My kids and I have been training here for the last six months. Everyone loves it. The kids classes are excellent and both kids come away tired and happy. I have been attending the noon classes on weekdays. I have learned a ton, met some new friends and my fitness has never been better.

Four months in and really enjoying my time here. Walking into a new martial arts gym not knowing anyone can be difficult, but the people have been super welcoming and open to a newbie, the instructors are fantastic, and the facility has a large training mat that gives everyone plenty of space. I'm getting back into shape and really enjoy the training.

Did a drop in last week as I was traveling for work and had a very warm welcome from the team and all the members. Technique is high quality and learned some details that I'll be incorporating into my game just from one day.I highly recommend this place if you live in the area and want high quality BJJ technique and team members to roll with!

This is a great gym for self-defense or competition for young and skillful guys - but its surprisingly welcoming for the old men who like to roll too. I'm 58 and the instructors are incredibly skillful and patient in fitting their instruction to my needs and limitations. If you want to learn sport jiu jitsu or self-defense - or if you want to compete at the highest levels, I don't think you can find a better gym. I have tried other BJJ gyms in the DMS area and this is the best.

I cannot say enough about the academy, the students, or the instructors; everyone is fantastic. The instructors are smart, dedicated, patient, and supportive. The students are eager, friendly, and encouraging. This type of environment, in my opinion, is hard to find at any type of school anywhere. By way of background, I'm 47 and brand new to BJJ - I was a little nervous walking through the door, but, read above. Everyone works hard, but everyone supports each other. Great place.

Abmar Barbosa Jiu Jitsu Academy continues to set itself apart from other gyms in the area. The instructors, the level of training, and the family feel of this gym is really what sets it apart. I would highly recommend this gym to anyone who is looking to get started in the sport.

Consistent, clean, and professional gym. Outstanding and personable staff. Great for beginners and advanced grapplers from all walks of life. I would recommend this gym to anyone that wants to up their Jiu Jitsu game. I primarily attend Davids 6:30 class which not only teaches you great and effective techniques but gives you an understanding of the fundamentals, body control, weight distribution, head placement etc. I also have only great things to say about garrets(aka Vaji) noon class, understandable explanations of technical submissions and very fun no gi Friday classes.

I have been coming to ABJJA for about a year now and ever since my first class I’ve been hooked. The instructors are very knowledgeable and helpful, and the gym has a great community where everyone is looking to improve and grow together. Cannot recommend this place enough!

I started my BJJ journey about 6 months ago and I'm glad I did, but before embarking, I wanted do the proper amount of academy research. After reading other student's reviews about the Abmar Barbosa Jiu-Jitsu Academy it was clear that this was THE place. Each student and instructor are there to support you, push you, and help you grow. You are never alone. Instructor David makes each class as simple as possible and he will be quick to hammer away at the 'why' behind each position and scenario. Come train at Abmar's, nuff said.
