I’ve used this company since they were operating out of their garage at home. Unfortunately, I’m done. I had some business cards printed there, and one of their workers decided to add MORE of a bleed edge to them WITHOUT my consent, which resulted in a misprint that I’ve had to pay for. Attached are a copy of the file I submitted, which I submitted knowing the sides of the images would be cut. I added the pink to the to and bottom as a bleed. Whoever was in charge of printing these decided to, without my consent, add enough more of a bleed that the top and bottom of the cards have the bleed lines fully visible. The current owners said in an email that it was my responsibility to “extend the image fully through the bleed edges,” to which I say it’s their responsibility to either contact a client to obtain consent to make changes, or to print the file submitted. I would not have authorized changes as I submitted the file I did anticipating the edges being cut. I paid for cards I didn’t authorize, and they won’t take responsibility for changes they didn’t have permission to make. I’m not concerned about businesses never making mistakes, but am concerned about what they do when mistakes are made. A “We’re sorry we didn’t obtain consent to change your artwork, it won’t happen again and we’ll chance the policy so that no one changes any work without a creator’s permission” would have been fine and I’d have accepted the loss on this batch. But I can’t stand by “We made changes without your permission, and it’s your fault since you messed up,” especially when I didn’t—I intended those edges to be cut. Very sad since I’ve enjoyed this company for so many years, but this isn’t okay. They don’t accept their error and blamed me, at my expense.Don’t blame clients when you do something without permission that results in something printing the way the client didn’t want.ETA: Gotta love how her reply continues to blame me for not understanding how bleeds work even though the one and only time I’ve ever had a print issue was when unauthorized changes were made to one of my files, followed up with how it can be difficult for the staff to know what customers want. The simple solution? ASK THE CUSTOMER. This is the thing she absolutely refuses to do. Stop presuming and just ask. Literally all that I wanted from her was for her to start asking consent to change files. Even when she admits that the staff have difficulty determining, she still won’t have them ask. JUST ASK. Full stop. Just. Ask.

I love this copy place! They do great work, fast, and were helpful for a newbie like me who barely knows what I want done. They were able to guide my choices so I was able to get my cards and calendars printed exactly how I had envisioned them. Plus their prices were by far the best around. This is the only place I will have copies done from now on.
