I'm thrilled to be working with this Humane Society in search of a new dog. The communication via email and phone has been exceptional—Kate and Heidi went the extra mile to ensure I found the perfect dog. It's truly refreshing to see a Humane Society prioritize the right fit for the owner AND dog rather than just getting them adopted. I highly recommend reaching out to them for any future animal consideration.

Required vaccination records for my partners 16 year old dog on hospice care. Reached out to his old vet and was advised that the do not keep records over 3 years, new vet states @ his age they do not want to give vaccinations. He has 1 vaccinated cat and a kitten that is awaiting his appointment, but has been de-wormed and checked out. Keep in mind, none of these animals are mine. I wish they were upfront about their requirements and willing to work with my situation because I take very good care of my animals. My adventure buddy just passed at 17 years old. Having a 16 year old and 17 year old lifespan of a dog should be proof enough in my opinion. Every vet has been amazed with how long they lived and said we did a great job. I have references from trainers, vets, and breeders but I don't check that corperate box!

This is a great place and the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because no one can take Dianna's place she was amazing. With that said keep up the awesome work and dedication those furries need

Some of the staff there were very kind and helpful. You could tell they really cared about their animals. It's unfortunate that some of them are very rude, dismissive, and treated us like we were a complete nuisance. The cat we adopted was spraying in our apartment, I kept the shelter staff very well informed of the situation, took the cat to the vet, and after the vet verified that it was spray and that the only measures I could take weren't a guaranteed fix, I let the shelter know in detail the problems that would pose to our family, and that we would still love to adopt maybe a female cat from them to avoid that issue. The lady on the phone at that time was also very kind like the ladies that were there for the initial adoption. She had recommended a cat she thought would be a great fit for the meet and greet, and I told her the return would be fine without a refund and that we were more than willing to pay the second adoption fee as well for the new cat when we scheduled the meet and greet. When I got there though, there were women that I hadn't met yet and two were very rude to us right from the start. They tried to tell me that my issue was with cat hair and urine (it was not.) And when I tried explaining to them what the issue was, they were very dismissive and gaslighting. I offered the vets advice for minimizing spraying and concern of a light infection from his recent neuter, and they couldn't have cared less. One of them was even rude to two separate callers that were concerned about a stray cat while we were there. The whole time they were standoffish, snarky, and spoke to me as if I am a small child being reprimanded. (I do have to clarify, one of the three women was actually very polite the whole time. She was on the computer, and maintained a professional and kind demeanor.) When offered a refund after being told I could no longer adopt through them, I accepted and one of them scoffed like I was out of line, even though initially I didn't want a refund and was willing to pay even more for a second cat. I only accepted the refund because of how I was treated while I was there after having the cat for only a few days. Overall, horrible experience. To all of the genuinely kind staff there, I appreciate you, and you are doing a great job. But the two women in specific that I dealt with today were so rude that they kind of outweighed all the good being done there. I'm really glad the animals there are so well cared for, I'm just appalled by the kind of treatment we received.

Hated it because they wouldn't let me adopt a dog because I have autism and because I had a child too. Pretty disgusting when they don't allow the disabled or children have a dog. Be better off buying from a puppymill at that point if you are in my situation where everyone discriminates you for being different. Regardless of what they say there is discrimination hidden between the cracks. People might say that they don't discriminate but it is there in the cracks and I deserved better than that. I think it's up to a dog to decide who it's person is, but I also think the rules need to be changed there.

It's nice there a no-kill shelter. But they need more funds for the up keep and more staff.

Ridiculous! I can't look at dogs or cats until I fill out an application...not even online...one for each type of pet I'm interested in. Appointment Only means I can't pop in when time allows or as new pets arrive. I will go somewhere else that is normal and they will lose a prospective buyer.Thank you for your kind response. I understand caring for your volunteers, I just wish it was easier to browse pets...what about showing them online like they do in Astoria so we can at least see if there is a compatible pet?
