MEDINA GROCERY IN LIMBO I have lived in this area since the mid-60s. I have driven by this place from time to time.. But since I do not live west of downtown Bellevue, I have never been in here before, until today, June 9, 2022. This is a quaint little store that takes you back to a simpler time. The original building from 1908 was torn down in 2005, but a replica was built and completed in time for it's Centennial in 2008, when the store was reopened. But the present owners, who have run the store for 11 years, are in the process of selling it. And they do not know what the new owner intends to do with it. THIS AIN'T NO SAFEWAY. THIS IS NOSTALGIA! Mind you, this is not a Safeway, a QFC, or some other large modern day chain grocery store. Nor is it even a 7-Eleven, or any other modern day chain convenience store. Instead, it's an original "mom and pop" corner grocery from back in the day! T'is a dying breed. Don't expect maximum selection or the cheapest prices. Today I bought two small bags of potato chips and two packages of batteries for $35.08. A bit pricey, true, but hey, this is Medina Washington (know what I mean Vern?) At least they take Apple Pay. I appreciate not having to take my credit card or cash out of my wallet. CUD MEDINA BECOME A MECCA? MAY RAMP UP REVENUE BUT MAY ALSO QUASH THE QUAINT AND THE QUIET? If one took a black-and-white photo of the replicated store today, with no cars and no people in it, one could, with a cursory glance, think it was a photo of the original store from when it was new! Only the sidewalk ramps in the corner would readily give it away. It is so quaint in this quiet neighborhood, that there is still plenty of parking in front of the store, on both sides of the corner of NE 8th St. and Evergreen Way. I believe this is the original parking arrangement. No large suburban parking lot is necessary. If it isn't already, perhaps the next owner ought to put this place on a list of tourist attractions. That might drum up more business during the tourist season, but it might also quash the quaint and quiet image of Medina. Imagine a double-decker "Amazon Tours" bus as the driver calls out "ladies and gentlemen, we have just reached the West end of NE 8th St. as we now turn northbound on Evergreen Way. If you look to your right on the corner, you'll see the Medina Grocery. The original 1908 building was replaced by this exact replicate in time for the store's centennial in 2008. Just after that, the Medina US post office." Frankly my dear, I think the local residents can afford the higher prices. PERHAPS IT'S ALREADY ON THE MECCA MAP In fact, right now, they are selling two window displayed pictures of the store. A smaller knitted picture for $100, and a larger painting for $200. I believe the owner said that the larger one was an original painting (not a print). The knitted picture depicts the store in its present colors. Be sure to see my photos!

Super nice family that runs this great little neighborhood market and grocery in Bellevue Wa. Easily the best Kimchi fermented food in Bellevue. Homemade by the wife of this Korean husband wife run business. Delicious and has a bite - probably better with far more proobiotocs than anything you can buy elsewhere because it’s not processed. Fresh, homespun Kimchi. Thank you Medina Store ie “the Green Store”

Great little store with nic nacs, candy, good wine and beer, and great sandwiches hand made and other deli selections. They also have great home made Kimchi that will knock you out. Home made, totally authentic made directly from the wife - they are both from Korea - Seoul. A great little find.

They (illegally) refused service to me because of my service dog. This is against ADA (federal) laws. If you have a service dog don’t go here.

Step back in time to experience a country store just a short distance yet separated from the surrounding metropolis. The store is small, but it has everything. The people who work there are friendly and there to help.

Who doesn't love a homemade sandwich nothing fancy, just one of does homemade sandwiches that hit the spot! If that's you, I recommend you check this place out. I think it's family owned. So when you walk in there they got a menu you can order from, or you can grab a slip of paper and build your own sandwich, which what I did! The first time I ordered the tuna it was delicious! Was very impressed, nothing fancy but that at home taste was amazing. It's also a convenient store, so they got a variety of soft drinks, wines, and they also make coffee. If your ever in the area check them out!

They still require masks as of The end of June 2021. A bit behind on the times and slow on following CDC guidelines, especially for a 90% empty store. They also had no ice on a weekend for any iced drinks (iced coffee, Italian sodas...) which sucks for them since they could easily have made $$$ during this heat wave. Not friendly.

It's a very nice and friendly staffed store close to the old ferry dock next to the town hall/ police station. Good for a quick stop when doing walks or bike rides I think.

I regret not stopping here regularly pre COVID, I don't live in Medina but my children have gone to school nearby and would walk by it daily after dropping off the children and walking the dog in Medina park. My two kids are both high risk for COVID so haven't been inside a store since the pandemic started. I saw a for sale sign in the window and recent review mentioning to support the neighborhood market. I called and asked if I could purchase something outside the store and the owner was kind to oblige. The owner sweetly met me outside with three cookies and I paid for it with cash. He was really friendly and the cookies were among the best we've all had. A gentleman was exiting while we were standing there with a yummy sandwich lunch. Definitely will try to support them by visiting once a week.

If you are looking to support a family business, this is it. The owner is a genuinely kind man and needs our continued support through such a troubling time for the retail/restaurant industry.
