I absolutely love browsing in a great bookstore. It is wonderful to be able to look at books I am not familiar with. The atmosphere was amazing! So friendly, calming and welcoming. I felt as if I was walking into an old friend's house. The books and records are arranged thoughtfully and the prices were reasonable. Definitely worth spending sometime browsing and purchasing.

Owner is extremely nice and knowledgeable. Great assortment of vinyls for very reasonable prices. I never go anywhere else for vinyls.

It's where audiophiles travel back into a time that only existed in their dreams. You'll feel ethereal. Like nothing matters but the vinyls. The music. The level of great products at affordable prices. My journey had brought me here to find a Thelonius Monk vinyl...which sadly they didn't have. My journey continues. Instead, I purchased two records for 5$ (deals or nah?). But this place...I'll tell ya...if you haven't gone, you're doing yourself a disservice. I mean it's no Barnes and noble type corporate giant, so avoid if that's what you like. Sometimes quality and nostalgia are priceless. Once you get that whiff of vintage books, it's a wrap. P.S. - You'll have to walk by someone's extremely well kept reading room to reach vinyls. I recommend, at the least, browsing there for a minute.

Walked in and Michael Kiwanuka was spinning... Need I say more. Excellent shop. Well organized, wide selection, and decent prices. Took some time to speak with Raymond, the shop owner, about the joys of discovering new music. When I shared with him that I was not from the area, he was kind enough to direct me to some other Seattle shops worth visiting. If you find yourself in the Seattle area, definitely try to make it out to Bainbridge and visit Raymond at Backstreet Beat.

Prices where fair. Condition of the records are in good shape. Limited supply since it is a resale shop. Fun to visit.

Friendly service. It's not a huge selection, but what they have is good. The books they have are an added bonus.

I traveled from Portland, Oregon to Seattle for a few days and a friend recommended this record/book store on Bainbridge Island. The next day we took a ferry from Seattle to the island to walk around for the day. I stopped in the Backstreet Beat and bought a handful of nice vinyl. A very small store, but nicely curated. Very friendly and great service. I would certainly recommend stopping in.

My hubby and I were actually on our way to check out another bookstore, when we stumbled across this hidden GEM in an alleyway!!!! This bookstore was SO legit. Incredible atmosphere, friendly owner, wonderful collection of books and LP's. The ambience of the place, and the heart and soul that were poured into this charming Brick and Mortar shop were enough to make it one of my favorite new bookstores. A must visit if you go to Bainbridge Island!!!

A great curated collection. Was kindly offered help, and ended up having a great conversation about Douglas Adams

Great prices, good atmosphere, not too hard to find. I'll definitely be back! I got two paperback fiction novels in perfect condition for $3 and $4. We broke college students need more places like this to shop from, reading can get expensive :)

I'm a resident of Bainbridge and I hardly ever pop in to shops on Winslow... EXCEPT Backstreet Beat. I always make sure to take the time to stop by because I will almost certainly find a new treasure. Always changing selection of music, great staff, and good atmosphere.

Wonderful little used book and record shop. It had been closed for a while (I'm willing to bet pandemic-related), but they're finally back open! Not a huge selection of records, but some good finds! Location is convenient and the fellow working the counter when I was there was quite nice.
