Unorganized and unfriendly staff. Definitely avoid if you can, so many other tropical fish stores to choose from. Walked in, no one greeted me, and didn't ask if they could help. When I asked someone for help, the person was so unfriendly, never smiled even once. Won't be going back.

I feel super conflicted about this store. It definitely has the potential to be a great pet store, however, the smell when you walk in is overwhelming and it’s kept like someone’s hobby filled basement or warehouse. They have so much room but so much space is just filled with random stuff like boxes, bikes, etc. The bunnies are not kept in the best condition but they totally have the space, if they cleaned up, to have a open cage set up with a litter box which would make them much happier and I’m sure would help with the stench. They also have a flower horn fish in a tank that looks anywhere from 10-20 gals, I’ve never seen a fish that large in anything smaller than a 55 gallon. I think if they cleaned up all the random garbage and invested into some proper care and education this pet store would be awesome.

This has always been the "old" fish store in appearance. Exterior is old and worn, interior is old even some of the inventory, old but new lol It's a big part of the charm. But I have to say, the last couple years they have really been stepping stuff up. The back store room is getting organized and new products with the big fish mostly back there. A lot of different and beautiful goldfish and koi are kept inside, with bigger stuff and plants in the ponds outside. Kiddo loves seeing the Arowana in a ceiling level tank and the big orb aquarium when you enter the fish room. Stopped in yesterday for a couple female swordtails to my colony and left with a pretty female Betta we named petunia lol Plus the swordtails, kiddo fell in love with some feeder guppies with wild type markings like my Endlers, so I have the start of yet another colony of live-bearers. So, if you're driving past the store because of the outside, just ignore that but. It's what's inside that matters.

We come from down South to this pet shop for live mice for our snake. It's convenient, bc on the way back from the North end, we can grab this meal once a week. Usually, we deal with the nice men inside. We recommend their service, rather than the woman with dark hair and glasses. She really hates her job, and we try to avoid her as much as possible. Her customer service skills aren't the best, even her "have a nice day" makes it seem like she'd rather be somewhere else. We see her often, but try not to communicate with her anymore after the first couple of times going in, due to her being snarky and uncaring. And if you are getting a mouse for a reptile, I advise you to ask anyone, but her. She's given us the smallest mice and we have to go in a second time during the week to grab another small mouse for our snake. She won't show you the size or ask what size you need, she will just grab the smallest one and put it in a box.All-in-all, I do recommend their business, except this one person's. Everyone else has exceptional customer service, if they are not too busy.

All the fish are healthy and ready to take home. I've been a customer for over 10 years and have never had a sick fish from this wonderful pet store.

Even though it's kind of a far-ish drive for me, they still have the cheapest costs of all competitors. Staff is always friendly and the place is always clean and stocked.

Staff is always considerate and knowledgeable Every pet has been in good health that I have purchased from them. I love that they are local, with hours that work for my schedule. I will continue to give them my business, looking at those finches to take home next. Thank You for always being prompt with service and prices are right! Kitty Champagne

I love this place so so much it's a little cramped but it's a great pet store large Verity of fish birds and mammals the only complaint I have is the workers one of them are really nice and understanding but the other 3 that I've seen weren't I've gotten 5 fish from them it's been a year or two and they are all doing great has all the supplies you will need and the prices are amazing. Over all a great place

This is definitely one of the grossest pet shops I've ever been in, and I've actually worked in a different pet shop for a long time in the past. It was nothing like this place, and we offered everything, too. But this is the only place in south King County I can get live rats to feed my snake. I've been coming to this pet shop for 20 years now.

I've gotten into the fishtank hobby pretty extensively this past year, and Midway is probably the place I check first if I want something. But I would compare it to shopping at Grocery Outlet for fancy cheeses (legit, they've got a good selection at a steep discount because most people don't buy them) versus going down to DeLautenti. Yes--the staff is very knowledgeable about fish and aquarium plants--although I have been steered wrong in the past for a fish I REALLY liked. But, I do not think they're "only looking to make a sale", I think I paid $3.49 to learn that sub-species often have more specialized care needs than the overall genus (RIP Squirt). Anyway, my $3.49 fish, or Brenda's $15 betta pintrest fail aren't the stores fault, and it's not what's keeping them in business. GSAS members get a discount. And, they have taken delinquent fish from friends of mine. I am able to have really detailed discussions with the staff, which I have really appreciated as I'm learning. I do NOT like: *dead fish. Yes, in a store, the fish are fresh from transport and stressed, so their immune systems are compromised--so there is a higher likelihood that they will pass. But I have come in here a few times and it was really apparent that the person who was working that day didn't do any "clean up"...which is gross. I haven't had any fish from this place perish immediately upon getting them home (looking at you Sierra), but I have gone in and decided that I should probably just go home because the person working isn't doing their job today. *the Non-fish part of the store. The animals are all pretty cramped and sometimes not in the best shape. It's VERY possible that this store is taking in more than the locals unwanted fish--like the locals unwanted iguanas and rabbits--without the greatest resources to accommodate them longterm. Again, I have NOT seen any dead rodents or reptiles in their areas (AGAIN, looking at you, Sierra)--but, if the store was able to partner with the Federal Way Fish and Reptile Rescue but focus more on fish, where their experience clearly lies, there wouldn't be so many community complaints...which I consider valid. *the MESS. Honest, I have a lot of hobbies and half-started enthusiasms at my house. And every 6 months I need to do a significant clear out of things. But this place is what happens when a passionate person goes unchecked for a little too long. Most of the back half of the store is untraversable because of the crap. I 1000% understand having found something really cool but not having a use for it YET...but throw that shit AWAY because it's taking up valuable sale floor space.

Been coming here regularly for a couple years now for aquarium & terrarium needs and mice for my reptiles. Wonderful small business, always have a much better experience here than at the regular chains. The employees are much more knowledgeable and give good advice on fish care especially. Always end up spending more time than I expect to just looking at their wide variety of fish and aquatic plants :)

It pains me to share a less-than-positive review, but after reflecting on the numerous remarks about the store's hygiene and state, I find myself aligning with the general consensus. The cleaning concern is not a recent one; it has been persistent for many, many years and, unfortunately, there doesn't seem to have been any improvement lately. The birds appear quite distressed, featherless, overcrowded, and it seems like their habitat hasn't been cleaned since the store opened. The presence of spider webs everywhere is another concern. It seems as though the owners may have lost their enthusiasm, and this is evident in the apparent lack of attention to detail.

Me and my boyfriend constantly goes to this place A LOT because we like to support businesses that aren't petco or pet smart & they're so knowledgeable & they have cheaper + more convenient options... crazy how a simple question like "do you guys accept Apple Pay" can change your perspective on people. Not sure if the blonde haired girl was having a bad day, but didn't like the attitude coming from her. "You asked us that already. You asked us that the last time" okay.... I forgot & wanted to make sure before I waste their time. The brunette girl is so nice & friendly. She should take tips from her on how customer service is. We LOVE nice people. Anyways gave an extra star because of the options and the other workers who are NICE & knowledgeable.
