The past several times I’ve been to this store the staff has been extremely rude. I’ve worked retail jobs and I know that customers can be annoying and the job just overall sucks but they seem to forget…. I personally didn’t ask for you to clock in today so to be met with an attitude when I’ve asked for nothing I’m simply trying to return one item is really just tasteless. You can catch the staff whispering and rolling their eyes and just being generally unpleasant just about any day. I work 3 minutes away in new town and I’d rather drive 30+ minutes and deal with the traffic on Jefferson just to go to the Ulta in Newport News where the employees are nice and seem to enjoy their job and jump at the opportunity to help you. This has happened repeatedly to me and to a couple of other people I know that are loyal ulta customers. The overall vibe in this location is very poor and to the staff members: it’s cool and feels good to be kind to strangers, please give it a try.

I saw stylist Emily and asked for my long hair to simply get a trim a long with highlight service. I ended up leaving with 6 inches of my hair cut off and layers that I didnt ask for and it doesn't flow right. The front of my hair has been butchered and the left side in the front is visibly shorter and thinner than the right. I didn't notice before I left because my chair was turned around and she gave me a blowout then curled my hair. When I got home and saw it, I cried. I drove 30 minutes back to ulta the next day and spoke with the salon manager to have it fixed and they set me up with another stylist the next day. I had an appointment set for 12:30 and went in thinking that I'd be taken back at my appointment time but I ended up sitting there waiting 45 minutes for her to have time in between her other client to work with me. I was never aware that they double booked me. That stylists fixed the heaviness but doing so caused me to lose the volume of my hair because she had to texturize it so much. I wasn't happy with the result but didn't want them to touch my hair further. I asked ulta for my money back for the haircut but they refused because I used another stylist time to fix it which I don't understand because the other stylist didn't lose money to fix it with double booking me. Their lack of respect of my time caused me to miss a later appointment that I had scheduled and I ended up having to drive back to Williamsburg 30 minutes later in the day. Ulta says that they want you to be satisfied with your hair which I don't think is true. I'm now left with butchered, uneven and thin hair. My self confidence in my hair is gone. Emily is great with color though. Beware, if you have long hair and want a trim don't go here. But if you're looking for choppy, uneven layers that you didn't ask for, this is the place to go.

As a woman over 50, I find I cannot shop at Ulta and hope or expect to get answers to cosmetic questions from this Ulta location's staff. Recent visits have brought me into contact with two very young and very male customer service representatives who had no concept of how to deal with mature skin and its issues. Very disappointing, I will not be going back.

6/30: Ryan was amazing! Very polite, helpful, and fast while helping me as I picked up products for a client. He helped me find everything on the list, and lead me to possible substitutes for the one item that was out of stock. I checked out with Dominique who was friendly, and Miranda was knowledgeable, overall everyone was very helpful.

I would give 0 stars if I could. On 3/26 ULTA emailed me a receipt for someone else's products - including some credit card and personal information. I called the store, complained and asked that ULTA deleted my store account. I didn't want them sending my personal information to another customer. The store refused to delete my account, and said they could not help me (huh?) with the incorrect receipt. Ultimately, I exchanged SIXTEEN emails with ULTA customer service and they basically lied, obfuscated, and just refused to delete my store account. My warning is - watch your personal information, ULTA CANNOT BE TRUSTED.

Went for a curly cut and didn't get that. Most curly cuts I've had in the past are done on your hair when it is curled and is more of a free form service and not a standard cut.
What I got was a standard cut and large chunks of my natural curly hair ripped out but the stylist trying to use a fine toothed comb on my damp hair. I came home with so many single strand knots and looking like a halfway groomed poodle.
If you are a curly girl don't go here. They don't know what they are doing.

A while back, my husband encouraged me to go to Ulta, even though I was putting it off - it was time again for that dreadful task of finding a shade match for a reformulated foundation. No one savors the idea of swatching endless foundations under artificial lights.
That is, unless you have Justine help you find that perfect shade for that flawless new you! As soon as I walked in, Justine greeted me and engaged with me warmly, so I felt comfortable showing her my old foundation that I had with me to help us find the perfect match.
We went through quite a few foundations by Tarte, my preferred brand because of the acne-friendly Amazonian Clay formula, swatching them next to my old Tarte foundation. Eventually, we swatched a shade on my jawline that seemed to fit exactly.
Justine encouraged me to shop, and to check myself out in the mirrors as I walked by them, to see if I felt confident that this shade was the one. I was more than happy to do so since I was looking for a few more items for my event.
I struggled with finding a subtle blush shade, and Justine did steer me in a pink direction. It’s probably a personal preference, but I enjoy a brown or peach blush with my olive and brown undertones - perhaps everyone should give brown blush a chance, and see how fun it is!
Even though Justine cautioned me that the elf Camo Liquid Blush I selected in Peach Perfect would be very pigmented (and she means PIGMENTED), I decided to go with it anyway and see what happened, as I loved the shade.
Staying in a more neutral direction, I chose the elf O Face Satin Lips Lipstick in Dirty Talk, a pleasing neutral mauve pink. Coupled with that, OPI made the cut with their nail lacquer in Dulce de Leche, a beautiful mellow brown pink.
As you can tell, I had quite the fun shopping trip, especially with Justine’s help! She did also help me select a Shape Tape concealer by Tarte, at the last minute, when I decided it was time to do a full drugstore-to-prestige upgrade. On her advice, I went a shade lighter.
Lastly, she made sure I knew that Ulta had a sixty day return policy, which I did not know about! I kept my packing and receipts just in case, and it’s a good thing that I did! After about a week of walking around in my new foundation, I could tell she wasn’t “the one.”
Since I was closer to another Ulta location that fateful day, I decided to bring my items into the Virginia Center Commons Ulta to follow up there. Please visit the listing for that Ulta for Part 2 of my foundation journey!
Now, I don’t want anyone to think that I’m disappointed in any way in Justine and her expertise. Shade matching is HARD. I still highly, highly recommend that you ask for Justine for whatever your cosmetic and skincare needs you have.

This Williamsburg location is awful. The manager on shift Tuesday at around 4pm was extremely rude & impatient. I tried to return something which I know I bought at Ulta because of my receipt and the manager kept telling me that it was not in the system even when I attempted to show her the proof on my phone. Then she proceeds to tell me to call guest services.. when we both know they cannot do anything about an in-store purchase. Went to another location and they were able to give me my money back. If you ever have an issue that is even remotely more difficult, DO NOT COME HERE!!!! Worst manager i’ve ever encountered!

Had a hair appointment at 1:00 was in my car heading to Ulta at 12:30 the day of the appointment I get a call saying I would need to reschedule due to the stylist having to go home. Customers really are not valued anymore.
So disappointing, I had a dinner date scheduled for the same evening.
Oh well… will not be scheduling anymore hair appointments at Ulta Williamsburg VA!!!!!
If I could give a zero I would?
