VERY POORLY MANAGED. I can't understand why this Safeway is so incredibly understaffed. if you are going to LOCK all bathroom stuff, over the counter medicines and ice cream (ice cream? really?), then at least have enough staff to assist in the unlocking process. And what's the point of having so many check out lines if nobody works them? Prices are high and the entire experience is disappointing.
QFC or Trader Joe's nearby are much better options.

I really like this Safeway. There is tons of parking in the underground garage, it is close to public transport, the store is packed with a large variety of stock and the people who work here are really nice. Yes, there are locks on some things and there is a code needed for the bathroom, but this is Seattle and that is just part and parcel with living in the city. I would recommend this store to anyone in the U district.

Never any carts and too many things are locked up with not enough employees to unlock. Also no pharmacy.

I hate this store, everything I need is locked away for no reason and nobody ever comes by when you ring for service. waited 15 minutes the other day just for tide pods, and they only had the nasty smelling kind. such a strange place, clearly geared towards students even though the store isn’t student-friendly at all, layout is absolute garbage, prices are really high for a regular grocery chain, staff all have a horrible attitude, I feel like I’m being watched and followed all the time but can’t ever find someone to help me when I need it, and everything is locked up to prevent theft even though I’ve never seen anyone worth worrying about hanging around inside the store. I’ll happily go all the way out to Wallingford or Ballard to QFC to avoid this place.

What an AMAZING store. You, the customer, will have the unique experience of being an unpaid employee. Not a cashier in sight, but don’t worry because there is always loss prevention. I applaud management on their practical decisions! They really do their best to make sure that no one is going to steal the locked up ice cream and toilet paper. I always used to think that grocery stores made it too easy to purchase things, and I’m glad to see someone putting an end to that. Good job! On a serious note, I understand that management is far too dense to interpret my tone. I will make it simple: store bad :(

I *would* prefer to shop here as opposed to Amazon or Trader Joes, but considering the staff doesn't care about their customers (I attribute that to the corporate employer making working there abysmal), the store doesn't have shopping baskets (not carts), basic amenities like soap and toothpaste are locked in a cage (despite having security posted outside), and whatever isn't sold out is likely price gouging (I can find name-brand products and store-brand equivalents for about half what they charge at their competitors). I feel like a d*** criminal shopping there, and Amazon grocery stores that clearly lack any human soul are more friendly than this Safeway store. Given their lackluster service, prices, and capacities, I'll shop here only as a last resort.

Employees have to put up with a lot here. The front desk are super nice folks. So upbeat inspite of the difficult hrs and the challenge of an interesting eclectic customer scene including everything under the sun showing up. Lol

Most difficult place to buy ice cream. They have locks on all the freezers so you have to stand and wait for an employee. And then you can't grab what you want, you have to tell them which ones and they'll grab it for you. An employee apologized and told me this is mgmt's policy. The aisles are cramped and you pretty much always have to do the checkout and bagging yourself. Other than those things it's fine I guess. #Freetheicecream

It's a nice store, but locks on the toiletries and freezer cases are absolutely not what I'm looking for in a supermarket. I'll shop at a location that doesn't treat their customers like the enemy.

Please cook the potatoes in your potato salads more. Good flavor, but no one likes raw potato.
