I have been looking for a tattoo artist/studio to help me craft a coverup design for my first tattoo. My style leans more realism so I was looking for someone with skill in details, and I fell in love with the work of Alex & Jacob from their Instagram accounts. My fiancé and I decided to check them out for our matching tattoo of our two dogs, and we couldn’t be happier with our experience.
We called and planned a design session to start, which helped calm my nerves with an art review over zoom before we came in and had our tattoos done simultaneously. Alex did an amazing job with my fiancé on his first tattoo & Jacob did a phenomenal job with my smaller version. I even added on an additional little tattoo because I was having such a great experience.
We left the seats incredibly pleased and already have our next tattoo sessions planned ?? After two iffy tattoo experiences at other places, Dzul Ink Lounge provided everything I was hoping for - design help for a custom look, modern technology to make the final product stunning & excellent skill by the tattoo artists.
Highly recommend checking these guys out for your next ink session!

Staff was friendly and place was nice. Artist was pretty good but also slow. Rates are far too high, they will give you a range and you should just plan for paying at the top of that range. You can find many better artists for cheaper.
EDIT: I feel like I should be more clear about my experience here and why I'm giving two stars.
The place is nice. It is a premium experience. The staff is friendly and the artists and designers are clearly skilled. I agreed to the price and can't argue with what I paid. The artists was slow, but the tattoo itself is very good.
So why only two stars? I'm not complaining about the price just to be salty. This review is for anyone looking for tattoo artists, Dzul is not worth the price. I figured that a premium tattoo would cost a premium price, so I agreed not knowing because it was my first tattoo. I should have done more research, and after having worked with other artists I have found that this kind of premium experience is not worth the price Dzul charges anywhere on earth. Seattle has many talented artists, who are great people and provide amazing experiences. I would say I have preferred my experiences at other places, but this is a personal preference. However, they charge not even close to the price Dzul charges. I'm talking multiple grand difference in price, for the same skill level.
So for anyone looking at this, please do more research on local artists. They are great, still provide premium experiences and deserve your support. I paid $800 for a custom tattoo from with more ink versus the over $3000 I paid for my tattoo from Dzul. Whenever I tell literally anyone, from regular people to experienced artists, they are flabbergasted at what I paid, and it's frankly embarrassing that I agreed to the price thinking that I needed to pay that much for quality. You can get that same quality at other places in and around Seattle without getting ripped off. Please support other artists and don't go to Dzul, they deserve your support more.

I visited Dzul for a consultation a couple of months ago and met with Athena. She explained that they handle things a bit differently than other tattoo shops. Rather than speaking directly with the tattoo artist, she gathered the details of what I wanted done and then she would relay it to the artist who was just sitting in the other room. I've worked with 3 tattoo artists at other shops previously and have large tattoos, so I'm not ignorant with understanding how long tattoos can take to complete. The exception with this was that they were going to be coverups, so I expected that the cost/time would likely take longer than normal. I paid a $550 deposit (including tax) and got an appointment set for a month later. The red flag came up when I asked for a price quote for a non-coverup flower on my shoulder. Initially, I thought I heard $800, which still seemed high.. but when I received the email, they quoted $1800-$2200. Alex had tried to justify this estimate by saying it was more of a "realistic tattoo".... I ended up going to a different tattoo artist with over 20 years of experience that completed this tattoo in 1.5 hours and I paid $385 after tax. So after the red flag and reading their Yelp reviews, I began regretting paying a deposit for the coverup work. I emailed the shop asking for additional clarification on pricing and how it was determined at the "artist's discretion". They never mentioned an hourly rate, and they don't have this information listed on their website. So they say that the artist doesn't have an hourly rate, and each piece is priced based on the complexities of the design. So in the end, how will it be determined whether it's the low end or high end of the price range?? It'll just be a surprise for the customer based on how hard the artist worked? They claim that they're transparent by providing you a price range estimate, but you're left in the dark regarding how it's calculated. If you want to charge $500/hr, then just be honest about that! They wouldn't even tell me how many hours they estimated each tattoo would likely take to complete. They know that customer's would do the calculation and wise up to how much they're overpaying. Not providing a price breakdown just seems deceptive.. especially when the tattoo is completed in a few short hours like other reviews mention. It's like a classic bait & switch.. only you end up being the sucker in the end when it comes time to pay. I thought back to my conversation with Athena about the coverup where she mentioned that we would have to whiten out the middle portion of my tattoo first, which could take several sessions and cost $500 each time. So if this guy is charging $500/hour, then a 4 hour tattoo would cost $2,000. Their pricing model is seriously shady.. and the costs are probably double what other artists charge because they have to pay these extra employees to handle communication and designs. So aside from pricing, I had a tattoo art review appointment two weeks after my initial consultation. I liked that they planned an art review instead of just springing the design on you the day of your tattoo. However, when I showed up, the tattoo artist told me that the "designer" was still working on finishing my design!! He then dipped out for a 20 minute break and a woman showed me the completed design. What?? HE wasn't designing it?? I knew that the front desk employees were handling the initial consultation details, but I had no idea some person other than the artist would be designing it when I paid my deposit. I was incredibly disappointed with the mediocre design as it wasn't anything like what I had communicated. It looked like they just threw it together on the computer in 20 minutes. Not only that, but they hadn't even started the second design. Previously, they kept asking questions about my reference photos such as "what kind of flower is that? What kind of bird is that?" It's like they just find the image

