This is a tiny but well-established little salt-harvesting business. Well worth the visit, the 20-minute tour was so interesting and informative I forgot to take pictures! The main shop is full of local and Appalachian handmade goods, and very meticulously decorated in a charming log-cabin style. There is a small, cultivated garden path outside as well. We were very impressed by the different salt flavors, and by their unswerving insistence on using low-impact farming methods and local ingredients in their flavored products. Our tour guide told us they'd been back in business for 10 years; I hope they have many more years ahead of them!

A fascinating tour (thank you, Lillian!) about both the history of salt harvesting in this special place and how they do it today. We really enjoyed our visit and loved the shop selection! It could only be made more perfect by having a small cafe so we could have lingered a little longer over a coffee.

Love this place so much. We were given the FREE tour by Lillian. She was awesome. I'd visit again. We saw how the salt was harvested, sifted by hand, and the shipping area. They ship it right to your home. We bought a few things at the store before we realized we could have a tour, so Lillian put our package behind the counter and put the sign out that she'd be back shortly. After the tour we bought a few more items as we learned about them on the tour.

We really enjoyed our tour - the guide was informative and did a great job at telling the history and describing the process of salt production. We especially enjoyed the tasting at the end of the tour. We purchased several items for our personal use as well as gifts in the shop.

I went here today to purchase a selection of Appalachian made products for a gift basket. They have a really nice selection and I ended up with flavored salts, caramel, chocolate, hot sauce, chili mix, cranberry sauce snd a really cute card. Huge bonus was the really interesting tour given by Lily. She covered the history of the salt works and then showed the steps in the process today. This is a great little tour for people who love history and for those who like to see behind the scenes.

I went here for an annual dinner. The place is fantastic for parties and receptions. There is a little store you can go into and buy their famous salt, and the Carmel is amazing! Most definitely buy some. The people there are very friendly! I know this review is fragmented but, check this place out for yourself, that's the best way to sum up what I am trying to say....
