We pulled up to the Gig Harbor West Marine store at 2:30pm on Saturday, March 2, 2024, with a sign to the right of the door that clearly stated, 'OPEN', just adjacent to the hours posted of 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. We could also clearly see a couple of shoppers in there being personally helped as well as other workers present, walking around. There was no posted signage about a lunch hour, an emergency, stocking hours where they might reasonably be closed to the public until after 3 p.m. on a Saturday, but there was no tangible reason we could see as to why the doors were locked. There was an older lady with glasses that was a worker there that let the customers she was helping out and then glared at us and aggressively flipped the OPEN sign to 'CLOSED'. This is literally one of the most oddly passive aggressive encounters I have experienced in a store. We were trying to save a trip across the bridge, as we were having our son who is learning to drive, ride us around. This was such a turn off for us until I was inspired to post this out of sheer and utter offense. If I can help it, they shall never get my business, especially after reading the previous post about their discrimination. Unbelievable since they can certainly be put out of business by more modern and accommodating businesses.

I am a frequent West Marine customer, but I was incredibly disappointed by my experience in this particular location. As a petite woman of color, I have run into plenty of preconceived judgments during my career in the maritime industry. I am not unaccustomed to people being surprised to find out that I’m the general manager. I am, however, unaccustomed to walking into a West Marine and promptly being made to feel unwelcome in front of the other customers already in the store. Interestingly, my husband walked in a few minutes after me and received a normal, polite welcome. During my short time in the store, in each interaction I had with the West Marine representative I was consistently treated like I must not know anything. I eventually turned and left empty handed when I realized the West Marine representative was openly, loudly talking to other customers in the store about how they just don’t have time on a Saturday morning for people who clearly don’t know anything and must not be real boaters.West Marine can sometimes be a spendier option, but to me the friendly, professional and knowledgeable customer service has made it worth it as I maintain my boats at work and my personal sailboat. My experience in this store location was NONE of the things I had come to trust West Marine for.

They cant find your original order status then after pending charge on bank account reverses they double charge and do not send you shipping or tracking status on the double orders. I am keeping all the double stuff only because they are flags but I am never buying items from west marine ever again. By the way I'm still missing 3 flags.They need a better system and someone needs to be fired!
