Julia and the Mermaid Factory are hands down one of the most unique and fun places to live out your creativity with family and friends or feeling some art love. We brought 8 girls and it was a blast! They also do to go boxes which was so fun for a summer or rainy day!

Had a great time! Lots of fun and so many choices of accessories to choose from to decorate your creation. Julia is a wonderful host, no rushing lots of encouragement! Definitely give this a try but keep in mind it may look simple but you easily need a couple of hours for the fun.

We were there yesterday as the weather in VA Beach was not cooperating. My friend and I painted and decorated octopus under the instruction of the amazing artist who was working. We were there close to four hours and had a great time! We will be back next year for sure!!

Vanessa made this place FIVE STARS PLUS! From the moment I walked in, you felt at ease with her outgoing and kind personality. I walked in and she was setting up a party of Moms and kids and she made every child feel special acknowledging them and engaging them. She is a ROCK STAR and deserves every raise/bonus, every wonderful thing in life. ❣️ In a world where parents are glued to their devices vs their kids, it was outstanding she asked each little person their name and she repeated their names with compliments on how it was such a nice name, etc. and made them feel extra special by asking them to kindly spell it. Either she is a teacher or is the best person to be with children. Throughout the demo and set up, she gave excellent instructions and guidance and every so often, she asked the children their opinion and truly gave them her individual attention; she made my heart melt. We need more Vanessa's in this world!! Bravo, job well done!!?
This is not my first time in the mermaid factory. It's absolutely my favorite place to go when I want to paint and make something really creative. I have painter mermaids for every season and today I introduced the next generation of my family with the mermaid ornaments. I spent the morning with my daughter and my precious 3-year-old granddaughter and we painted the ornaments and it was so cute to watch her paint a blue shark because Daddy's favorite color is blue for him to have a Christmas ? shark ornament on the tree. I mean, it's Christmas and we need a Christmas shark?
The store is beautiful. Almost everything you see is for sale, including items the staff have painted beautifully. I ended up buying a little trinket while there. I am very creative and this is right up my alley and I'm so thankful that I was introduced to this over a decade ago.
Lastly, if you don't know, you can host your girl's night out or bachelorette parties there and bring your own wine and hors d'oeuvres, party decor....bells and whistles as well as children's birthday parties. I've seen tons of children's birthday parties there and the kids LOVE IT.

My girls had a great time and a great break from the sun at mermaid factory. I was surprised at the end that they boxed up the mermaid and the dolphin so nicely. Paint, glitter, and a stand come as part of the $6 studio fee. The standard dolphin/ mermaid plaster items were $22.
The seasonal shapes are more expensive and not all available, and a small collection of charms are extra.
The space was clean and well-lit, and the woman who greeted us and helped facilitate everyone’s projects was super nice and kept things flowing even when it got fairly busy.
It would be a little better with more charm choices (the music note my daughter liked was sold out, and the pink glitter another girl wanted to use was apparently all out), but it was a reasonably priced activity and all the costs were clearly communicated.
We just walked in and were alone at first. By the time we left, a birthday party of about 4 kids and a few family groups and a few parent/child pairs had come in. We didn’t need a reservation but it was definitely busy!

I will say it ended nicely. They want you to make a reservation, which is fine, but then you expect to have options and when we got there, options were VERY minimal. I feel like they should let you know this at time of reservation. One of the staff members basically yelled at me because I picked up the last of an item when "it was meant for" another guest. Even after that guest had it I their hand, and put it back on the shelf and walked away from it! Then proceeded to make comments about it and talk to other staff members about me. I offered it to the other guest and they declined. So ok, move on! I assume that persons shift ended because the next employee that came in was super friendly and helpful!
Cute set up in there, cute sea and mermaid items for all ages to purchase as well. I thought the price was comparable to other places you would go to paint a project or canvas. It got us out of the sun and heat for a bit and let us be creative, my girls loved all the fun little add ons you can do!
All in all it was good.

My family and I stopped in during our vacation in VB, and the kids had so much fun picking out their sculptures and decorating them. The lady working was very nice and explained everything thoroughly. She was attentive and patient with the kids. There are also many beautiful sculptures already painted/decorated so purchase. Only downside is, personally, I think it is a bit on the pricey side.
