Dr. Barlett and Dr. Rethman are fantastic. Very knowledgeable, thorough, trustworthy, explain everything appropriately, and have access to a good network of referrals if specialty care is needed. The technicians are so personable. We’ve moved further away and I still drive 45min to take my dogs there.

Hesitant to write this but would have appreciated this prior to ever coming here.
I brought my dog here after he ingested a pair of socks. They got a few x-rays of his stomach to make sure there was no issues, and the vet said he didn’t think he saw anything in there. They also made him throw up and also didn’t find anything, and his vitals, labs and clinical exam looked good. Even though everything looked okay the vet immediately jumped to “we need to probably do an exploratory surgery and cut him open to make sure there’s not anything in there and he’ll stay here overnight on IV fluids”. I asked the vet tech who would be staying here with my dog overnight and she said “I do need to let you know that no one is here overnight and he is kept in a kennel with a cone on”. This may be how some vet clinics do things, but I have never been to one– all the places I have ever been to with my animals they sent them to a 24/7 vet hospital if they needed overnight care, or someone was there around the clock. After hearing this I was extremely concerned that my dog would be kept in a kennel all by himself in a basement of their clinic. The vet on the other hand seemed annoyed when I voiced my concerns and I felt his plan of care seemed quite extreme to me, and dismissed my suggestion of perhaps just giving sub q fluids, an antiemetic since there was nothing found on xray, he was active, his exam and vitals looked good. He actually rolled his eyes and said “subq fluids won’t do anything” and just dismissed me and my concerns regarding doing something so extreme. It wasn’t until after I said I don’t feel comfortable leaving him here over night completely alone and unsupervised that he changed his tune and changed the plan of care, gave him the sub q fluids, and an antiemetic and said I could take him home and watch him overnight.
I was already uneasy with the extreme plan of care he had but what really made me want to run out of there with my dog and go anywhere else was the unprofessional secretaries/people at the front desk. I am not sure if they thought I was hard of hearing or deaf but the bench I was sitting on was RIGHT next to them, and I know they could see me sitting there for the three hours I was there. Without fail these extremely unprofessional women spoke negatively about EVERY SINGLE PERSON that came in the door. The second the owners would leave the clinic the trash talking began. To the lady that owns the big white dog that sheds like crazy and had extremely long nails that need to be trimmed – after you left they talked about how much money you had and how you can afford for them to charge you for anything and everything they could think of so they started compiling your bill like crazy, as well as talking crap about you. They also answered the phone and was telling whoever it was that the “doctor was busy dealing with a dog that MIGHT have eaten a sock” and said it in such a rude sarcastic way as if I am making this up and was just here to waste my time, energy and money. I don’t know if they realize that I can hear EVERY LAST WORD out of their mouths but I could. I don’t think I have ever seen such unprofessionalism before and I would highly suggest that anyone seeking great veterinarian care go anywhere else.

To say that we are disappointed with this vet is an understatement, “the good” they can get you in really quick and good for simple stuff like vaccines. Now THE UGLY: If your pet has anything besides a broken nail or needs vaccinations, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. From the first time we went I didn’t feel comfortable, firs time we went bc a fever, the Dr didn’t want to run blood work bc the dog had blood work done 9 months ago ( geriatric dogs need blood work every 6 months, but he didn’t agree) but since my husband was ok with it and its “his dog” a couple of months ago we took Silox, our 11 yo Malinois that suddenly started losing his ability to use his back legs and rapidly his front legs, we had 3 visits in a matter of two weeks, in which our dog got worse and worse, I felt like I had to ask myself for things that would be very basic, anti inflammatory, pain killers etc, and many times I was the one telling what I thought it was wrong with the dog, in our second visit, I told the vet that I thought it was a neurological issue, he did some simple test, and said that it wasn’t, requested X rays and said that the hips were bad ( nothing new) and that it could be a plectra of different things, but that there was not much to do, than more than likely it was DM and that there was not a test for it ( not true, there is a genetic test to know if your pup carries the gene)so it was just palliative care from now on. We waited another week following the protocol that this vet gave us with rapid decline.I didn’t feel comfortable with that and called other vets, the first one I was able to get him in with, (not even the Dr, but the front desk person) told me that the symptoms were definitely neurological and that he needed to be referred ASAP to a neurologist, that if we wanted we could go there but wasn’t going to be of much help for my dog, we took him still bc there are some test that would be more affordable at a regular vet and I knew they needed to be done before surgery, since more than likely he was going to need spinal cord surgery. The new Dr and staff were so caring and attentive and explained every single thing in detail, checked that he was all go to go into surgery and got us appointment right away for the neurologist. At this point the vet or the clinic didn’t call a single time to check if my dog was still alive, but when I asked for his medical records to be transferred, they called 4 TIMES TO ASK WHY we were transferring our dog and seeking a second opinion, and we had to call them 3 times after to actually get the record released .Silox got his surgery 3 weeks ago, he couldn’t get surgery right away because we needed to reduce the inflammation in his spinal cord before surgery since we waited too long ( vet at this animal hospital said he didn’t need to see the neuro) as a consequence his spinal cord suffered substantial damages that could have been minimized, had the Vet here done a proper diagnosis. Silox is recovering and has a long road ahead, who know if he would ever be able to walk without assistance. I pulled all my dogs from this vet and took them to a way more knowledgeable and carrying vet in the area.

We were New to the center. First Appointment. Veterinarian Tech rude and sarcastic. Holding my dog by the throat for exam and refused to listen to my concerns. Was not helpful with questioned asked regarding care of my dog. Attempted to get some questions answered regarding my dog at front desk. Amanda who sits behind the receptionist extremely rude. Interrupted conversation with receptionist and stated sarcastically, “ You must be difficult everywhere you go.” Would not recommend if you consider your pet a family member.
