When this store was Albertson's it was my favorite local store for decades, especially during its latter years when Jim worked there. He was beloved by all. But since its change to Safeway (apparently now to become Kroger/Safeway) the professionalism of the employees has taken a deep nose-dive. They are routinely indifferent, dismissive, and two weeks ago and yesterday--downright rude. Yesterday, a tall checker wearing a bow in their hair mistreated an elderly man ahead of me--refusing to honor the discount on oranges. I later saw him the parking lot where he explained he was picking up fruit to share with the homeless on hot day, but that the checker had been downright rude and dismissive. I comforted him saying that I'd witnessed it and what a shame--they ought to be reported to corporate. I noted to that poor elderly man who was just trying to do a kindness in buying that fruit, that the same checker had been equally rude to me and then kept taunting me with fake sing-song comments "have a nice day" or "hope your day is better" even when I asked them to stop the condescension. Even as I was walking all the way down past all the other checking stands and reached the door--they could be heard yelling out taunts at me, "have a nice day." Saying the words does not equal sincerity nor professionalism. The first issue had been that he card reader screen showed a place for a phone number, so I'd simply inquired of the checker whether I should enter my phone number. I was uncertain whether I should do it at that time OR after I inserted my card, so wanted to verify. The checker was so rude they wouldn't even look at me as I spoke. Then, rudely mumbled, "go ahead IF you want to!" I was puzzled and noted to them that I wanted to ensure I received the store discount. They didn't bother to respond. After a while they asked if I wanted a bag. That was it. No respect or dignity shown to the customer. And I don't know if I even received the store discount! Treating people with dignity, respect, and kindness does! I should note the elderly gentleman buying fruit for the homeless is a Black man and I am an American Indian/Native American elder woman. This will be reported to the corporate offices.

Ostracized by Safeway employee, Avery @ Safeway on Littlerock Rd. Avery humiliated a lifetime customer (I grew up receiving a complimentary cookie from your bakery dept, when my mom shopped for our weekly groceries, some 50+ years ago in Portland, OR; this was back in the day when Safeway's cashier's had an ashtray at the side of their register to contain all their cigarette butts, though from memory, they were usually dropped on the floor & smooshed with the sole of their shoe). Yes, times have changed; I'm pushing 60 years old, there's no more employees smoking inside, on the clock or older women in white uniforms offering children a fresh-baked complimentary cookie while their mom's shopping for groceries at Safeway; I get that.
What's given me the reason to comment is, how poorly I was treated by Avery, it seems more interested in justifying richous dweebiness & up high on the horse, while your EOTM / New Store Manager, Joey... observed & stood there slilent. Yes, Joey ended up resolving the issue; though, I've never been treated this poorly in the eight plus years I've lived in Olympia & been shopping here, BTW, it was Albertson's a few years back, which is Safeway. Sure, I could go across the street to Freddy's or Wal-Mart, they have far better parking & selection; never had a reason to change until this recent eye-opener... humiliation & lecture from Avery. This recent experience landed on me as shaming & being discriminated against. Hit hard by a loyal lifetime customer. Very upsetting & rather inappropriate during recent tough times. ?

I ordered a bouquet of balloons for a special occasion on thursday, went to pick them up today and they weren't even done. The person running the floral department had no experience at even doing them. That's was a first time ordering there and now the last didn't even receive a discount for them not being ready.

Always friendly with quality products at affordable prices. I had to order some chicken and the deli service staff didn't even cringe when I said I needed 50 pieces and said they would have it ready in 15 minutes. They have updated the looks inside the store. It is bright and fresh looking. The produce was on point. I was able to find golden beets and and several colors of cauliflower. They also had some great selections for quick meals in the butcher section.1/2/24 went in tonight. They still had a great selection of golden beets. :) one of their sales price didn't adjust when I was checking out. The person who helped me was kind gave me a price adjustment to the advertised price and had to pull the product out of the bottom of the packed bag :) and when they were done, repacked my bag of groceries! To describe this experience in 3 words would be ABOVE AND BEYOND!
