The Whidbey Institute is a very special place to visit. The land is deep and beautiful, and the buildings are nestled gently into the calming and majestic presence of the trees as if they themselves grew from the island hills. The staff are welcoming and soothing and the food is incredible. While the program that drew me there wasn't important part of my experience, the place itself is already drawing me back just moments after leaving.I highly recommend taking some time to visit this place and to find your way of connecting with a quietness and openness it has to offer.

An idyllic and beautiful getaway in the south of Whidbey Island. It brings to mind images of Tolkien's Rivendell. Lush forest with wonderfully maintained grounds and trails winding through it. Definitely a must visit location.

We went to check this place out but it was closed for a private retreat. Which is no worries. But when we talked to someone she was quite curt and gave some mixed messages to our family. Honestly I felt turned off by that and don't think we will return based off of the unfriendly vibe.

The institute is a non profit that offers retreats and has its grounds open to the public. This review is for the trails visited though after eyeing the cabins and the grounds, I'm looking at signing up for a retreat.Went here for a group hike and it was a lovely, relaxed walk through multiple short trails. Mostly gentle incline except for the steep Goat trail.Lots of tree roots to watch out for to avoid tripping on the hike but other than that, its safe for older and the littlest of hikers. No restrooms onsite but downtown Langley is just a few minutes drive and has public toilets.Recommended for families with little kids, older adults, and individuals looking for a meditative hiking experience. Dogs are not welcome on the trail. Plenty of parking available.

A sanctuary doing good works in a mad world. Take excellent courses or volunteer in the gardens or stay in a sweet cabin and dine on stellar fresh food.

Yes the labyrinth is lovely, as are the grounds & cabins. I volunteered to pull weeds, and met 3 kind volunteers and Jules and Marta, our leaders. A healing experience for sure:)

Beautiful outdoor labyrinth...a quiet, serene space to clear your mind, re-center, and perform a walking meditation.

Great facility, but better not think your belongings are safe if you leave them anywhere out your site, on the grounds. had a vintage guitar that I owned for 25 years, stolen out of the the 'sanctuary' of all places. Whoever stole it knew what they were looking for too, as they only stole that guitar (thankfully?) . I Had the OK from the groundskeeper to leave things (lot's of expensive things) in the space. Within a window of 3 hours in the middle of the day, my guitar was stolen.... later was I was told by the groundskeeper "oh yeah, sometimes some kids from around the island come and hang out there without permission"..... Oh great! thanks! Nice to know that after the fact. Other than that, seems alright. Good food.... But not safe from Robbery!
