This store doesn’t have any baskets and only a handful of mini carts for the entire store. They have signs that say no bags/ backpacks allowed in store which means you have to carry everything. I go out of my way to go to different grocery stores

Go into the morning.
In addition to everything else she is doing, the morning manager is everywhere including making sure customers don't get lost wandering around looking for something, e.g. milk that, if you don't see the "milk" sign on the back wall behind the vegetables right when you enter, could take a while.

I love this Safeway. The customer service is generally cheerful and helpful. Today I was in a rush and had a terrible experience in the self checkout. They desperately needed a second staff person because there were problems with the machines and no one to help. The human checkout line had only one checker and it was backed way up. I hope they fix these problems because except for today I’ve enjoyed shopping at the Safeway on John street for almost 2 years.

This might be one of the worst grocery stores in America. We like to call this bad boy the Unsafeway because of just how incredibly terrible this place is. Want to pop in for a quick item? No baskets and you are for sure not going to get any help from an associate. The last time I was in there this elderly woman tried to ask an associate for some directions to an item and he literally stood there and yelled over her, "I have more important things to do!"
I am truly bewildered by the staff at this store. On a separate trip here as I was checking out on the self check a woman and her family come behind me to try and do the same. The second the self check attendant sees them and I am walking away he basically dives in from of them and shuts down all the machines and yells at them to go to a different lane. This poor woman was alone with her three kids clearly just trying to get groceries for the week.
The layout of this store is by far one of the worst you will ever find as well. It is almost impossible to find items sometimes and as mentioned before the associates are not going to help you. Not to mention if you want to buy tampons, soap or anything that anyone might actually need to live you have to checkout with those items at a separate counter. Last month I waited 25 mins just to buy a stick of deodorant because there was one checker and a line wrapped around the walled off section.
I could deal with all this if the selection of groceries was at least adequate, but they aren't! I don't think I have ever seen this store with full shelves. Everything is constantly picked over and half the time the thing I came in for is completely gone. Not to mention they sold me 2 day expired meat.
What makes this place the worst of the worst though is truly just the stuff that goes on past 7pm. Going in here the other day to get a few things for dinner and a guy walks in behind me just straight up taking a huge rip of a cig. Continues to walk around the store smoking all over the produce. This isn't even surprising to me at this point as to get here I have to walk past the bus stop on 15th and E John that is covered in trash and people who are not in the best shape. I don't blame Safeway for the fact people are struggling but it does feel really unsafe walking past there at night. This wouldn't be a problem if they would just reopen the entrance on 15th so no one would have to walk down E John.
I guess its better than the QFC on broadway but thats not saying much.

Costumer service is the worst at this store, you can even die inside the store and they wouldn’t care

Went there to get a money order. The lady at the counter was super friendly and helpful. This was my first solo adventure with my new leg prosthetic and crutches. She was helpful in answering my questions and showed me where the motorized shopping cart was located for the next time I came in and wanted to do my own independent shopping and said if in the future I needed any help just ask the staff. This definitely put my mind at ease.

No public bathrooms? What a shame. Seattle Safeway standards are not customer friendly. Was told to go across the street, I guess I'll take my business there as well.

please bring shopping baskets back
If the liquor section is going to be walled off, then prevent people from checking out their entire cart in the liquor aisle. It slows everyone else down.

This Safeway store has the WORST customer service. Stay away. I was overcharged for some items through the scanner, and just wanted to pay the correct amount. Needed staff to help. Valerie is incredibly rude. Manager named Caroline was not much better. I'm trying to pay for my items, and it turned into a 15-minute ordeal. I get that they are low-paid workers, not very dedicated, and probably pretty miserable folks, but this is ridiculous. Avoid Safeway on East John Street.

You should fire your security guards if you are saying that people can't wear backpacks. I work 7 days a week and I take the bus and that's the only way I can shop for food. Your staff is incompetent. Homeless outside doing drugs. Bathrooms trashed. Maybe you should pay more.
