Great trainers with very easy to follow training aids, with the at home assignments in place to reinforce this training. Our little dachshund is progressing really well

This is the 2nd edit of my review for the Family Dog Training Center. I initially gave them 5 stars but then edited that review when it seemed like I couldn't get in touch with my instructor in the middle of working out what to do about getting pink eye after the first class. After leaving my complaint here and getting a reply to my review, I was able to talk to the owner of Family Dog Training Center and it turns out that my phone glitched, and my last two messages to my instructor were never received. I'm very sorry for leaving a bad review when the problem was with my phone, and not this company.I'm changing my review back to 5 stars and would like to mention again that the training facility had all kinds of *really* fun looking equipment, and I was really excited to be there. I'm also impressed that they still had the correspondence that I was referring to when I was complaining, making it easy to figure out what had actually happened.

I got some useful training out of this, particularly around training with distractions, but I'm not entirely in agreement with their methodologies. The very frequent use of leash popping for a dog "thinking evil thoughts" just didn't sit right with me. My main issue is that I don't want my dog heeling (or doing any other behavior) with her tail between her legs in fear, I want her eagerly and enthusiastically participating. So I gave it a new command and used positive reinforcement only, and her body language completely shifted. Another example is the labeling of a dog as "having a temper tantrum" because it wouldn't listen to a "down" command. This is probably anthropomorphizing and not evidence-based. The trainer's advice to step on the leash and wait ultimately didn't work to get the dog in a down, and he looked very physically uncomfortable.
