Penrose Point State Park is a lovely park next to a Puget Sound inlet, great for camping or a day trip. The campground is very well maintained with protected sites and facilities that include clean, flushable toilets and available showers. The park offers easy hikes, well-kept walking trails, and spectacular kayaking with stunning views of Mt. Rainier. Visitors can spend the day on the beach beach combing, floating, and watching the tides transform the shoreline. There is a sheltered, shallow swimming area, a dock, and a boating area to explore. Wildlife sightings are common, including pods of whales, bald eagles, sea lions, and seals, with many finding sand dollars. The park provides scenic picnic areas, including a beach shelter for rent, though bug spray is recommended. While the beach has oyster shells, there is a place to rinse sand off feet. It is a dog-friendly park where dogs on leash are okay, perfect for enjoying the water. There is no playground, but there is a Saturday morning ranger program for kids.
The docks have depths from 1' to a max of just over 3' deep at low tide, as per the reader board at the marina. Mooring balls were great over night, even with a southerly blowing 25kts all night!
