I'm so upset with this place that I'll never go back. I was referred to Maplewood Animal Hospital about 6 yrs ago and I gotta say, I haven't been impressed. A desk person was very rude on the first visit, they've been pushy to buy things my dog doesn't need and the final straw happened early yesterday morning when my sisters small dog (who is also a tri-pawwed) was badly injured by a deer attack in our yard. She had a very bad, deep gash on her side and it was clear she needed immediate medical attention. We rushed her to Maplewood where she was examined, her wound was cleaned and she was given antibiotics and pain meds. She needed surgery but they refused to provide it until it was paid for up front. They wanted $1000. That's jacked up. Since when do people pay for any urgent medical care up front? Where's the compassion for the injured dog? I get that they may have had some bad experiences in the past with payment and this policy is now enforced. But COME ON... take care of the animal! Later in the day my sister called to tell me she was struggling to get all the money together so I said I'd pay for whatever she couldn't pay. But at 3pm it was "too late in the day, they'll be closing soon, come get the dog and bring her back tomorrow." I was mad. So, I left work early to pick her up. I paid over $400 and they didn't even wrap or bandage the wound. I meN, I took a first course and even I know enough to wrap a wound to keep it clean. I was livid. So, I took the dog to EAC on Guide Meridian. They did an outstanding job. They were compassionate, kind and they seemed to really care. They took such great care with this poor little baby. They did the surgery and here's the kicker; Emergency Animal Care did the surgery for less than what the Maplewood Vet wanted. As far as I'm concerned; if a vet neglects even one beloved pet, then they really don't deserve even 1, 5 star review. Maplewood Animal Hospital, you've lost the plot.

Maplewood has always impressed us with their professionalism and impeccable care for our dog. They show compassion, have always been so great with our anxious dog, and been there for us. Even in her passing, they have gone above and beyond. I would recommend them to everyone. Thank you, Dr. Rabkin, Shelby and everyone else for the amazing care you provide.

Our Lab is always taken care of with great care and friendliness. She has a bit of anxiety and is super scared of strangers. All the staff at Maplewood make her feel welcomed and safe. They always get on the floor with her and give her lots of lovin.

Update for 12-17-19: Meg had to go back into today as she was still not doing well. An x-ray showed the needle lodged in her throat. The sewing needle was able to be removed without incision and both sides communicated, clearing the air. There were multiple disconnects indicating something medically wasn't resolving, it was missed. It appears there is a synchronicity of events, none connected to the other, that can be determined. Dr. Rabkin will talk with the ER vet on the subject of listening to the pet's owner. There should have been an x-ray of her throat at the time we had Meg there. Because the ER vet found one thing they didn't go further, even at me questioning if another x-ray was needed. Anyway, long story, Maplewood did the right thing. They corrected the experience and take this as good information for moving forward. I am very impressed with Dr. Rabkin and the office staff's efforts to make this right. Integrity is a gift and so I hope this encourages confidence in the reader. One last thing, there wasn't a "catfight", more like a growl-off and they did put a towel on her door to help her. Today the puzzle pieces fit together.

VERY Hard review to write. I don't write reviews... On the one hand, I am so thankful to some of the vets here and some of the staff. I love my pets and I try to do all I can for them. I have been a very long time customer- many years. Again, VERY thankful for some of the assistance I have received. Things have slipped in last couple years. As the establishment has gotten so popular, they are simply too busy now. A person can hardly get through on the phone. Finding a parking spot can be a challenge. Snippy staff at times. You end up feeling like a 5 year old being chastised at times. I spend thousands a year here. The biggest feeling that resonates lately is they don't seem to care, pay your bill and hurry it up- there's a line behind you. Sigh. I am asking myself "I am spending a lot of money here and often, feel like I am an intrusion to them. How do I leave?! Its a quandary." Some staff appear to have lost the reason they probably started in pet care- to work with and around pets and to help them/their owners. In the old days- many were YES people- "yes, we can help you, we can accomodate....etc etc" Today, they are often "NO, sorry" people. I am curious if another vet office would like my money better....

