I had only been in the area out of happenstance when my boots' heels became shot and left me with a bad back. I had noticed this business years ago and was curious about it, but since I am in Mount Vernon so infrequently I had never had any work done here until now. I didn't even realize the boots' heels were that bad until he pointed out the issue. They were repaired that day for a reasonable price. However, my boots are blue and were partially polished black. Guess he didn't notice the fact that they are blue or he didn't have that color, not sure; either way they will quickly become scuffed and I can polish them blue again. For now they can have a sort of cool look. Overall happy with the work. It's upsetting that it will cost so much though to have the soles or even a welt redone, regardless of where I take them; because by that point one might as well just buy new boots for the same or similar money which sort of defeats the purpose of cobblers like this remaining in business.

Had a pair of loggers that needed some serious surgery. Got them back to me super quick at a very reasonable price.

Yep, quite competent and prompt. And, also, he does not accept Credit cards.

We've had good shoe repair service here twice now. The prices are extremely reasonable, the repairs are prompt, and the owners are friendly and kind. My husband is very happy with his reheeled boots, and my new shoes fit much better now that they've been stretched to fit over my high instep. The reason I didn't award a fifth star is that I'm not as happy with the repair on a pair of summer sandals. The glue (I think) used is dark and shows up prominently on the exposed edge of the light-colored sole. The sandals were inexpensive to start with, so I might not have bothered to repair them but for the fact that I have a hard time finding sandals that fit well and support my high arches, and I'm currently down to these for casual summer footwear that isn't sneakers or flip-flops, so I'm a bit disappointed that they don't look as nice anymore. The hunt for cute sandals begins anew, but at least I have solid sandals to wear while I'm looking, thanks to A-1 Shoe Repair.

He's so friendly and the only place I go to to get a lift for my shoes. Never had any issues with him been going since I was in 1st grade.

I need to have my shoe built up, lost an inch in a motorcycle wreck. Ove the last 40 years I have had work done by at least 10 different cobblers. Some were licensed PROSTHETISTS. No one has ever done a better job than A1. When I buy tennis shoes I'll typically get 5 pair at a time. I'm guessing over the years he has done 30 pair. I just bought 2 pair of danner boots @ $380 a pair. I know they will be well taken care of.

I brought in a pair of work boots that still had plenty of life in the leather, but needed new soles. Turn around was fast and the price was very reasonable. The owner was really friendly and did an amazing job on my boots. I was very happy with the finished product.

Great service! Alterations have always been just right, most recently had my bridesmaid dress hemmed and the length is perfect, just what i had asked for. Brought my favorite boots in too, he replaced my broken zipper, fixed the heel and repolished my favorite boots - they look just like new!!

I took in a new pair of expensive leather sandals and an expensive brown leather bag that just needed to be professionally worked over to make the leather look healthy again because it was sort of dry. I asked the guy if he could make the sandals the same color as my purse and he said he could. We talked about the color being the same brown color. When I picked them up I was aghast, and not a little bit angry, at what he had done to both pieces!!! It looked like he had spray painted both a sort of brown-orange color and they were hideous. He had RUINED BOTH my new sandals AND my purse! The spray paint had dripped down the side of my purse and the bottom of the sandals had paint on them. It looked like a little kid had done the job. I will NEVER go to this place again and want to warn off any other people from going there. I heard there is a shoe repair place in downtown Mt. Vernon so will look for that next time. I wouldn't even let this guy put a new hole in a leather belt, he's that bad. And just like the reviewer below said, he did not offer any apology when he saw how unhappy I was with his work. He just stood there like he didn't understand English. I should have told him to keep the purse and the sandals and not paid him. Very stupidly, I did pay him $63. I am glad I can at least leave this review so others will be forewarned! Another lady wrote of her horror experience on Yelp so check hers out there, too.
