I think this is wonderful place. I haven't done a lot of shopping here for my cat, but I've enjoyed wandering around this nice store while my partner gets supplies for his birdies. He introduced me to Petco, and I became especially glad that he did when I searched all over town for Arm & Hammer Absorbex cat litter. I had tried two of the other Arm & Hammer varieties of clumping cat litter, and I did not like them (too easy to leave the box along with the cat! Not a happy experience if the cat gets into my bed!) But I liked Absorbex very much, and the manufacturer kindly gave me $60 worth of replacement coupons. The trouble was finding a place that carried sufficient volumes of litter for me to be able to use the coupons fully.I called all over town (B'ham is small, after all!) And one of my last calls was to Petco. Not only do they carry my preferred litter, but they had the size I needed! Po-ou was true to his word, saving their last box for me, along with instructions on how to follow-up if needed. When I went in, I was helped by Kim who was wonderful. The staff were so helpful, good-humored and just terrific. And at the end of my saga, I was rewarded with an amazing sight: A huge metal container filled with giant Lamb Chop stuffed toys--and I do mean giant!--at a steal of a price. Having fantasized that my mom named me for Shari Lewis, I had to indulge, and Lambie is now happily ensconced in my home. What a great store!

Never any staff to help. You ask about products and you get minimum response or help. No professional assistance available. They say they have it in stock and point you in the direction and the whole shelf is empty, do they not know of their own products? And if they have it or not. Don't tell customers that shipment came if you don't have the products to show for it.

Took my reluctant dog to get his nails trimmed. They did a fantastic job with him. My vet said they'd only trim his nails if I sedated him first. So glad I took him here! Am so relieved!

We have a super nervous chipoo who we brought in for some grooming. Everyone was super nice and Amanda (who was her groomer) was really thoughtful about what she needed to be comfortable. They held off on the drying process because they could see it would be really scary for her. We're so grateful for how thoughtful everyone was towards her!

The woman there named Brianna was blatantly homophobic to my partner and I. She refused to respect my partners pronouns, and when we held hands once while walking around the store she told us to be respectful to others in the store by keeping our PDA to a minimum. She interrupt us mid-sentence on multiple occasions, raised her voice and spoke to us like we were idiots. God forbid she is ever in a position of leadership, because any store that leads by her example is sure to fail. It was clear that she didn't know anything about animals nor proper customer service.

When Tracy Hall's Bulldog named Max died suddenly at a Petco groomer, no one gave Hall the honesty she deserved. Instead, they said they "couldn't tell her" how and why her beloved dog died. Now, almost a year after the incident, Hall still didn't get the closure she needed. The more she asks the groomer about what happened, the less they tell her. The fact that her dog died suddenly is awful, but it's even worse that the abusers at Petco are refusing to own up to their mistakes. An Unexplainable Death In January 2021, Hall left her 3-year-old Bulldog with a Petco groomer in Venice, Florida. Right away, she had concerns, but she thought he would be okay. When the groomer put the harness around Max's neck, Hall commented that it looked too tight. "He's got a big neck and you could barely see the choker. I said this looks too tight. She is like 'no, this is protocol. We use this on all the breeds. It is safe,'" Hall said Only a half-hour after Hall left Petco; she got a call that made her blood run cold. The groomer said that Max was being rushed to an animal hospital. When Hall asked what had happened, the person on the phone said, "unfortunately, I can't tell you." When Hall had dropped Max off, he was healthy. But he died shortly after arriving at the vet. No one ever gave Hall an explanation, and they didn't perform an autopsy on the dog. Still Looking for Answers Don Cahall, the attorney working on the case, is determined to give Hall the answers she's looking for. Cahall obtained security footage from the business, which showed Max collapsing several times on the grooming table. He said employees also wrestled Max while his neck was still restrained. No one reached out to Hall until after the dog was unconscious. "They retained me to get involved to demand surveillance video, to demand answers as to what happened to this dog who they love. We have been able to get information, and what the information has shown us is that Petco appears to have acted not only negligently in the death of this dog, but grossly negligent," Cahall said. Petco are showing themselves to be a deceitful and abhorrent bunch of scumbags and are trying to dismiss the complaint, claiming that they followed reasonable standards of care. But Hall and Cahall won't stop fighting back until Hall gets some answers for why her loving, healthy Bulldog died so tragically. Hall's family is also suing Petco for over $30,000. The trial date is currently set for August 15th, 2022. It's a long process to get answers, but Max deserves justice. No more dogs and families should have to go through something like this, especially without knowing why

Scheduled my dog for a wash and "deshed" appt and that was pretty easy online. I normally take him to a smaller business or my local groomer but they were fully hooked until jan 2022! So, I though if try a chain co to groom him, quoted online for wash $60 + $40 d-shed. When I picked him up I almost had a heart attack with the final service charges! They tacked on a "brush" fee of another $40 totally almost $200! he is a big boy and they spent another hour or so, but I've never spent that much on a single wash on him! i picked him up late but the whole appt probably only lasted 3hrs which is the same amount of work time that my local groomers do for at most $120. Then the manager had the nerve to tell me "well you should consider staying with your regular groomer"! Yah ok thanks "Sue". DO NOT WASTE BRING YOUR DOG here for grooming! They will up charge you with extra fees they specially if you have a double coated pup. This was my first time for a groom appt and we never coming back! Not even for food and toys! That's what Chewy.com is for.

The groomers are good grooming dog they're friendly the problem I had with this store is I tried to write a check and they say they take checks but really all they do is rent through machine and the Machine determines if the checks good or not well obviously it doesn't f****** work are we going to hold my three dogs hostages until I paid some other form of payment. So I would not take any dogs there they don't care about your pet. And I would have been you know fine but the manager she's an old grumpy b****. Oh did I mention it cost $261 to have three dogs have their hair cut

Very uneducated and discriminating employee. Employee at the cashier asked me to wear a mask next time I come into the store. I told her I have a medical exemption. She said no exemptions exist. Seconds later she was asking to see my medical card. I told her per my doctor I don't have to show it to her. Then she starting pressing me to find out what kind of medical issues I had. Like are you serious?! Then she went on about how she has severe asthma and wears a mask 8 hours a day. CDC site still has a section for "exemptions" so don't know where that lady got info about no exemptions. She might be on the wrong CDC website. I'm taking my business elsewhere Petco.

We took our very senior lab for a bath and a nail clipping. He has a difficult time getting around, especially getting in and out of the bathtub. His Groomer Madison took such great care with him and was able to accommodate him to make it easier for him. She did an amazing job. Madison is excellent at what she does. She also has a special sense about her when it comes to dogs. 5 Stars definitely for Madison.
