I was a bit worried about my stay here because of the bad reviews. As always the negative comments seem to have been from those hard to please. Was it a perfect place? Not really. It could use a remodel (management says its in the works). There has been a heat index of over 100 degrees here in Norfolk during my stay so the fact the ac worked was great. It was a little loud but I'm cool. The shower could stand a little more pressure for my liking but I'm clean. Everything appeared clean, no mold in the showers, bedding was clean.
If you're travelling under orders, don't sweat this place (heat index aside). I'm sure IF there is something not to your liking, let the manager know. I'm convinced she will try to help.

NEXCOM has continuously lowered standards over the years. This NGIS is just one example. In short, if you aren't required to stay here, don't, you won't get your money's worth.
To avoid a completely negative post, the location is good. It's next to the commissary, and you won't have to deal with morning traffic getting on base. The staff is friendly, but I see that as a minimum standard in the hospitality industry.
Now for the bad. When I checked in "the system was down" and i was told to come back in a few hours (i had just flown for 30hrs). Floors and furniture are disgusting, my sox were turning colors after only walking around the room a few minutes. I've stayed in open-bay barracks that were cleaner. Walls are so thin I can hear phone calls from other rooms across the hall and the staff had no issue having full on conversations in the hallway instead of going to one of their break rooms. Lots of spiders. Poor cell reception. Slow internet. No heat, a few nights my room was down to 62 degrees. On the first floor there are 2 washer and dryers for 71 rooms. Even after explaining I would be staying here for 5 weeks, I was told I can't receive mail here. Now the new policy is your room will only be cleaned once a week.
It wouldn't take much to turn this into a 1-star review. If you look at the older ones, they haven't got anything above 3-stars in over a year. Service members on orders is the only thing keeping this place afloat and I wouldn't be surprised if they're loosing money. NEXCOM needs new management.

This review is coming from someone that has lived all over the world in hotels, barracks, tents, fighting positions and sleeping on top of and inside of hmvees. This hotel to me feels like something you would stop in off the side of the interstate when on a quick road trip trying to save a buck. Hotel seems to be a slightly updated old barracks building. The AC was shut off because it was cold earlier in the week and now it’s not, but they are unable to turn the air back on. Hard to sleep in a 78 degree room. Pillows are all the same, super hard. Electrical outlets are behind the bed causing the plugs to be almost against the mattress, not very safe. Shower looks like you would make sure to wear shower shoes while using it and water will fluctuate temperature by itself throughout the shower, like someone flushes in another room and it gets hot, lol. Hard to see how they can charge so much per night when hotels out in town allow you to adjust your room temperature, have continental breakfast, pools, restaurants, bars, and the only reason it’s slightly more expensive out in town is due to taxes, the prices are almost the same.
Update for night two of the stay, it was down one degree when going to bed 77 and woke up with it at 78 degrees again!
Third night in the hotel was just as hot as the other nights. Do yourself a favor, if they say the airs off, get changed to the Navy Lodge or spend the extra to enjoy your stay out in town. No one should have to work a full day to come to a room that is hotter than it is outside to attempt to get enough sleep to do it all over again the next day.

Stay was nice. Ramp/wheelchair acces is in the rear of the building, not the front.
Left airpods in my room and when I came back to get them the front desk said none had been turned in.
When they went active we went back and despite the staff stating none had been turned in, they showed out of the case in the building. Disappointing.

Try to get to the lodge or ANYWHERE. The rooms are horrible. They only clean whenever they feel like it. The TVs just randomly shut off. The internet is stuck in 1998. You can hear everything from your room. It sounds like an earthquake anytime someone moves upstairs. Typical Navy junk rooms.

If there was a way not to give any stars at all, I would do it. Usually try to get a CNA so I can avoid this place. This last trip I had to do NGIS. The first thing you notice is that this place hasn't been updated in about 20 years, it's got the same carpet that I remember when I came here over a decade ago. Stained and disgusting on all floors. My person that cleaned my rooms didn't replace any baths towels, evidently they don't care about that sort of thing. Once I got to my room. I noticed it was really hot in there, so I went down to ask staff what we could do about it and they stated well, there's nothing we can do. The base is on steam heat until they decide to change over. And you can basically open a window and use a fan that's in the closet. The only problem was the first couple of days. It was warm outside and the breeze. Doesn't come through the window because the way they design the windows because this is an old barracks building converted to an NGIS. Also there us no screens on the windows so I ended up sleeping Witham a couple of mosquito friends. Luckily they weren't hungry. So If you stay here in the Spring and they haven't switched over to cooling yet. You might have a couple of hot nights of sweating in your bed.The cleaning lady that did the service on my floor was lacking some motivation, I found her a couple of days later sitting in a room, not doing jack squat, She must have been contemplating if she was gonna give out bath towels in that room. Okay, I'll rescind that one, maybe it was her break time. Overall, I know it's not the staff's fault as they are friendly buthave their hands tied. This system that we use for military really needs to be restarted, removed, changed. Redone from the ground up somehow.

Carpets are very dirty in the rooms with stains and grime as well as the arm chair. Room is spacious with a nice desk. Bathroom is ok. They have a small laundry room but it was always in use no matter what time of day.

No mailroom. I ordered a package to the hotel, a few hours after it arrived I went to pick it up, but the lady at the front desk said they had no mailroom, and the package was returned to the mailing address... No call, no text, nothing. At least notify someone before you ruin their day.

Highly disappointed during my visit. As to protect the identities of the employees involved please direct me to a manager or customer service line. I am appalled at my treatment during this visit. I will no longer make any reservations here.

the people that work here hate you and their life. if you ask them for something thats within the scope of their job or you interact with them at all the majority of them acts like you are a burden and they don't want to speak to you. the worst service of any hotel existing

1st night we get to the room, was told the couch was a pull out, it was not. 2nd day not so bad, they got us a rollaway bed and finally extra blankets. It all went down hill on the 3rd day. Zero hot water, hotels only response is there is no maintenance and "I check the water and it gets warm just not hot so it's the building" no offer to call someone or anything. And for 140$ a night you would expect to have hot water at the very least. Won't be returning! You will be better off staying off base elsewhere.

Room service was great but I could not connect to the internet and had almost no cell service with Verizon. Also I found hotdog buns under my chair after being here for a couple days. I did not have hotdogs….

Absolutely terrible. Above all my bed was filled with bugs (more than I can count) and stained sheets... i ended up changing rooms thankfully. The AC for the base hasn't been turned on yet (early April even tho it was in the high 80s) so the rooms were equipped with with a fan which just blew around the excessive dust. Everytime I was in my room I was coughing excessively. The only elevator was broken. Dead spiders in the curtains. Internet is garbage.Makes no sense that the regulations require servicemembers to stay here solely because it's available with these unacceptable conditions even tho its the dance price out in town. The one star is soley for the accommodating staff but I've stayed in better motels.

Terrible. Rooms do not have AC when it's 80 degrees out. Roaches in the rooms.
