Beware! Salal credit union would send you deceiving statement with different due date to trick you into paying late. This was what they did to me, sending me statement with date later than my no interest due date. Naturally I went with the statement date instead of checking the contract, since I thought it would be the same. Now they refused to undo the interest that was levied on my account. Basically scammed me of my money.Do not do business with this company! Scam artist is what they are!

I reiterate my 1 star review. Salal responded to my review within a day or two (see below), with instructions on how they thought I could rectify the original issues I brought up in my original review below. Salal also sent me a letter with instructions. I followed the instructions, and their instructions did not solve the problem. Importantly, I also called them to have them try to figure out how to fix the issue. The customer service rep could not figure out how to correct the problem, put me on hold for a long time, and then the line disconnected. Bottom line, their website and especially their mortgage payment system are cumbersome and frustration inducing. I strongly suggest that you pick another bank for a mortgage, and save yourself the trouble.Probably the major way that most people end up interacting with their bank, is via the website. The Salal website seems to have been made in the year 2000, is rarely updated, and is very cumbersome and especially difficult and frustrating to navigate and find information. Because the website is cumbersome to use, doesn't provide much information or tools for your account, and it is difficult to navigate to find the information from your account, and it is the major way that I have interacted monthly with Salal for the last 3 years since getting and paying my Salal mortgage, the website and my experiences are the basis for my 1 star review.Specifically, I looked for a local credit union instead of a major bank for a mortgage, and I picked Salal (the rates were similar to BECU at the time). After being approved for a mortgage with Salal, the frustration started when I found out that Salal allows you to pay a mortgage only from a Salal savings or checking account, not an external account from different bank. And even though all of my Salal mortgage process and paperwork was completed online, Salal forces you to go in person to open a savings account!I had barely heard of Salal before the mortgage, so then I had to find and visit a branch in person to open a Salal savings account. Then after opening a new Salal savings account, I found out that I would have to make two transactions per month 1) fund my Salal savings account and 2) pay mortgage. Considering that the bank doesn't spend any money on their website, and the account information about transfers and balances sometimes takes days to update on the website, I have frustratingly slow experiences with this bank every single month because I need to wait until the funds transfer and are available before paying my mortgage, which means I must check for updated balances multiple days in a row. If the Salal savings account was a high yield savings account like some of my other external accounts, then it would be no problem to have money in my Salal savings, but the saving account offers a very low interest rate.Seriously, if I would have known about this frustratingly slow payment process due to an outdated website before applying for a mortgage, I would have picked a different local credit union for a mortgage; there are plenty of other local credit unions in the Puget Sound area.Lastly, my complaints to Salal about their website have fallen on deaf ears. They should use some of the money that they are getting from my mortgage to hire someone to create a better website!Overall, because I have frustrating monthly interactions with Salal's via their website to pay my mortgage, and the website is the major way that I have interacted with Salal for the last 3 years, I give it this bank a 1 star rating.

I was recommended to work with this bank for a loan on solar equipment that was installed July of last year. After discovering a few days ago that their ACH was sending two requests a month to withdraw payments from my checking account, I reached out to figure out what the issue was.Calling their 24/7 line is an all-around awful experience. The folks who answer are clearly just trying to align questions with a limited set of solutions, and if you happen to call with an issue that doesn't match one of their pre-canned solutions they'll try to force-feed you whichever one seems like the closest fit. I had a series of individuals tell me to mail in a form that wouldn't have helped my situation before I was finally able to get onto a callback list for one of their 'specialists.'The specialist was the only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one. She addressed my issue succinctly, and even though she wasn't empowered to solve the underlying problem caused by the double withdrawals she provided several workaround options that appeared to be the best she could do.Which leads me to the biggest pain point I have with Salal and why I was driven to write this review. It turned out that my problem was due to the fact that Salal had set up ACH payments on my behalf when I opened the loan with them, which are /not/ visible from the portal. So when I logged into the portal, I saw that there were no ACH payments scheduled and set up a new payment. This 'behind the scenes' payment would trigger one time a month, and the payment that I could see also triggered once a month.Again, this started in July. It took me until April to discover the issue since it was withdrawing directly from my checking account. The total difference amounts to about $900. When I asked the specialist about refunding this amount, she mentioned there was nothing she could do aside from workarounds that would only have amounted to $100-200 difference.Imagine if I had come up short by $900 in the same period! Oh boy, the late fees and credit score hits and collections calls! Somehow, I don't think 'sorry, I already closed my books for the month' would have been an acceptable excuse. Here's what it comes down to for me. Their systems weren't transparent. They messed up. It happens to all of us. But to not make it right? That's where I think a company deserves to lose business.

They make it easy to get the loan you need, but try to get a payoff statement.... there is a waiting list?!?! I mean how hard is it to email me the information you are verbally giving me over the phone? Well let me just say I will not be doing business with them in the future once my current obligations are fulfilled. I will also be informing the retailer whom suggested their service of how disappointed I am.

Their business practice is unfair and deceptive. Their "system" would not allow me to pay off my loan in one payment or in one day. Because they required two days to pay off the loan amount, they charged me a $20.00 interest fee. In addition, they charged me a $7.42 UCC fee to close the loan. None of this previously disclosed. Unfair and deceptive. They would rather lose a long term customer that reverse $27.42 in deceptive charges.

Will not recommend anyone to go with Salal Mortgage due to the experience I have had. Don't fall for their lower rates because it not worth it. Many similar deals offered by other banks and mortgage brokers. More than 3 months delay in completing loan applications, mortgage banker being very impatient, unprofessional behavior and communicating poorly when asked for more details and for guidance. Errors in the loan application file that has kept me awake at night. Anything that should not happen with mortgage applications occurred with me.

Worst Customer Service Ever!!! I had over $1,000 stolen from me due to incompetence of the fraud department @ Salal Credit Union. They ended up telling me it wasn't their problem and I needed to pay them! I told them I disagree with their findings and they then decided to close my account... Unprofessional and incompetent is the best way to define their staff members!

My parents have an auto loan with them. They sent them their insurance papers when requested and afterwards, they refused to acknowledge it and started the process of charging them for extra insurance, claiming that their current insurance had lapsed. They had all of their insurance info on file. Perhaps they could make an effort by opening their mail or at least contacting the insurance company instead of just mindlessly doing stuff. This is unacceptable and done out of pure laziness, lack of pride and of blindness to customer value.

Salal is the worst bank I've ever used. I've literally called them a dozen different time trying to get them to cancel a card of mine that was lost and every time they would give me some runaround anf never cancel the card or issue me a new one. Even after I was having money taken from my account by some unknown person they still told me they couldn't do anything about canceling my card and that I had to file a claim in order for them to simply cancel the card and send me a new one. Even after doing all that I still have no card and someone is using my card and putting me in a negative balance.. this credit union it literally the worst bank I've ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!
