Learn from my expensive foolish mistake and don't get ripped off. I had an appointment with John on 29 March 2024. He obviously took me for the fool that my actions proved me to be. I have learned from my mistake and hope that others can avoid the same frustration I experienced when I realized I had been had.
Maybe his valuation of the gemstones was on point but for gold he was way off the mark. While disparaging other gold stores as being cons who rip people off, he did me dirty and he valued my gold items at less than 60% the price of gold. To top it all off I paid him good money for him to undervalue my items. The whole experience turned into him stating my items are worth less than they really are and stating that he would buy any of the items he valued.
At the start of the appointment he informed me I could pay him $350 an hour to get official paperwork documenting the value of my items or I could pay $150 an hour to get valuation of my items with me writing it down for my own records. I went with the $150 option which could have been my first mistake. What it turned into was him essentially telling me how much he would be willing to pay for my items.
He charged me $150 for the visit and I paid him with a gold ring that he had valued at ~$160. Come to find out, had I taken that ring to a reputable gold purchaser, I would have received nearly $230 for the ring. So my $10 tip for his services turned out to be $80 due to his trying to rip me off. I am so glad I didn't decide to sell a few of the other items I had been thinking about.
Gold prices have been fluctuating but I did the math for the sub 60% valuation based on the price on that day. I have since taken several of those items to another location where they offered me the more reasonable and standard 74% valuation of gold for those items...SHOCKINGLY they didn't charge me one red cent to value my items either!

John promptly appraised my ring, and though there wasn't a market for it, he recommended places to sell it and provided all the necessary information to assist me.

Had an antique wedding ring appraised for insurance purposes. Was able to get an appointment the next day. Reasonable pricing and gave us a very detailed analysis plus a few pointers for maintenance. Learned a lot in one hour. Will definitely use him again if the need arises.

He was fantastic! Got us in with a very last minute appointment. Other places wanted us to drop off the jewelry and come back later which I felt very uncomfortable with since they've been in my family, but he allowed us to stay while he worked and chit chatted with us to whole time. John is awesome! Pricing was very reasonable as well.

This is the guy to see if you want unbiased appraisal for everything from jewelry, loose gems, pearls, to silver flatware. He's friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. He doesn't make you feel hurried and the price is very reasonable. He even tried to help me identify a mystery makers mark on an old ring . I would definitely go back if/when I need to. John is fabulous. Always charges a decent price. Had him verify some stones authenticity and also do some appraisals. He doesn't work solely in this office and always leave a voicemail cause he's a busy guy, but he always gets back to you in a timely manner and he's a great outlet for jewelry and stone communities.

Recently purchased an antique ring online and am SO happy that we were referred to John to have an appraisal consultation done. There is a reason every jewelry store I called referred us to him! We had John appraise our jade and other jewelry. He did an excellent job and kept us informed every step of the way. He is a very personable individual and did a wonderful job of educating us on Jade and gem stones. His clear explanation of the appraisal process was enlightening. We were able to watch the entire process and it was completed quickly but thoroughly. He was a wealth of information with suggestions as to how to proceed with our plan on what to keep and what to liquidate. We drove from Seattle to have our items appraised though there are a number if appraisers in our area and it was well worth the trip. I recommend him over all for his expertise and candor. We will only use him from now on. Excellent experience!
