I kept thinking of this place since my last visit to my sister and town - we finally went in after asking about your store every time we come.My mom, sister and I got to really enjoy the feeling of the place, it reminded me of a precious treasure bookstore we had back home in Boise, where the shelf’s almost hit the ceiling and to find a book you had to really look!It was really nice having a chat with the man who runs the store. He got to have pleasant talks with my mom talking about the differences in his sale business vs other book stores and he gave me some great advice about how to manage my reading time! Plus where to start on a book a little bit in to see if it’s for me to continue. Never thought of that. Also gave us a great review about the music across the street.Wanted to make a review about your establishment and how humbling it was and to also say thank you for selling me Children of Paradise for 5$… I just finished it last week! After reading some of these reviews, I now have a deeper understanding of your policies and will do my best to uphold them during my next visit. (Not that we brought any bags or purses in but now we know! lol)Keep the convos going and the books stacking!! I’m sure you get the right crowd in from time to time. I sure appreciated the experience.

An excellent used and new bookstore to browse for an authentic bookstore experience. The bookstore clerk is friendly and will greet you when you enter and explain his store procedures and pricing and I personally don't mind because it's better then being completely ignored by the store employees ? like entering a library where I feel like my presence is hindering their day of reading. And I am a picky reader and have found some amazing books.Plus this store will special order books for me,buy my books from me for trade credit and negotiate prices. My favorite bookstore in Ellensburg.

My girlfriend and I went into the store and the man working told us that my girlfriend can either leave her bag up front or he can look through it before and after we shopped, she chose to leave it up front to avoid the uncomfortable invasion of privacy that is searching her personal belongings. We complied entirely. After we were done looking through his sad collection of books we chose to leave, we went to the front of the store to let the man know that we were ready to leave but he was busy having a conversation with a customer so naturally my girlfriend just grabbed her bag and we left. The man then chased down outside and demanded to see my girlfriends bag. We were both annoyed but chose to comply because he was creepily persistent. He told us that if we wanted to leave without my girlfriends bag being checked we should have asked for permission. Obviously it is ridiculous to expect permission to leave a store so i left him with some impolite criticism. I don’t recommend this bookstore to anyone and I personally would never choose to steal but if you are someone who chooses to steal, I don’t believe there is anyone more deserving of being stolen from.

bro tried to search my bag AFTER I left the store and after I had abided to their ridiculous bag policy rule. Making it seem like all your customers are thieves won’t get you any business and I myself, along with no one I know, would want to steal some musty overpriced used books anyways. You are literally employing a stereotype on your customers which is disgusting. Also, you chasing me out of the store to search my bag AFTER I abided to policy because you didn’t “see me walk out” is not only an invasion of my privacy but made me fear for my safety. Legally you have no rights to search people’s belongings and you need to relax to even get any sort of business. I’ll be glad when a new, friendlier bookstore opens up where this one is currently located in a few years as due to the awful environment i’m sure it will close.

Had to show inside my purse before I entered the store and then again when I left… All customers must do this.. A little strange- won’t be going back!

Won’t give this guy any more business, follows people around the store and then says he need to look on women’s bags as the leave because people have stolen from them. I wanted so badly to give him an earful, but it’s just not worth it. Get your books from somewhere else :)

Such an odd, weird, incredibly off putting gentleman working there. First off the bag policy in so bizarre but sure king take a gander at my tampons and cigarettes if that’s what you’re into… but what really got me was him conversing with my friends and bringing up theft (they had NO bags) also the only thing I had looked at was a large world record book from the year I was born oh let me cram that in my coach mini, girl bye. Based on other reviews I read the employees paranoia w theft is a common theme in this establishment, if you’re that worried protect your business and install cameras.

Ridiculously overpriced, extremely unprofessional dude w Fanny pack on does not stop talking.kept bringing up theft throughout the entire experience almost implying we were stealing, I can see why he’s giving people racist vibes.maybe sell some stuff bc there clearly isnt room and it’s very cluttered. That w the unprofessional associate creates a hostile and uncomfortable environment. i understand that maybe he is excited to share his knowledge and talk but he does it to the point where you wanna just wanna leave. Maybe be more welcoming and people would wanna buy stuff not everyone goes in there to steal dusty overpriced USED books maybe take a social skills class as well as learn some manners and people won’t find you so off putting, thanks for the bad experience! Live long and prosper ?

I had come into the store to take a look and see if maybe I could find something good to come home with but unfortunately the owner talks ALOT. He does not stop. He doesn’t even pause to breathe. I’m not sure if this was a tactic to get me to leave? Maybe he thought I was there to steal? Idk but not letting me look at the books by going on and on with the unbelievably long rants made sure I would never go back. I’m not exactly sure why you thought I was going to steal? I didn’t have a backpack or anything. Maybe just me looking around was suspicious enough for you? You don’t understand how hurtful it is to hear that someone just assumes you are a criminal (hopefully not because of my skin color) for no reason? From what I remember I walked around the store for a few minutes not even touching anything before you started harassing me. I hope you continue to chase away potential customers with your paranoia and unreasonable policies. Also instead of fighting with everyone trying to tell you what’s wrong with your store in the reviews maybe take some constructive criticism? Also the reason you probably didn’t call the cops is they probably wouldn’t have been able to do anything considering I HADNT EVEN DONE ANYTHING NOR WAS I PLANNING ON IT.

I didn't buy anything because I was just curious, but had a great conversation with the owner. He gave me great tips for marketing authors I work with. Wish I had more time to chat, but we were next door playing music lol! Ellensburg is wonderful for the arts and knowledge. A hidden gem!

The place is a fire hazard. Also the person working at the door checks peoples purses going into the store and leaving the store. This seems paranoid and kind of sick. Why ould you need to check someones bag going into the store? It's almost as if he was getting off on looking through my wife's things. I will not spend 1 dollar at this business.

What is the point of having hours of operation when they are not adhered to? Both online and ON THE DOOR OF THE STORE says it opens at 10am. I tried to come around 10:25am and stayed till almost 11:30am and they remained closed. No website and no post/update on their FB page about why they were closed or when they would open. Quite disappointing, looks like a good bookstore from the outside I suppose.

Decent selection of used books, but the owner kept talking to other customers when I repeatedly asked if I could pay for my items and be on my way. I finally just gave up and left.

Ooooh, pricey! I was so surprised to see the high prices on such common mass market items and everyday magazines. Not really impressed with the "customer service" too. The owner guy seems okay and is not actually rude but seemed more interested in conversing than helping.
