Did a parents night out and the staff was amazing. Erica was super positive and made us feel totally secure in leaving our kids in care. Great great great staff!

Very disappointed in the attitude of the new staff at the front desk as of February 2024. Either you like your job, respect your clients or find another job.

What was supposed to be a positive, enriching summer camp experience for my 5-year-old grandson turned out to be a nightmare. After 2 voicemails to the summer camp coordinator, a hand-written note to her from a nice front desk staff member who was empathetic, a text and a phone call to her from another staff member asking her to call me, and a voice mail to the executive director, I have yet to receive a return call. (I started calling 4 AUG.)My grandson was teased about his disfigured hand by another camper, and she enlisted several other campers to "not be friends with him or talk to him" because of his difference. To see a bright-eyed, innocent child who was so eager to attend camp with such enthusiasm be reduced to an inconsolable, sobbing, sad child at the mere mention of camp is heart-wrenching. He was supposed to attend camp all summer, but he has not been back since the end of July. He has learned how to handle bullies and their comments, but this time his strategies did not work. I simply wanted to let the summer camp coordinator and/or the Director know that the campers (and this girl's parents) might need a talk about diversity and acceptance.

Staff at the front desk and instructors are amazing! But .. I had one bad experience with child care. I have given child care permission to change my daughter. Before I left for the pool , I told child care that she has pants, new underwear and shoes if she has an accident, I also explained my 3 yr old can't climb an adult toilet unassisted. Instead of calling me , the child care worker had my daughter in wet pants, shoes, making her WALK through the facility in urine. Through the women's locker room and to the pool and l was left with her. " bring her back if you want ". And leaves me sopping wet trying to help my child. Literally hands me my child and darts off from the locker room with out her "accident bag" with change of pants ,etc. .I had to carry my child out of the facility ( I had back surgery, the reason im even at the YMCA), my daughter half wrapped in a wet towel , barefoot and I had to go back the next day to get her " accident bag" that should have been used to change her or given to me in the locker room.

Facility is not bad but child care is unsatisfactory. Small room and employees don’t interact with the children

Hilltop is the worst YMCA in South Hampton Roads. The workout area is very small and cramped and you constantly are being run over by the elderly crowd. Seriously - if you are over 10 or under 55, you do not belong.

I don't have a lot to say about this Y other than I'm disappointed. Not in the awesome staff but in the leadership that has failed and underserved this affluent area of Virginia Beach. This location is known as the geriatric YMCA as many members are retired and older. What is really needed is most likely not in the budget. They need significant upgrades, or best yet a complete new build out and expansion serving the Hilltop community. Parking is often an issue close, but there is a nearby lot. Most of my experience is with their five lane pool. It's maintained to minimum standards. Guards are on duty. They keep the deck for the most part clean. The chlorine is kept at correct levels when I have been there. It's just old and outdated. Hampton Roads has a severe pool shortage, so this is better than nothing. The locker rooms severely lack basics. This location does offer considerable green space which is unique. They have soccer and other youth sports for daycare. During the Summer the fiend is very active with programing. I hope that 2020 brings plans to do something with the Hilltop YMCA. There is a lot of competition that does the exact same thing in the general area. They need to act on doing anything to help this center. 2.5 rounding down.

Come check it out. While much smaller than some of the other local YMCA locations, the Hilltop Family YMCA still has plenty to offer. They have a spin room with about 11 bikes, and they plan to upgrade the room to accommodate MyZone tracking in the near future. The cardio weight room is intimate but never felt overcrowded. This location has one room for the treadmills, ellipticals, cardio equipment and weight equipment. There is one stair stepper machine. The have a room dedicated to physical therapy type exercises. There is a gym. There is one room for the classes like Zumba, yoga, boot camp, stretch & tone etc. you may also enjoy the sauna or heated pool. This location seems to be very much kid and family oriented which I think many will like. I definitely think this because there are several rooms/spaces dedicated to the youth. Women's locker room in ever visit. Frank at the front was really helpful and full of information. I am grateful for his insight and the helpful information shared. Unlike most stand alone YMCA's this one exists in a shopping center. No cafe or juice bar inside. But food, juice bars, clean eats and Coffee bars are located in the shopping center.

Been going here for two years. Staff is friendly and helpful. They have made improvements and updates during this span as well, so the facilities are up to par. The family loves coming here.
