Stood at the live fish tanks for 20 minutes but no one ever came to sell us fish while two employees were just leaning on the counter. And fish tanks were not labelled with the correct fish. I won't go back.

I debated whether to share our recent experience with Petco's grooming service, but after the unnecessary stress and a vet visit for my dog, I decided it was important. This is a cautionary tale for anyone considering Petco's grooming services (specifically the Wytheville location).
I dropped off my dog for her grooming appointment on Tuesday, June 18th, a little before 3 pm, as the groomer called and said we could come early. Less than 30 minutes later, I got a call asking if my dog could be pregnant. I assured them she wasn't, having just seen the vet on June 13th. Despite this, the groomer insisted my dog was lactating and they couldn't continue without vet confirmation.
They decided to stop the grooming and asked me to pick her up immediately. When I arrived, she was half-shaved, and the groomer had me feel her supposedly "distended" belly. This was stressful for my dog, who then had to endure a vet visit in 82°F weather.
The vet confirmed my dog was not pregnant and had not been lactating. The vet bill covered an unnecessary physical exam and ultrasound.
Afterward, I returned to Petco to find the grooming salon closed. The on-duty manager rescheduled the grooming for the next day and assured it would be complimentary. Initially, they said it would be later in the week before they could fit her in. The second option was to drop her off and they’d work her in between other clients, which would stress her out even more. This was ridiculous as there was no reason the service couldn’t have been completed the day of the appointment.
I was disappointed by the store manager’s defensive and unhelpful demeanor. They showed no understanding or apology for the situation. It was made coldly clear that their groomers are trained to assess possible medical conditions and can terminate a groom based on their observations. The dog is then “referred out,” meaning they can no longer come back to Petco for grooming.
Corporate has been informed of these events, and I hope they take responsibility and ensure such situations are handled more professionally in the future.
Please be cautious when considering Petco for grooming services. This experience was distressing and inconvenient, and I hope no other pet owners have to go through something similar.

Called the store to verify merchandise before driving almost an hour. Staff was extremely helpful and even recommended additional products help my dog after an emergency surgery. They have a great selection of products and were comparable in pricing to Chewy, but I was able to get the things I needed immediately. They also offer Grooming services and host adoption events. The store is also conveniently located in a shopping center with various other businesses and restaurants.

I took my dog here today and it cost me $77.00 to have her bathed and groomed. Everything seemed fine at pick up but when I got her home I noticed that she wasn’t groomed from the collar line and up. She also was very timid and exhausted the rest of the day. My dog has been groomed before and I have never seen her this nervous after. The girl who checked me in was decent as well as the girl who called me to tell me my dog was done and very sweet. Sadly, I don’t know why my dog is so shaken up from this grooming appointment and I’m not sure why she isn’t fully bathed and groomed. $77.00 for a small breed dog seems very pricey for a job not completely done and a very nervous dog the rest of the day. Her tail is between her legs and her ears have been back since I brought her home, again I’ve never experienced this with her.

I love their new groomer Jessica she is the best around she really knows what she is doing and you can tell by the way she treats the animals that she really cares about the animals and loves her job!

The online shopping experience was easy and fast. Not only did the associates at the store have all of my items ready when I got there for pickup but they were also very pleasant to deal with. I will be a returning customer due to the overall great experience I had.
