Our first visit to Hillbrook will not be our last!! We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The food was excellently prepared and delicious. The shrimp and scallop pasta and the filet were both beautifully seasoned. The Brussel sprout and cauliflower appetizer was perfect-probably one of the best preparations of Brussels we've ever had. Such a lovely spot for a special occasion!

Such a cozy dining space. The Brussel sprout and cauliflower appetizer was delicious! The filet with squash puree and fingerling potatoes was delicious! The brandy sauce that accompanied the filet paired so well with the fall flavors of the dish. The wine was exceptional though pricey. I suggest offering some more mid-range selections. The service was outstanding despite a few minor mix ups. The waitress handled them professionally and apologetically and our meal was still delightful. I would definitely recommend dining here for special occasions or just a special treat!

It was true dining - beautiful surroundings, great food, wonderful service. The restaurant is divided into several dining rooms so it doesn't feel crowded and it is quiet. We will definitely return.

Upon ordering appetizers, we were told that two of the three items were no longer available as the menu was “switching” over. Wine list was extremely expensive (average $250 per bottle). We ordered lamb chops which was one of only five items on the menu. Unfortunately, the salad, lamb chops, nor dessert were very flavorful. After waiting 30 minutes to pay. Their credit card machine was down. Had cash, thankfully. The entire experience was disappointing.

My friend and I were there on a Monday evening (we were staying at the Inn), and there was only one other table in the restaurant. The menu was somewhat limited -- salmon, steak, lamb (which we had) and a vegetarian pasta -- but the food was fresh and of high quality. A cheese plate was offered as an appetizer, but since we wouldn't eat cheese before a main course, we had it for "dessert" and it was superb. The wine list was extraordinarily extensive and had wines in the $500 range (!). They were out of the moderately priced Lirac that we requested, but they served us a Catena Malbec (my second choice) for the price of the Lirac. Breakfast came with the rooms, and it was unbelievable -- one of the best breakfasts I've had anywhere, with an extensive menu of gourmet options. At both dinner and breakfast, the service was outstanding.

This is a difficult review for me to do as I had a wonderful time at a wedding. I say this because the people who work there did the best they could do with what they had. What I want to stress is that because of miserable cold, rain, and wind...the entire ceremony had to be done indoors. The building is an older 'mish-mosh' of old buildings or rooms added on over the years. The history of this place immediately goes back to George Washington owning the land, which is true, but ultimately historically meaningless for the building of the ceremony was held was built in the early 1920's. The rooms are small and fairly well maintained with a few rough areas like worn-out steps needing paint or some other coating. Also, the desk area of the concierge was cluttered with boxes and the brochure rack was more empty than utilized. What I would say is that the employees did a wonderful job with Jade being versatile and wonderfully nice in the many roles she handled while there.I would suggest that this place be utilized as long as your overall ceremony is less than 25 people in total. It is just too small to hold any more than that amount.I would strongly suggest more signage as every single person that drove here stopped at the first building not knowing it was not the correct building. Zero signage as we drove onto the property. It was a nice place but there were too many little details to prevent me from giving 5 stars.

What a fantastic resort to just enjoy a romantic dinner and refreshing bed and breakfast! The main estate is so beautiful. Just like traveling to Europe. Services are amazing.

My husband surprised me for my birthday with a night at the Hawthorne. The room was cozy, the house & setting were gorgeous. We had bad weather that day, so sitting in our room in front of the fireplace with a bottle of wine was perfect! Breakfast the next morning was delicious, the decor lovely and the staff were all welcoming and helpful. I enjoyed a facial at the spa while there, highly recommend!

Hidden Gem:I wanted to surprise my wife to a weekend getaway and came across Hillbrook Inn and saw only one room available, Sunrise, so decided to jump on the opportunity and boy, did we have a wonderful experience. The trip wasn't far and it was outside of Charles Town, WV.We were seen right away to check-in with easy instructions to our room, which you will need to drive to as it may be 5-10 minutes away. The room was lovely and we were able to enjoy a cheeseboard and a bottle of their red wine.We went back to the main house and enjoy a cocktail at their bar inside where we entered to check-in earlier that day. The bar tender had a lovely selection of specialty drinks. The best part is next, we had dinner reservations at their main restaurant and the Chef's menu was absolutely amazing. The entrees were a pierogi (excellently prepared I promise), wild boar ragu with pasta, a nice beef tenderloin and a lava cake. Our server, decantor a red pinor noir from Willamette Valley, which was a lovely pairing for the dishes. We retired for the evening and woke up the next morning, where we enjoyed their complementary breakfast and it did not disappoint. The biscuit and gravy was wonderful and the American breakfast was prepared perfectly. Their coffee was a wonderful light blend too.Afterwards, I enjoyed a facial with one of their spa employees and she did an amazing job as well.We cannot thank the employees enough and highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a place to get away.Thank you!

This is a very nice bed and breakfast. The grounds are lovely. The food was also excellent. The wine pairing with the chefs tasting menu was then desirable. The pours were very small and the explanations of the wines were bleak at best. I think they put an inexperienced employee in charge of this when I was there. She tried but for the money it was not acceptable. It was mostly taken off of my bill. I will visit again but I will not do the wine pairing menu. Overall go visit. It’s a good time.

Hillbrook made our stay highly memorable. I had made several customized requests of guest services via text. They were responsive, kind, and excited to help. When we showed up they had completed all of them. It made our stay even more special. Our breakfast was 5 stars. The coffee was great. The architecture and decorations of the home were enjoyable to admire. I'm not sure how our stay could have been better.

We tried the Rest and Rejuvenate package for the weekend.PROS: The one four course dinner we had on property was indeed excellent as was breakfast on Sunday morning in the dining room. Best eggs Benedict I've had in a long time. The couples massage was also amazing. Staff was overall very friendly and they certainly over-communicate via email/text. :-)Minor CONS: The suite was very nice overall but there was no way to control temperature in the room. So it fluctuated between incredibly warm, and then having to open windows to cool it off, and then being too cold. Had a billing snafu at the end, which they partially addressed. But I was overcharged by about $60 for the weekend above the package price. In the end I let it go and didn't feel like arguing the point. But do check your bill when you check out for complete accuracy.

After driving 6.5 hours we get there and are told they don't have a pet friendly room !! After I had made reservation online, picked early check in and breakfast but they say "it shouldn't have let you book that room" with dogs. I did it on your website on my phone, it gives me options to add a freaken cheese board but no option for a dog!?! Or how about in the description!? You don't offer alternatives or maybe I am so sorry!?! A freaken joke! Any other hotel/inn/motel Specifies.

I have never felt so much like Alice in Wonderland as I have in this place… It is a living storybook made out of actual magic, I am convinced! I am a designer, chef and restauranteur, and I found the ability of the kitchen to execute a menu at the level that they were for the amount of people that they were, an insane accomplishment, including being able to execute a zero proof cocktail with the same level of skill as one with alcohol… super impressive from the service, the decor!!!!, the layout, everything about this place was absolutely top-notch. Which is a really hard thing to accomplish post pandemic in this economy, etc. etc. I would also like to give accolades to creating a space in which a woman can be traveling alone and feel just as special as couples that may be staying and safe. I would give this place 10 stars if I could.
