I had to move my mother into assisted living and had a short period of time to get it done. We visited Sequoia and were immediately welcomed, luckily an apartment was available and we were able to secure it. The staff is amazing and so helpful. The caregivers are amazing and really interact with the residents. My mom was a little scared at first but after only two weeks of residency there she is joyful. She feels safe and knows that she is able to get assistance with anything she might need. This has been a huge relief for me and allowed me to be able to not worry about my mom. The food is amazing, they provide laundry services and have a pharmacy which makes medical care so easy. I highly recommend Sequoia.

I worked here last year and quit after just a few weeks. A few staff are decent, but the fat Karen bosses just want money and don't care for the patients. There is a blind man who they won't take food and help feed. They throw his tray and styrofoam container on his table and walk out. I used to lead him to the spot and make sure he knew where each food was placed in position on the table. Took maybe 2 minutes and was scolded each time and was told he "didn't need extra care" even though he was crying his eyes out because he thought no one cared and wasn't being helped. Another lady on the 2nd floor is consistently ignored. She doesn't require much care so they ignore her calls because she likes to talk because she's lonely. Another patient is a 2 time breast cancer survivor and I would give her blood circulation massages after I would shower her. I was written up because my showers took more than 10 minutes. But I wasn't going to risk my patient having a future edema. Another incident, a coworker, young girl who's name started with B, wasn't wearing PPE and since it was a state requirement we had to buy law. She would not wear PPE in rooms and not change gloves each room. I reported her to the fat Karen bosses and they told me that we "are a family and don't tattle on one another" ? uhhhhhhh what happened to morals? Someone wasn't following rules that could have affected patients health and their reputation yet I was scolded. They put on a good show to make you think this is a wonderful facility but the patients are treated like garbage.

Toured the Sequoia on Friday and was blown away by how ambient is the feel of the place. Spacious, very calm, with lots of sunlight, outdoor patios and balconies. Sequoia's renovated interior looks elegant and tasteful to the last detail. You feel as if you are at the retreat.Impressive choice of things to do dazzled me with a cooking master class! Yes, I am a foodie, and this along would be a deciding factor for me. What's more engaging then learning from a head chef with over 30 years of restaurant experience! it is like being on the Food channel in person! Wow!the staff is so collaborative and helpful, yes, Sequoia is a place to be!

Friendly, compassionate staff! Excellent resident to caregiver ratio. Newly remodeled, lots of activities 7 days a week and an AMAZING chef!! This is a well- established community close to Providence St. Peter's hospital.

I was a sit in community outreach director for 2 months while The Sequoia was interviewing prospects for the position. My experience was better than I could have ever expected. The support and leadership of the management team is fantastic. When you have good leadership you have happy employees and when the employees are happy the residents daily experience greatly improves. The executive director Carolyn is the most dedicated person in that building. As an employee when your leader is that dedicated it flows through the staff. She genuinely cares about every resident and employee in that community. If you are considering assisted living for your loved one make sure you tour The Sequoia, it will impress you. It wins awards for a reason.

Let me preface this by saying that my dad got kicked out of this facility after only two days. I don't fault them for kicking him out.A few things went wrong prior to that moment, which I do fault them for, particularly because he had the apartment a total of a week, which ended up costing him over $5,000!First, their intake isn't very thorough. I thought they would review medical records more closely to see if they can adequately take care of the person moving into the facility. They don't. They do a short phone interview, which I listened to, and that was it.If you have a family member who has behavioral issues, I would not move your loved one into this facility. The biggest issue I have is communication between staff members. They don't communicate well. Part of the issue we ran into was that my dad's doctor's office sent revised orders for insulin, but they claim not to have received it. I confirmed with the doctor it was sent. The insulin orders is what ultimately caused behavioral issues by my dad and ended up getting him kicked out. Had they actually received the orders and communicated with staff properly, this specific issue wouldn't have led to a bad outcome. There was another issue moving in where they claimed to not have received paperwork from some other party (I forget where), but they had. They were quite rude about not receiving it when they had.Long story short, my dad spent two nights there, it cost $5,000 because of the move in fee and all the other expenses, and then he was kicked out. I'm not optimistic it was going to be a long-term solution, but because of their inability to do a thorough assessment upfront and poor communication, my dad's back at home failing. On the good side of stuff, the staff seemed nice and the facility seemed clean and an okay place to live in non-COVID times.

