice. They told me the director was currently in the office. i called the number that moment and no one answered. I called the store and they sent a message to the office. Obviously the office took down my phone number from my prior calls where I left voicemail. I ended up getting a call back and the woman who I was in contact with was very rude. She told me that the director was out of town. She was very rude and basically refused to help me. I don't think I will ever patron their store or contact them for assistance again. I was lied to and treated badly.

They have some stuff here. I lot of it is dirty and has bugs/webs all on it. It doesn't appear that they clean anything up before placing it out for sale. It's not that big so there's not much to choose from. But overall there are some treasures there you might find. It's like they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure. I love what the Salvation Army stands for so I try and support them as much as I can.

TL;DR: salvation army has discriminated against me for being disabled at this location multiple times. The employees in thrifty store are typically too exhausted to be friendly. I'm glad they finally cleaned the store up. About 4 years ago it was not that clean. The food bank is why I'm giving such a low review and why I'll no longer support Salvation Army in any way. I'm also using my platform to let others know the discrimination I've faced. Others have warned they are anti LGBTQIA, but I've yet to hear how they discriminate against disabilities. Until it happened to me. The food bank lady is always rude. Talks over me in a bullying manner. I've used their food bank 3 times now. First time I asked for her to not give me gluten items like bread or cereal. She grunted, and rudely obliged. I let it go. The next time I didn't even ask because a new lady just stomped past me. This third time I had to ask more specifically. I'm autistic and have severe food aversions and allergies that are often disabling at times. During this pandemic I'm having to disinfect everything that comes into my home, which is exhausting. I asked the grumpy main desk lady if she'd be able to accomidate for food allegeries. She said sure and asked what. I started off telling her no red me. No pork or beef, but I can have chicken and fish. She then began talking over me like I was done. I said what about my gluten aversion? She raised her voice and rudely said she can't do all of that. It is a pandemic and she can't read every box. I told her that's ok, just please don't give me beef, bread, cereal, donuts, cookies, etc because I won't eat them. I'll have to throw them away. They can be given to someone else. She didn't listen at all. I was given a ton of groceries. 3/4 of it I can't eat because it will make me sick. This is discriminating against people with disabilities. All I wanted was not given these things to not be wasteful and not force me to disinfect things I can't even eat. That's all. I didn't ask to be given more of something else. I was actually asking her to do LESS work by not giving me the other food items. Her anger made her not even listen to logic. She should not be in any position where she works with vulnerable population. When I was handed my stuff, they sure made sure to say "God Bless". But what they really mean is "God Bless you if you fit our narrative of what an able bodied human being is. If you aren't, we don't want to help you really." The pictures provided are what I received this last time. On the left of the table (2nd picture) is all the food I can't eat. I'll be giving away to friends or having to throw away. Also note that whole container of fruit salad on the "can eat side", was completely rotten and slimy. When I complain about food aversions this isn't me being a picky eater either. This is I get gastroenteritis so bad I've passed out 3 times in one day, crapping myself. No I don't go into anaphylactic shock, but I get really sick. Most of your poor and vulnerable population have more food allergies than people that run these things care to acknowledge.
