A must see place on the island, very walkable with good paved trails, water fountain at the entrance and restrooms. The loop takes about 2 hours to complete but you can easily spend 4h there exploring the area. Take in mind that while bus can take you to the reserve from downtown easily, you might have trouble getting back because of the open construction zone. We ended up taking an uber to get back.

Absolutely loved the nature reserve. Just the pure variety was astonishing, from pine trees, to moss, views of puegot sound, japanese architecture and gardens (to reference the japanese heritage of the island), a stately home, a cabin and a reflective lake as well as some great lakes and forests. Truly the highlight of my trip to Washington State.
The reserve encapsulates everything I love about the State of Washington. The other plus is that it's never too busy either so you're not walking around crowds of tourists and locals, but you feel you've got the place to yourself. I'd reccomend minimum 2 hours to take in the tranquil nature of Bloedel.

Bloedel Reserve is a beautiful, tranquil space..the perfect choice for an easy two mile walk (or less if you choose) through a variety of landscapes...natural meadows, an historic home with sweeping vistas of the sea and its beautifully landscaped grounds, pollinator meadows, ponds and deep woods with towering trees. The trail is very well maintained and easy to walk. There is an interesting welcome desk and gift shop. We come back every year when visiting the island, and it is equally lovely in the Spring and Fall. Purchase your timed admission ticket on the website as it is a popular destination.

Our visit to the reserve was very memorable. We were fortunate with the weather, allowing us to enjoy the tour fully. I recommend buying tickets in advance and arriving as early as possible. Every section of the reserve was well thought out. The textures of the trees, with the perfect amount of moss and fern, made it resemble a rainforest. The Japanese section was particularly beautiful, with maple trees and cherry blossoms in bloom. The first floor of the residence was open to the public, and the view of the Puget Sound from there was breathtaking. Few trees were a few hundred years old and they were beautiful!

Such a beautiful walk. And my grandma was able to do the walk and she recovered from a broken hip so it’s not too difficult while still being beautiful.

I just came back to Seattle after a magical few hours at Bloedel. I don’t want to say too much because part of the joy is coming upon the unexpected. What I loved most was the meditative nature of the experience. You decide to go left and you come across one kind of natural beauty. Make a right, and see something else. Sometimes you make a turn and it leads to a dead end, but you see something that made the walk incredibly worth your time. Such a wholesome way to spend a few hours. It’s worth planning your day around coming the Bainbridge just to see the reserve.

Stunning public gardens that are definitely worth visiting. It was pretty much empty when we came on the weekend. It takes about 2 hours to slowly stroll through all the different gardens.
The property itself is also stunning and has a room dedicated to the history of the house.
I’ve seen several reviews suggesting picnicking on the lawns, but for what it’s worth the website says that’s not allowed.

We came on a Friday afternoon so it was very easy to get in, but reservations are recommended on the weekend. This is a beautiful place with lots of history, give yourself a couple of hours to walk through and learn about the Bloedel family and their dedication to nature preservation. The tour is self guided and there is minimal signage, which is intentional. Enjoy the grounds!

The Bloedel Reserve is amazing! Its incomparable beauty will leave you with a lasting impression. From the natural, open entry to the Reflection Pool, and through the moss garden, you'll want to be immersed all day in these spaces. Take your time. Enjoy the serenity of its many water features and the tranquility of the Japanese garden. I love this place and highly recommend a visit if you're going to be on Bainbridge Island. I visited on 3/9/24. It was a rainy day but still an amazing visit!

2 weeks ago I made the trip by ferry from Seattle ( visiting from Toronto, Canada) with my little dachshund Cooper. I thought this would be a great place to explore since its all outdoors. I came to the property after a half hour walk from the bus and was told that they do not accept any dogs to visit!! This is a small little companion dog and its all outdoors!! I was appalled by the very rude behavior of the woman manning the gate! No mention of dogs not being allowed on Google- when I pointed this out the very rude reply was to look on their website!
DO NOT VISIT THIS AWFUL PLACE!! I also found out that it is privately owned
