Every town needs a Mail Plus! The owner and employees are amazing problem solvers, they know shipping/packaging inside and out and go out of their way to help get the best price and method... even making a smaller box out of a bigger box with a magical tool in less than 15 seconds to reduce my shipping price by 60%. They are engaging and hilarious and I always leave with a smile on my face. We are a quirky town (thankfully ;-) and I've seen Mail Plus serve some pretty quirky packing and shipping requests when I've been there; and they do it thoughtfully, efficiently, and with patience and a sense of humor. I love it when I see other customers reciprocate that with the Mail Plus crew. It makes it a great personal experience for everyone... like what you'd expect in a friendly small town.

My wife had a toaster oven/Air Fryer shipped from this location to our home in Colorado. When the item arrived it had clearly had something heavy placed on top of it during shipping as the back was caved in and smashed and the shipping box had damage to one corner. Even though I was not there, my wife, who is very detail oriented, notified me that this package would be coming. When it arrived damaged, we were relieved that she had insured it for $400. When we put in a claim however, we were notified that it had no insurance on it at all, according to FedEx. Knowing my wife and how meticulous she is with details, I know this is B.S. On top of that, her mother was present with her when she shipped this package and backed up my wife's claim that she asked for $400 worth of insurance not once or twice, but three times! Additionally, my wife asked Mail Plus to call her when the packaged was shipped. When that called didn't come later the next day, my wife called them to make sure the item was shipped. They informed here that since the item was insured for a high dollar value they were waiting for the owner to do the packaging. Now they are claiming my wife didn't have the item insured.
Now, let's do some math. My wife was charged $143.84 to ship this item. Mail Plus would have us believe that this included NO insurance. And yet, when we go to FedEx and “mock” ship this same item from Port Townsend to Denver, Colorado, the charge comes out to $118.76 with NO insurance. When we add $400 worth of insurance, the bill increases to $124.36. We have screen shots and receipts to show and prove all these facts. Granted things might have changed slightly in terms of the dollar amount given the month or so that has passed since the date we shipped the item to now (June 17, 2024) but not by enough to explain these discrepancies.
Normally, I don't like getting involved in things like this but when your actions – I'm looking at you Mail Plus – causes my wife to cry... The way she was treated by these people is unbelievable!
We have also reached out to FedEx to inform them of what has happened.
My suggestion to you if you find yourself in Port Townsend and need to ship something, drive to a neighboring town to ship it and don't leave anything of value in the care of these people. And if you don't own a car and don't have the means to drive out of town, then hike to the nearest town as any alternative is better than shipping with Mail Plus.

Much better than the USPS! I originally opened a PO Box at the post office, but quickly realized it wasn’t going to work mainly because their hours didn’t mesh with my schedule. I opened one here and 5 months later, am very glad I did! Not only are their hours more “user friendly” than the USPS, the staff is always friendly, helpful and definitely hard workers! They deserve a raise!!

While I understand that we're still in the middle of a pandemic, everytime I go to Mail Plus, regardless of how many employees are working behind the counter, the line is long, and the wait time is almost always 15 minutes, minimum. But that's not why I'm giving such a low rating: there's an air of "Get it together, hurry up, and get the Hell out" vibe, there. When I politely asked a simple question about purchasing some envelopes during my transaction, I was met with an attitude that I should have known the answer to my question, and basically I just wanted to get out of there. I know they work hard in there; but last time I checked, this is still a hospitality industry....
