They always take good care of my little cocker spaniel. Staff are friendly and courteous. Dr. Woods always has some very good advice on keeping him healthy.

My Goldendoodle had a tough night crying and in pain, and I couldn’t figure out why. My regular vet didn’t have any openings, so I reached out to Brookside Animal Hospital. They were amazing! When I arrived, they met me at my car, which made things so much easier.
They explained the whole process and all the costs upfront, which I really appreciated. The vet checked in with me to see what I wanted to do and kept me updated with any results. Everyone was super friendly and made me feel at ease. I definitely recommend their emergency services to anyone in need!

I recently moved closer to Gig Harbor and no longer was using the vet I used for 30 years (Ridgetop in Silverdale), Dr. Z used to work there and when we found Brookside I was so happy to see she was there. She's a great vet and I trust her to tell me my options. I have 4 cats and 4 dogs and live on a mini farm so we are definitely animal lovers and I am very happy with Brookside.

If you love your pets take them to a different vet. They are to busy to be of any use. Also, if someone opens their car door into yours, if you get angry like I did, they will discontinue business with you. Pathetic.
They never even asked me about my side, or the antagonistic methods used by the individual that assaulted my vehicle. No consideration of what my experience was.
Even before this incident they were terrible to work with, keeping my dogs longer than promised with no messages. I had to call multiple times to get updates on the status of my pets.
Their parking lot is pathetically small, so expect to have people open doors into yours, guarantee, as you wait and wait and wait for service. Under staffed and over booked. Cats roaming the waiting area off leash waiting to be attacked by nervous dogs. Shame on your tactics. I am so glad that I found another vet that genuinely cares for the pets AND their owners.

I love how they come out to get you and your pet when it’s time instead of a waiting room. Staff was very friendly and helpful as well.

I have never taken my pets here, but based on my initial point of contact alone, I would not. In short, they are not transparent about the costs of their services.
I emailed first asking about the general costs and process for getting a feline dental cleaning. I was told "they do not have any canned estimates" and I would need to call to make an appointment first. I called and further inquired about what to expect, and was told an initial exam would be needed and was given the associated cost. That is completely sensible and understandable.
I then asked if bloodwork was required or what else would be needed to determine further steps for getting a cleaning. I was told there are "all kinds of blood panels to choose from" and so they couldn't give me a starting cost estimate for that. I asked if there was a *minimum* cost I should expect for just the cleaning alone (are we talking $500? $1000? More? Less?) so I know the minimum I need to budget for ahead of time, before I spend my time or theirs in scheduling an exam for work I might not be able to pay for immediately. I was told that because "every mouth is different", they just aren't able to provide any kind of base number for starting costs of the procedure.
Having gotten dental cleanings for my pets in the past at other vets, I am fully aware that complications can arise, which changes the associated costs for the work. But I expect a responsible business that is transparent with their clients about their services and pricing should be able to provide a very basic minimum associated cost for any of their work.
Is it a 4 hour procedure for a best case scenario without complications or extra work determined to be needed after the procedure starts? Is this 4 hours of time from a vet and one or two associates assisting them, and the costs for their labor already known? Aren't there hard costs already identified for the anesthesia meds and equipment and anything else that they would already know are required for every dental cleaning? Why wouldn't they be able to share that with the client as a minimum for what they can expect to pay? What else might they withhold from the client if they can't even provide basic starting cost estimates?
If a client can't get a general basic starting point of understanding what they are getting into, it feels like a business that would take advantage of their client's pocketbook. Whether this is how they operate or not I do not know, but wouldn't trust a business that starts (and immediately ends the potential for) a client relationship in this manner. I hope they can be more transparent with other people in the future about costs for their services, to set appropriate expectations for them.

Not a fan. For an initial wellness exam for two dogs, the vet looked at my dogs for less than five minutes. And they have you fill out paperwork online before your appointment, but did not read any of it. So the nail trim, I asked for and the refill I asked for the blood test… None of it happened. Waste of time and money.