My Mom came to Sequoia the last day of November 2021All of the staff members were aware that Mom had dementia. We were assured they had many residents with dementia and they could give appropriate care. That is not what happened. We asked for the “care costs” from Pam director of wellness and were given a quote of appropriate $350 per month.Several months later those care cost went up 420%!!!However, on May 3rd 2022 and I quote; Pam wrote “I am sorry you feel that my moms name has declined since moving into our community. In our observation she has not had major decline in relation to how she was and her needs for support from when she moved in and got settled.”Well then why the huge increase in care cost? Just to make more $$$Following is a the short list of concerns: (there is a longer list)*Medication: twice my mother was given her full month supply of medication, she called me to ask where her pill boxes were. We were paying them to manage her medication.*Food: on the day of my visit she was served, in a styrofoam container in her room, a chili dog with tater tot’s and re-boiled frozen vegetables.Mom called because she was so hungry, apparently they forgot to reminder her it was dinner time. She had a candy bar for dinner.During a visit from family the waitstaff mentioned that mom had barely eaten anything in 2 weeks2 days later she was at urgent care. 7 days later she died.*Housekeeping: her bed had only a bottom sheet, mattress pad was in closet, top sheet is still missing. Her bathroom smelled strongly of urine, it was the bath mat that clearly has not been washed, ever. Her laundry was to be done on Sundays. She left on Monday evening and there was more than one week of clothes in the hamper, this was a continuous issue.*Security: 6pm I walked in the front door and there was literally nobody around. The lobby lights were off. I never saw a staff member, but I walked through the whole building. My mother left at 6pm to go to urgent care, nobody noticed she was gone until much later. My Mother DIED exactly 2 weeks AFTER Pam The director of wellness wrote that she had seen no decline. One of those weeks she was in the hospital. When admitted she was anemic, had a severe UTI and pneumonia. She died May 17, 2022

My parents moved in shortly before the pandemic shut-down. It's been a terrible year for residents being locked in an eating in rooms and my dad died mid-year leaving my mom alone. I've had a lot of conversations with many staff at Sequoia. They have all always been responsive. Sometimes we have to come up with creative solutions and they always work with us on this. We've had really positive experiences with the director of wellness (Karie), resident care coordinator (Pam) to help us plan and adjust and readjust according to my mom's needs. Mostly, they are caring, take time to talk with me, and express care for the residents. The director (Carolyn) has also made time for us when we've needed it. Terrilynn, the activities director is fantastic. She is kind, enthusiastic, empathic. She is thoughtful and responsive and insanely patient. She offers something for everyone. My dad liked the morning physical exercises and interactive "table talk" events. My mom likes Bingo of which there is plenty to go around. Lastly, the everyday staff who are in and out of the rooms daily are great. It's not easy work. They are kind to my mom and eternally patient when she hits the "call" button but then forgets why. Having a call button, I should add, is a godsend. My only real complaint is pandemic-related and I suspect more about the owners than the staff. It has been WAY too long to isolate residents, making them eat all meals alone in their rooms for over a year, and not allowing family to come inside (now one person for one hr). While I appreciate the need to keep everyone safe, they need and deserve more than that. Their ability to see family and connect, to experience touch and conversation and love is critical. If I want to take my mom out to a private residence for a day in which 100% of us are fully vaccinated, she is required to be quarantined for another 2 weeks, something she will experience as punishment - to what end? Nearly all the residents and staff are vaccinated as will be her family. This is better protection than we can expect to have anywhere in the U.S., ever. So I sadly don't see a way out of that very strict and isolating policy. Importantly, this is a complaint regarding the company's policies rather than the staff who work daily. The directors and other staff are clearly caring and dedicated.

The Sequoia was the perfect situation for my parents when it was necessary for them too move to assisted living, well into their 80s. They received attentive care, yet privacy and decision-making autonomy. Really good food with delightful table mates. The common areas at the facility were always very clean, tidy, and fresh smelling. Our parents were both accomplished gardeners and were encouraged to use the greenhouse as much as they wanted, and they did! They grew flowers and vegetables in the gardens and pots throughout the grounds, especially the courtyard. Mother, Jessie, especially enjoyed the bus rides to see the autumn colors. Medical support brought us all relief, as we knew their needs were being met. The staff was completely outstanding, and I can’t praise them enough! In the final days for each of our parents, the nursing staff was tender, thorough, quietly competent in every effort. And they showed tremendous concern for us family members who were there as my parents each passed. It was an extraordinary, peaceful, even joyful time to have our parents receive such great care at the end of their very long lives. Beth Somerton Young

I feel very fortunate to work for such a supportive and safety conscious company. To say this has been a challenging year for residents, families, and staff would be an understatement. I give five stars to my management and ownership for making sure we have the information, policies, and practical tools we need to keep our residents safe and well cared for during this pandemic.

The food sucks. Some of the staff is ok. They let the residents go untreated for months with infections. The only nice thing i can say, it is a pretty place.

You can tell right away clients come first here. The moment I walked in the director was helpful & as I sat and wanted I saw care workers checking in with residents in a friendly way routinely.
