Adopted a kitten from FCSPCA and it was a great experience. It's clear the staff and volunteers care for each animal that comes through the shelter. She wasn't spayed yet so we went through their foster to adopt program. The shelter manager is incredibly pleasant and easy to work with when scheduling a time to come in to update necessary shots and spaying. Their vet (or tech, I'm not sure) is passionate and kind. I highly recommend working with them for your next pet and supporting their efforts however you can.

Zero compassion, rude, and will make you feel like pure crap. The animal care worker Wen I believe her name is couldn't have been any more of a pure bred know it all jerk. I rescued a dog whose owner had passed away shortly after he began to lose weight rapidly. Between food, meds and vet appointments I no longer could afford to care for this dog. I chose to take this dog to the vet and not pay my electric and now have a disconnect notice. I brought my dog in for a follow up appointment and the vet informed me that he will possibly need some very costly treatment because she believed he had an issue with his pancreas which has caused a ton of weight loss and he can't gain. I made the very hard decision to surrender him so a rescue or someone who can afford to give him a long full life can get him the care he needs. A choice that was not made easily but as a single parent I chose to lose a loved family member so he can live a good life And get the care he needs. The vet called around and asked if I was okay with him going to the spca. I was hesitant but figured they would be better than no care at all. I arrived at fluvanna spca and immediately received disgusted looks. Wen had Many smart remarks on the dogs weight and how he was not fixed. Even after explaining that the vet believed that he had a pancreas issue which is why he was not gaining she still made me feel like I was a horrible person for not Being able to care for him. I informed them I have been giving him access to food ALL DAY as instructed by the vet and he would immediately have to use the bathroom. While I was filling out the surrender paperwork she came back out to inform me she fed him and he was starving. After I informed her he will eat all day long and still acts as if he was starving. I surrendered him so he can get medical care that I could not provide at this moment. I did not surrender him to be made to feel like I was a horrible person who wasn't caring for my pet. Fluvanna SPCA has always been a crappy place but come on do better. Hop off of your high horse and realize some of us have real life problems And life happens.

It is one of the best volunteer experiences (dog walker, cat visits, etc.) ever in my 25 years of volunteering in multiple states. They love and protect the animals there and make sure they get adopted to the right homes for them. They're looking out for the dogs and cats and the people hoping to add to their family. The staff is personable and genuinely appreciate their volunteers. I applied, and when ready, I started on my first visit. They're professional but informal, and they'll appreciate you unlike other area operations. Please get out to this shelter and see what you can do to help. The animals are gorgeous, healthy, and great, and they'll love you for it.

I have been volunteering here for a few weeks and staff is very friendly. They care about the animals and they respect volunteers. I am also fostering to adopt a dog from them. If you want to help a rural shelter, consider volunteering with them.

Visited the kittens/cats today at this shelter. Cats show signs of neglect by staff. One cat had severe diarrhea. A kitten has a pretty bad eye infection. There’s a lack of attention paid to these poor animals and it’s sad. Other cats appear to be sickly and neglected too. I hope no one adopts from here and that these animals can be moved to another facility. Staff doesn’t seem to know any information or ages associated with any animals. These animals would have been better off fending for themselves instead of being thrown into cages to slowly die from infections and neglect.

The staff here are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and truly care for the animals. We weren't expecting to meet our perfect companion and take him home the same day of our visit, but fell in love with a sweet brindle boy...and well, you know how it goes :) They provided us with a crate to borrow, enough food for a few days and even some shampoo so we could give him a bath. Highly recommend if you are looking to foster/adopt.

Amazingly sweet staff. They bring prospect animals to you in the waiting room, and the front door is locked to keep everyone safe. Awesome place to adopt from!