They made my elderly mother cry. We have a small senior dog and took her to a place called Cookies in Port Orchard, which offers non-anesthesia dental cleaning for $200. Unfortunately, our dog wasn't a candidate for this service, but they didn't charge us anything and provided a detailed report on her dental issues, even writing it down for us to share with a new vet. At Brookside Veterinary, the wait was long. I arrived early, but unlike most places with air conditioning, we had to wait in the parking lot, where it was hot. Even though it was our scheduled time, we ended up waiting about 40 minutes past our appointment. While we were outside, a staff member took our paperwork inside, including the notes from the previous vet. The veterinarian examined our dog and reiterated what was already on the paper. They suggested a special diet, likely because they sell those products. I informed her that my dog consumes real vegetables, salmon, and chicken, which made her dietary suggestions seem unnecessary. The visit and blood work totaled over $200, but we found out that other clinics across the bridge charge only $74 to $80 for the same services. They pressured us for payment upfront, making me feel uncomfortable, especially when they asked for my driver's license. When we left, they continued trying to sell us on additional treatments, including a painkiller shot for my dog's mouth. I had previously mentioned to the vet that my dog had a very loose tooth, which might have already fallen out because she eats without any issues. The vet confirmed it was still there but noted its position explained why it didn’t bother her. The constant sales tactics were frustrating, reminiscent of a car dealership. After all this, we were told they would call on Monday for an estimate, but they only got back to us on Tuesday to say the blood work was fine. When we inquired about the estimate, they said they would call us back again. The other vet had indicated that extracting the loose tooth shouldn't be very costly, as it was practically falling out. I expressed that my primary concern was the one tooth, with plans to address any future tooth extractions later. Then the lady called back with the shocking estimate of $2,300, not including potential additional costs like X-rays. My mother was taken aback; we expected the total to be around $1,000 to $1,200. The clinic claimed they needed to extract all her teeth, insisting that without doing so, our dog would need to eat soft food. It felt like they were trying to upsell us on their products. My mother simply wanted the one bad tooth removed and a cleaning, but they refused to proceed without pulling all her teeth. To us, this felt like blackmail. They clearly understood we would do anything for our pets and seemed to be taking advantage of that vulnerability, which left my mother in tears, making us feel like our dog would die if we didn’t comply, despite having been told she was healthy. Our dog is only 11 years old. We had a similar small breed that lost most of its teeth due to age and gingivitis but lived to be 15 without needing any extractions. This clinic feels exploitative. A good neighbor referred us to another place that quoted $1,500, which was a much better option. Pros: They seemed professional, easy to communicate with, and good with animals. Cons: Limited parking, long waiting times in the heat, incorrect appointment information, high-pressure sales tactics, and a feeling of being treated like a bill collector. They made my elderly mother cry.

We’ve been taking our “fur” family members to Brookside veterinary and Dr. Lisa Woods’s for over 20+ years and I, without ANY reservations, would recommend Brookside Veterinary Hospital.
Their care, expertise and compassion is without compromise. Equally as important, they are not afraid to recommend you and your pet for additional veterinary expertise if they deem it necessary.

Great hospital with caring staff. I have never once felt ignored, or taken advantage of... in fact I'd say they communicate more and better since the pandemic!
Real people practicing real medicine.
You can tell how much they genuinely love animals... So glad I found this little "gem in the woods"

I took my dog for meds for a bladder infection yesterday. Vet didnt send home any meds. I call to get the meds today, "we have a skeleton crew on, meds are not ready". So, my dog will suffer until Monday! Poor poor excuse. They could have just given the meds yesterday. I will be changing vets! I am not happy neither is my dog. Poor poor service and no thought for the dog.

I brought our cat to Brookside for a scheduled appointment and was told there wasn’t any room for her to be brought into the clinic. I had to wait in the parking lot for the cat to be examined and claws clipped. I also provided some of the meds for the cat. The vet or assistant never looked at what meds were there and didn’t clip all of the cats claws. They tried to sell additional services and meds that we already had. It was not a good experience and will not be heading back anytime soon to stand in a parking lot and pay $100.

Just took my puppy on for his first trip to the vet and these guys were great! I would easily recommend them to anyone who asks.
