This review is specifically for the employee at the register LuzI went to the store to return a pair of shoes and she got questions that made me feel quite uncomfortable- when did you make the purchase?Don’t you see it on your end since I provided the phone number already?- are they used at all? Flipping around to check the shoes at the same timeCan’t you tell from the condition of the bottom? I meant I literally received them 3 days ago- when asked about reason for returning, I told her I didn’t expect the color. She said well it is labeled as lilac I was like I was referring to the online image being misleading ok??You really don’t have to have such an attitude to a customer who simply wants to make a genuine return?

Recently I was having a rough couple of weeks and decided to use my membership rewards as a little treat to myself by visiting the Bellevue REI store.I ran into this lovely lady who was overseeing the fitting rooms and who asked about my neck tattoo, and she had the best reaction I've encountered thus far, especially from a less open generation on the idea. She said, "it's like permanent jewelry, I love it". That made my while day, because even though it's a geometric tattoo I usually encounter other types of reactions on it.While heading out of the store after treating myself to some used gear and new vuori items, I set off the security checkpoint. After pausing for a second I decided to just continue to leave because I just paid for everything. I got outside about half way to my car and was startled by an employee asking if they could see my items. So I doubled back to the entrance to show them the items and thought it might have been a magnetic tool from bag that I use for work. The employee said I was all good and we went on our ways. However, this for some reason really triggered my PTSD and I was having a hard time with the whole thing. So I decided to go back in to figure out why I set it off and to prove I wasn't stealing anything. I found the employee who stopped me to talk to him about it (Jay). He was very understanding about the whole situation and reassured me they didn't think I was stealing, they just wanted to make sure they got all of the tags off as it's cumbersome to deal with once you get home. He also apologized because the shouting in the dark parking lot may have been less than ideal but he was just trying to help.We tested the tool from my bag and it set off the security checkpoint again. It was relieving to be able to have this reassurance and understanding. Of course I learned my lesson to carry that in my bag.To be able to have people who were not only understanding about the situation, but also aware of mental health andwho would take the time to help me feel comfortable again to be in one of my favorite stores is something, I'll never forget. Not everyone would take the time, especially at the end of their day to work day. I'll be honest the whole thing was kind of embarrassing for me and not something I normally have happen, but as many things in life, it's a learning experience. Not only did I get to treat myself, but got to have a great human experience.

Sales person was too condescending and was kind of being awful. Perhaps he gets paid by commission? He was being passive aggressive because I was purchasing an item that was on sale instead of full priced item that he was keep pushing me to, telling me negative things about the the item I liked enough, because they were on sale..? and wouldn’t stop talking about the price.!! he mentioned 9 times regarding pricing (without exaggeration) during my 15min stay. And I never once asked about it. ?

A little bit of heaven with a whole lot of anguish- nobody should be allowed to work across the street from their 'candy' store... I absolutely love getting outside in the incredible old growth wildernesses here in the Pacific Northwest and REI is the absolute master at meeting. All of those needs from absolutely incredibly diverse selections of both affordable and top-notch gear to a staff that is always so very knowledgeable and so willing to help. Pretty sure if they started offering snacks, I would move in. I end up making excuses to go in and then end up just browsing and being fascinated with all the incredible gadgets that make my time in the wilderness so much more fulfilling. I'm in love with this store and the Bellevue REI is truly incredible. Love you guys!

Went for a Bike repair and had to wait for 40 mins to be turned down service. one of the associates initially took a look at the bike and then asked me to wait again. If they are not gonna work on the bike, they could have said so directly.Service here mostly depends on who you deal with and what is the work involved. Either way expect to be disappointed, overcharged and over waited

This REI in Bellevue has a ton of reviews citing issues with staff attitude and disrespect, and I have to say, they are accurate. The staff here seem like they do not want to help. And they certainly don’t know how to treat customers with respect. My visit at REI left a bad taste in my mouth, when one of the employees who works at the snow rentals shop, thought it was appropriate to make guesses about how much I weigh and making comments about my size. I immediately went and complained to a manager who just apologized and said he oils talk to Caden.REI needs to do better. This behavior is disgusting

After having a bad experience at the Seattle location, I came to the Bellevue REI to get resized for ski boots and skis. I had Calvin help me size and mold ski boots. He was immediately ready to help and was very friendly my whole time there. Also, he offered me a 10% discount for my previous bad experience at the Seattle REI. The employees at the ski shop were also incredibly helpful. Additionally, they promised to install and adjust bindings in just a day. Very pleased with my experience here.

Stopped by the ski shop for a binding test, Rich went above and beyond to help me get my skis ready in less than an hour. He also went in depth explaining how and why he did every adjustment. It’s an exceptional experience!!!

A couple months ago, Jace in the bike department absolutely made my day by fixing a flat for me on the spot. There was no wait at all when I walked in, he quickly found the right size tube and got me back on the road in minutes. May we all be so lucky to get any flats while passing this REI!

Please don’t put young kids on the checkout. They are just not trained enough on good customer service. I am constantly shocked at the quality of customer service the younger kids are providing. It makes me feel like I work for them, even though I’m the customer. Just rude and careless. It almost comes off entitled and disrespectful. If you want to put them on check out, then train them on the highest standard of customer service. Otherwise just don’t. Remember most of the time, that is the only interaction customers have with in store employees and therefore you want to make sure customers leave the store having had a positive experience with your brand. Not one where they regret their purchase

I really like REI overall and the service is good if you can get someone to help you which is usually during less busy times. Unfortunately I didn't have great experiences during sales events trying to get help in both their ski and shoe departments on two separate visits. They lacked sufficient personnel and process to serve customers in a timely and efficient manner. I ended up having to go to a non-REI store or online to get what I needed.

Ellie from the Bellevue store was nothing but helpful and warm and customer obsessed. She helped me with my return and she was super knowledgeable about company policy and has customer in mind. She made my day better.
