My wife and I walked past this store close to the breweries in Ballard off 14th Ave. We dropped in and the owners were there and also are the artist that make all of these incredible hat creations. We spent awhile chatting about the Seattle hat scene and ultimately my wife picked out a fedora that Carol Campbell created. We chatted more and it was a great experience as we heard about their trade.If you're into hats and want a custom made hat for a special event or day to day, this is your place.

Very nice group of hat makers. They welcomed me and showed me what they do. Not a shop but a studio for artistic hat makers. I never knew the work that goes into this craft.

Anyone who has had a hard time finding the perfect hat due to their design tastes, cranium size, or want of a specific material...NEEDS to come here!I instantly fell in love with the studio as soon as I walked in, and Wayne is so sincere and accomplished, I knew I'd found the right place and person, and all other places were instantly forgotten. Anyone I can, genuinely, laugh with while discussing what I need and couldn't find, and made time to really listen and figure out what I was looking for, now has me as a permanent client.Once I had my last fitting, and selected the final touches for my hat, I felt so grateful and exalted. When he called to say that I could pick it up, I headed there ASAP. Seeing the gorgeous box it was in, and then the hat itself, I couldn't hold back the tears. My husband laughed, Wayne and his colleagues smiled, and then I sent photos to all of my friends and family of my new birthday present!Their work, excellence, personalities, business acumen, large studio filled with past and current designs, a block in my size...just, make them the top millinery in the area. I've never been so happy of something's existence. Other places were so self-proclaimed, but Ballard Millinery Studio's work speaks for themselves, and have no need to put on heirs, whatsoever. They are best. I can't wait to bring my mother-in-law here when she visits us!Thank you so much, and I will be back soon!

I had no idea I was walking into a hat lover's dream. The studio is open on weekends before Christmas, starting with the post-Thanksgiving "open studio" weekend. The five milliners do exquisite work (and were very helpful!), with hats in all colors, shapes, and styles. I tried on styles and colors I hadn't considered for myself before, as well as classic favorites, and came away pondering which I should bring home. Photos were encouraged as reminders while I ponder as well as for a custom creation should a favorite be sold. These hats are works of art, with most also very functional for daily wear (a few perhaps less so, although how much fun would that be?!). If you love hats, this is your nirvana.

This is a beautiful and amazing place, I know they do workshops which are likely fantastic and they are definitely chock full of fabulous hats, but this review is for Wayne who beautifully restored my Stetson that was a little worse for the wear! Definitely recommend this spot!
