Meerkerk Gardens is a beautiful nonprofit botanical garden located on 10 acres of display gardens, surrounded by 43 acres of woodland preserve with miles of nature trails. The gardens are famous for their collection of hybrid and species rhododendrons, set in a woodland environment. Visitors can enjoy well-maintained paths that lead through forests, past ponds, and to scenic overlooks of the Sound. The gardens feature a gazebo suitable for small gatherings, weddings, and picnics, with stunning ocean views. Dogs on leashes are always welcome, and the gardens offer benches and picnic spots for relaxation. An onsite nursery sells plants at reasonable prices, making it a great place for plant enthusiasts. The entrance fee is $5 per person, with parking available nearby (no credit cards accepted). Even after the blooming season, the scenery remains breathtaking. Visitors praise the easy pathways, the variety of mature plants with labels, and the peaceful atmosphere perfect for a nature break. Some suggest adding trail maps for easier navigation. Overall, Meerkerk Gardens is a well-maintained, hidden gem that offers a relaxing experience among beautiful plants and scenic views, making it highly recommended for anyone seeking a peaceful retreat in nature.
Gorgeous gardens with many walking trails. Beautifully curated collection of Rhodes and many, many other plants and trees. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Beautiful 20ish minute drive from the ferry. A must see in April and May!

I’m not a “flower person,” but the forest and trails are a stunning wonderland. I will continue to visit and take guests.