I had an experience remarkably similar to EB's and am sharing now seeing that they (hopefully) take these reviews seriously. Like most pet owners, I have spend thousands of dollars on Pet care. I only take my babies to Maplewood. Once I had to leave work early to take my sick cat in and hit construction on Maplewood then took a wrong turn. Ran about 5 minutes late even called ahead like Sionan responded to do. When I got there I felt berated by Shelby and felt the stress piling up from having to leave work early, road construction, a sick cat, and then a total attitude that my appointment was going to be forfeited because I was late. I almost turned around and never went back. You saved my puppy's life so you'll always have my service and I've since found Shelby is just very gruff but attentive and kind and I am sincerely hoping that is not the normal response. Do better - potentially by telling your patients that there's construction in the area, alternate places to park, and acknowledging these limitations at the time of scheduling rather than blaming the person at time of arrival. Update for 2019: it's getting impossible to get through to anyone on the phone. I've called and left messages and after 3 hours of no return call, I tried their office about 5 times and couldn't get through. It's losing all sense of connection and is a straight up money churning business. The phone issue is chronic and pervasive.

We love this office. Today we had to put our sweet dog to sleep and they were wonderful during the entire process. Very sympathetic, showed genuine love and helped a heartbreaking event seem possible to do.

I love Maplewood Animal Hospital, and I have not met a better veterinarian than Dr Rabkin. He's the first, and only, vet that my cat has been comfortable around. I've always been treated kindly by the staff, and they are great at explaining everything to me in a friendly and understandable way. I always feel confident bringing my cats here to be seen. Their prices are very reasonable, they've never charged extravagant amounts, and have even discounted some services completely before. I highly recommend them.

As per the reply below by Victoria P. not only did she try call, she did call even though I had asked to be contacted by Dr. Monroe. And during that call when I told her they no longer give a s%$# about long time customers, she took offense at my language and hung up. Customer service at it's finest. Sorry Victoria, we won't be back.

We have been taking our animals here for over 8 years and even though we have moved 30 minutes away since we started have our pets cared for there ,we continued to do so and have never missed or been late for an appointment prior to today ,we called to let them know we were 15 minutes late . When we got there they told us we had to reschedule , my husband asked why they didn't tell him this when he called . He was told by the receptionist ,that he had spoken to someone with their answering service and if she had answered the phone ,she would have told him not to bother coming and to reschedule . Meanwhile someone walked in without an appointment and they took them in right away . Our dog just needed her shots , 5 or 10 minutes of time at the most .They have become rude and non caring of their patients or loyal customers. You obviously cannot get through to them on the phone when you need to . This is unacceptable and quite frankly the last straw . Sorry , but they have gone completely down hill over the past 4 years and we will be talking our animals to a vet that still cares about our animals and loyal patrons .

I have a beagle puppy and everyone tells me good luck when I say that...I yelped this vet because I was new to Bellingham and they knocked it out of park! My puppy needed shots and her nails cut. She needed a couple more weeks for her Rabies shot-they took her in back and gave her the shots she needed and trimmed her nails...couldn't recommend them more

I also have to chime in here and say that I am a former long-time customer and Maplewood is not the caring place it used to be. They are clearly aiming to maximize the profits, and this really became evident when they hired a "practice manager." Her influence is clearly seen and it is not good. They have constant staff turnover. They have become far more difficult to deal with and less caring of their patients and unwilling to give personalized service. Also, if you're going to go for the big bucks, then spend some of it on customer service. You cannot get through to them on the phone. They need to have one person dedicated to the phone alone, in addition to the people up front who have to help clients and walk-ins.

I have only been going to Maplewood a short time, since I got a new puppy. I really enjoyed Dr. Andreas, she has always been kind and knowledgeable; however I was thoroughly put off today by one of the (I assume new) receptionists. I called to make an appointment because my puppy has had diarrhea for three days and I explained that he ate some other dog's food and I assumed that's why he's having diarrhea. The receptionist asked me to drop him off to spend the day for observation so they could monitor his vomiting (I never said he was vomiting) and I told her I could not as I was already at work and could not come until evening or the next day. She insisted I bring him in and continued to tell me, in so many words, how irresponsible I was for not bringing him in and how he was not fully vaccinated. I let her know my puppy was just there for his last set of vaccines and that he wasn't even vomiting, just having diarrhea. I absolutely will not tolerate being lambasted and made to feel like I'm a bad pet owner just because (like most people!) I have a job and cannot just leave it! My attempt to simply make an appointment for my sick puppy turned into a completely unnecessary lecture from a receptionist. I was never impressed by the front desk service and this ensured I will not be going back. After this conversation, I called Banefield at PetSmart and they were genuinely kind and willing to see us the next morning.
