I am a BIPOC Queer woman who got her doctoral degree from Bastyr. And while education here is top notch, the atmosphere at this school is really toxic and xenophobic. Myself and another student were actively targeted at this school throughout our education here by the 'mean girls' from the DAc and MSAOM cohort. They are immature and live and breathe to gossip and slander those who stand out from the crowd. If you're a first generation immigrant, BIPOC, or queer person, consider enrolling elsewhere. Bastyr turns a blind eye on the clear acts of racism, cattiness, bullying, slander (literal lies made up by Karen students who feel threatened by foreigners), and harassment. The cohorts in the AEAM department are so small, that if there is an undercover Karen in your cohort, you'll be stuck with that abuser for the remainder of your education. I understand that conflicts happen. But when people make up lies about others to justify how they feel, it's delusional (I literally watched a woman make up a lie about a colleague, stating that she probably was so intense because she had been always single, never married, no children etc.. only then to see this colleague completely destroy the student's delusions and tell us that she in fact had been married, had a son, and a grandchild). When someone gossips/makes up lies about you, you overhear that, and the next day they are upset that you will not engage in a conversation with them, that's manipulation. When after all that, you're made the villain of the cohort, that's gaslighting. Zero common sense and no boundaries. Last I checked, racism and xenophobia (i.e. continuous harassment of someone because of cultural differences) are still not acceptable outside the walls of Bastyr. Until this school starts addressing its culture of gossip, DEI problems and subjects its passive aggressive and entitled Karens to a disciplinary action, this school will never be a safe place for minorities. The DEI issues and how they get addressed at this school is something to bring up during your school tour and interview. If the school administration dismisses your concerns or resorts to their wishy-washy gaslighting tactics, that is your answer. And unfortunately that will most likely be your experience as a minority student at this school should a DEI issue arise.

I have loved this Bookstore and Marty since I was a student at Bastyr, Marty was the primary factor which made it special. He always remembers alumni and helps students & alumni with their needs. I came in to purchase supplies today (2/2/24) to find the bookstore closed and learned Marty and 20+ others were recently laid off d/t budget cuts apparently. Rhis is a tremendous loss to all who have and will ever need to usethe bookstore services. Extremely sad loss and poor decision by the powers that be. The 4 stars areall representing Marty's past contributions to this community, the missing star is for the horrible decision to let Marty go, I'd be angry if I weren't so shocked.

Three hour interview. Significant health issues. Intern read the consent form. The treatment? Dandelion Tea. I had all ready been drinking that and nettle tea. Really? Maybe ok for basic colds, people with simple digestive issues not for true illness.

Bastyr University - Seattle Wa: This is not a trusting, welcoming or friendly place. I was recently there, as an alumni to give away some of my naturopathic and homeopathic books after 35 years of practice. One would think this right if passage to pass on a few books and words or encouragement to students would be welcomed and add to honouring the life cycle of this interesting profession. Unfortunately they have hired some particularly rude, 'Karen' hall monitors who have nothing better to do then harass their honoured guests after I was given permission to pass out the books. Then a burly goon like character was assigned to take me to the library where my books needed checking for 'names' ?. Names, like my name on the inside cover? The recent graduates I have met from Bastyr seem to be unnecessarily burdened from over $200,000 in debt and most likely will never be able to pay it off. They lacked the ability to interview patients and so were left without the necessary skills to prescribe correctly. After five graduates from Bastyr failed at my practice, a lack of case taking skills was the main problem, I was not able to pass it onto anyone. Back in the day, I was lucky enough to meet the reveered John Bastyr ND, several times during my four years there, he was a warm, empathetic, thoughtful person. He told me he objected to his name being used for this school, now I know why.

This "school" is a scam. The tuition is ridiculous, administration will not properly document payments, and the curriculum is based on woo-woo pseudoscience. Not evidence-based. Above all, in the midst of a global pandemic and economic crisis, sent collections for undisclosed interest accruing over three years (during which, I had never been contacted about the fees).