This scam shop quoted me 4.5k for a calf sleeve in writing (still have it), then demanded 3.5k after the first session, saying it would be 12k total to complete! Out of respect, I paid the 3.5k, applied my deposit and we went our separate ways. Today, they posted an Instagram reel insinuating a customer was broke after paying for their work. "How I look at my customer after paying for 2k worth of work" with a stalling truck audio. They do not care about their customers, and the reel was clear in its implications. This shop is a scam, no calf tattoo is 12k. Alex routinely took two hour lunches, and was never on time for appointments. Total losers. By their estimates, they demand $700 an hour. Go to a real shop, this is not the place for you. I worked with this shop for multiple pieces, and they took advantage of me one too many times.

This was not my first time getting tattooed here. The staff are very welcoming and kind. Alex really turned my idea into real life artwork. He was also very patient and over all - just chill. The atmosphere is great ; they have a TV you can watch stuff on if you want! I definitely would recommend checking them out if you’re thinking of getting a tattoo.

There is a reason that there are no other shops that operate this way... First off you never get to meet the "artist" during the planning stage. You are forced to meet with a "designer" who comes up with the initial plan for your work. The designer then consults with one of the artists (who knows which one since I was told I do NOT get to be part of the discussion). Here's where the scam comes in: based on the brief chat the designer had with the artist (again, you will NOT be allowed to be a part of that) the designer will quote you a price and a required deposit. My quote was $1500-$1800 (which is ridiculous, really) and I paid the required $500 deposit. A week later when I saw the final "design" it was (a) not interesting and (b) nearly double the original price. I was told it jumped after the "artist" saw what the actual end design was going to be. I asked how many hours the artist planned for the actual inking and I got a whooooooole run-around about how the fee isn't for the chair time but for design time, ink, materials, et cet. Looking at the design there is no way it should have taken more than three or four hours. For three grand?! I already have a sleeve and full back piece so I'm far from ignorant about pricing. More than anything this seemed like a case of an "artist" not wanting to do the work so they just priced it out of budget. Fine. But- of course there is NO deposit return. I was still not allowed to speak to the "artist" and was told that I wouldn't until the actual work began. So, there ya go. I was not about to let an artist I was denied access to do work on me of a design I was not excited about for double the original quoted fee. Seriously- who operates a business like this? Someone who is out to scam folks out of their deposit money- that's who. In the end I paid $500 for a non-tattoo "artist" to design an unoriginal and uninspired design that was immediately priced out of reality with ZERO opportunity to discuss or have any refund. Good on ya Dzul staff- ya got me good!

I was referred to Dzul Ink by a friend.
I got my first tattoo here and everyone was so amazing, friendly and welcoming!!!
The session went by so fast of how comfortable I felt.
The place is incredibly clean , it feels welcoming and everyone takes precautions to be as clean as possible.
Jacob did my first tattoo he was really incredibly patient and detailed. I'm so glad I came here for my first tattoo it was a great decision. During the tattoo process the staff went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and at ease the entire time. Jacob was so good he would always ask me how I was doing and helping me to get distracted of the pain since it was my first time. When the final session was done, I was speechless with the results. I loved it!! I was not disappointed! I’m glad I went to Dzul !!!

Wife and I were visiting Seattle. Asked if they do walk-ins. Looked through their "flashes," and asked for 3-4 inch tattoo with simple line work and mild shading. Having over 20 tats, I'm thinking this cant take too long to do and it cant be too wild or detailed cuz again....walk in. I'm also well aware of paying an artist for their hard work. After asking the front desk for an estimate, I was blown away when they told me $900 for just lines and $1500 w/ shading. Now don't get me wrong, I get the artist has to eat, but $900-$1500 for a walk-in is crazy. Off a walk-in???!
