This organization is working to serve a diverse community. Sometimes classes don't run for lack of enrollment, which is disappointing. When it's good, it's great.

In the 20 years I've lived on Vashon, I think there have been 2 things I enjoyed at the BH. As if the art they show isn't bad enough, they can't even manage to light it properly. It's as if all the paintings are being given the third degree. The people who work there are pretentious and rude. I suppose they ramp up the attitude to mask their extreme incompetence. It's too bad because it's a great building with huge potential, but they can't see beyond the ends of their own noses to do anything productive with it.

The Blue Heron has always had an unwarranted sense of self importance and omnipotence. Sure they have a few kids classes but like every other savvy money maker doing children-ish actives- they just cater to the task of making every adult involved feel like it's their class and not their kid's. It does things with the highschool- but where they could offer valuable help to high school artists they just do a show every year and have them bring friends in to look around the gallery and buy. Everything is so ceremonial and off center here. Obviously their lack of ability to actually enrich children through enrichment "camps" and "classes" is my biggest beef. What does a high schooler learn about getting their art out there when you throw a little party and then tell them they might get somebody to buy their art? Its cute and an ego boost- but all good artists know the ego isn't what art is about. Ego is always key on Vashon- it' like this place is a catalyst.

This place is a beautiful little art gallery that showcases work by local community artists. The art there comes in all shapes and sizes, from paintings to glass art to sculptures to jewelry! My boyfriend bought me a gorgeous necklace from here and I love it. The woman working here was really sweet and helpful and she didn't pressure us at all to make a decision. She instead gave great input when we asked! I love the necklace. It is handcrafted by a local artist and it is definitely my favorite necklace. It's absolutely lovely.

Vashon has always been an arts friendly community and this gallery, which has been around forever and ever is a terrific showplace for the community. They do have works of off island artists, but no matter who they're featuring it's always stunning and sometimes thought provoking. Painting, scultpture, mixed media... you name it and it'll show up here. If you visit the island, this is a must stop and see site, with nationally known artists.
