I can’t thank the team at Hilltop Vet enough. They’re thorough, affordable, and you can tell they genuinely care about the work they do - on top of the fact that they’re always quick to refill a prescription, return a call or get you in quickly for an appointment. Recently I had an emergency with my dog and they also showed me that they weren’t just thinking of her immediate health, but long-term health. Thank you thank you thank you!

We have been taking our dog to Hilltop Vet for years and she always gets great care. She's a senior dog now and has some serious issues. They have responded as a team with just the best and most personal attention and care.
Thanks so much to every single person at Hilltop Vet, everyone has been fantastic.
I see how this stuff is really tough on everyone and I appreciate what you do!

I switched to this vet after 15 years at another vet in town. It is farther away from my house but the care they give my 2.5 year old dog is awesome and the compassion they showed me when it was time to say goodbye to my 16 year old dog was amazing.I started going on an emergency visit and have continued for the past 2 years and have even had other family members move their pets to Hilltop Vet’s care. Thank you for all you do.

Switching to Owl Creek after the worst experience here today. Refused to be seen with my dog based on the 10 min late policy when I arrived 9 minutes past start of appointment. And they tried to bill me a cancellation fee as I am standing there waiting with my dog.
Here are the facts about my experience with this clinic today. My appointment was at 11:30 AM and I was on the phone with the front desk at 11:37 AM. I informed the woman that I was at the light three blocks away and then I should be there within a minute to two max. I arrived at the parking lot at 11:39 and sprinted inside the office. At that point one of the woman at the front desk (I believe she is a vet tech) went back to find the vet and returned two minutes later. That took the time to 11:41 AM. She proceeded to inform me that I could not be seen with my dog today because I was 11 minutes late. I was astonished and extremely upset. I had literally spoken to her on the phone 3 blocks away and explained the traffic light situation (which is absurd trying to take a left off First Colonial with all of the construction there...) and she explicitly okay'd this. I arrive when I said I would and I am told to go away but first to pay a cancellation fee. It was such a horrible experience I feel compelled to share my story. I am still upset about it 10 hours later. Will not be returning and honestly, I would like an apology.

Our pets have been coming here for a few years and have had surgeries and elderly care for one of them and has been overall a pretty great experience until recently with only one of their veterinarians Dr. Vu, however, he has been so bad recommending surgeries so soon after other surgeries on the exact same things which we were told by other doctors would not be needed and implying that they were incompetent and didn’t do the surgery well has left such a bad taste in our mouth. I don’t think we are coming back. We have even recommended to friends to come here and they have seen Dr. Vu and have had similar experiences and aren’t coming back as well. Which is very unfortunate because we do love our other doctors but as having a senior pet, we can’t risk having an emergency and them seeing him. It’s already at the higher end of cost for veterinary care in Virginia Beach and with that type of care we have a received from him, It is definitely not worth the cost.
An edit to this post I had an appointment for bloodwork for my dog today and a pre-surgical visit was confirmed via text with the veterinarian, I show up and the surgeon Isn’t there and there’s no one else that can see our pet except dr. vu which is obviously is not ok. They did not confirm the surgeon would be in, and they even said it was their mistake. Hilltop vet staff made no attempt to remedy it in any way. Then I asked if our other dog could get his nails trimmed and they only did the back even though they’ve done the front and back before and they said some dogs can’t handle it. I said I usually come back to the room to hold him and they said no. What kind of vet can’t even do simple nail trims especially when the remedy is letting me back to help and they denied. So we will no longer be using their services and I feel like nobody should . It’s really sad because before Vu, they used to be really good. You and your pets deserve better!

I have been going to this vet for the last 5 years & will be looking for a new vet soon. My GSD loved going to the vet that every time we pulled up, he would get so excited & energetic. He loved the previous vets & had no issues with them - it was so easy to draw blood, for them to do the physical exam, etc. However, early 2023, he began to not act this way anymore. They said it was difficult to do his heart worm test, so they postponed. They recommended trazodone for his next visit later in the year. I said that wasn’t necessary. I found it very strange how Thor changed his attitude after they walked him back to me. The next few visits (since he was due for some shots), they were able to take his blood but attempted to pressure me to buy trazodone by making a statement that they’ll include it in the bill. I again declined. The recent visit a few weeks ago was the last straw that broke the camel’s back. I called to schedule his annual checkup & asked how much the bill would be with the heart guard medication. It came out to $175. The day of the appointment, they told me he needed more things done (I checked what he’s due on the portal, & her didn’t need until extra things). This doubled the initial price they told me the week before. During the visit, they allowed me to go back in the room with him this time. The tech casually told me that they muzzled him multiple times last year during his appointments & then tried to change the subject b/c I was in shock. No one asked nor told me they did this to him. It makes me wonder what else they could have done to him or how rough they treated him when they didn’t allow me to go in the back with him. When the veterinarian came in with the tech, he was so afraid of the people to the point where he tried to hide under the chair or hide in the corner of the room. This was a side of him I never saw b/c he loves anyone that will give him attention - he’s a huge baby. I was able to calm him, so the vets were able to draw blood & give his shots. After this appointment, I cannot bring him back. Something was not right, & the fact that they treated him like this baffled me. Although our fur babies cannot talk, trust their interactions & them. There’s no reason for Thor to be so afraid of the vet. I drop him off are the groomers & previous vet, & he happily goes with them & forgets about me. He always receives compliments about how easy & well behaved he is.

Had a great time taking my stray cat (now pet) to the Vet here today.
Tech was super duper friendly, answered my questions, was very thorough yet quick! She was so gentle and kind with my animal, as well.
Vet was also thorough and quick as well. Very sweet and was so good with my cat.
They answered all my questions, gave the cat some treats, and even sent me home with some treats, as well. Also got me a free sample of some tick prevention.
Pricing was extremely fair.
I absolutely loved my experience here, and so did my cat! My cat felt right at home! Definitely looking forward to coming back! Great staff, great care!

Dr. Vu and staff were very compassionate and patient in providing explanations. Really helped my wife and I achieve a sense of closure after our dog of 11 years suddenly passed, which we could not be more grateful for.

Horrible customer service. Poor record keeping. Long wait times. Vets are nice enough but otherwise, do not recommend!

I cannot thank Dr. Jessie and the staff here at hilltop veterinary enough. They have helped me through so much and have taken great care of all of my pets. (Sasuke, Haku & Hazel!) They never complain when I have thousands of questions because I am an anxious Mama! If I could give them 100 stars I would.
Kind, professional and understanding.

Truly the best team out there. They went above and beyond for my sometimes reactive dog and put not only him at ease but myself too. We appreciate you more than you know. From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU!

Dr. Vu and the entire staff are knowledgeable, patient and caring. Can't recommend someone more to care for your fur baby.
