Vets are okay with decent prices! However neither of them can write, why even give me a paper with instructions and what happened in the office if I cant read it!?! Older white lady at the desk must hate her job, constantly sighing and complaining. However the younger one is super sweet and helpful! Only bad experiences with the older lady at the desk. The after hours Answering service is wack though. What is the point of paying someone to answer the phone to tell us they cant help us. I asked if I should take my animal to the vet and she said "I cant give you any medical advice." My husband called today (5/17/24 @6pm) asking how much for the heart-worm prevention, lady stated that she did not know and does not get paid enough to answer for the vet. That is literally your job, what the fuck?

Toano Animal Clinic veterinarians and staff are amazing! I have had animals my entire life and that's a long time and this is the best clinic I have ever been to!! Dr. Averitt literally saved my 2-year-old basset hounds life in an impossible situation where she had to extract 28 kidney stones, and reroute his urinary system, in a highly complicated and long emergency surgery that not only saved him but will potentially prevent this crisis from recurring!! Not only did they save him but he is thriving!!!Also, their fees are very very reasonable!!!Choose Toano Animal Clinic you won't regret it!!!

Dr. Averitt and staff are great with my dogs even though they can be difficult to handle. We've spent 17k health testing dozens of dogs in their clinic and will continue to health test our dogs there for as long as they'll let us. See you next week!

Me and my wife recently separated, and I took our fur son. Which had been with me every day all day for 8yrs I'm disabled. But instead of this vet staying out of our business She decided not to fill anymore. even though he had 5 refills just added before I left. she canceled the refills, on my dogs pills which he takes for seizures. That is how Nasty of ppl they are instead of putting the animals health first they decided to pick a side. So just know that they will do this to u if they are doing it to me. TAKE YOUR ANIMALS ANYWHERE BUT HERE.

I don't usually write reviews for businesses; however, I was surfing the net and found these reviews concerning Toano Animal Clinic (TAC). Therefore, I decided it was time for me to comment. We have been taking our dogs to Dr. Averitt for over 20 years. We have always been pleased with the care our dogs have received. There have been several times when we have had an emergency after hours and Dr. Averitt has either stayed late or met us at the clinic to care for our pet. For instance, one night, one of my dogs had a nosebleed. Knowing TAC was closed, I called several clinics advertising emergency services to no avail. I called TAC answering services in hopes of getting help. The service called Dr. Averitt who told us she would meet us at her clinic. She spent several hours with our dog, we even discussed blood transfusions. Unfortunately, after performing surgery it was discussed she had a nasal tumor, and we chose euthanasia. On other occassions, when she had concerns outside of her knowledge base, she has either researched the issue, contacted Virginia Tech or the University of Tennessee Vet Schools, or referred our pet to speciality veternarians (opthalmology, cardiology and allergists). I am sorry that some are not pleased with the services, and I am wondering if you discussed your concerns with Dr. Averitt. I know she would be upset and rectify these issues if she were made aware. Dr. Averitt is a very compassionate and professional vet. We have always found Dr. Averitt and her team to be very receptive to concerns, sending pets for specialty services, up to date and less expensive treatments, offering help to the car, home visits, and reasonable prices. If you are looking for a vet that has a fancy waiting room or offices, Dr. Averitt is not the vet for your pet. However, if you are looking for compassion, professionalism, and up to date care TAC is the right place for your pet.

It was a true displeasure to visit this practice today. As a third-party to the situation, I was solely there to help a friend and his owner. The doctor came into the exam room quickly, although I suspect it was only because she wanted to get the client in and out. Dr. Averitt’s explanation of the patient’s symptoms and diagnosis seemed to be purposefully convoluted. I have been in exam room situations exactly like this one, with such tension you could cut it with a knife. I did NOT inform the doctor that I am an experienced vet tech, passionate in this field, at a private practice in this exact locale for over 6 years (because that’s annoying, right?). Safe to say I’m well-versed in reading the room between a doctor and a client they don’t want to deal with. I assessed the situation, remained silent, but asked one very simple question to which, had the veterinarian known the question was from a knowledgeable point-of-view, would’ve been entirely different but Dr. Averitt’s response was belittling at best. I don’t disagree Averitt’s treatment plan was “appropriate”, but I do feel that Dex + Convenia injections are the easiest path for a doctor who would openly state ‘I don’t try to make them live forever’. The Convenia injection is based on weight and the doctor frantically searched for the patients latest weight AFTER the injection had already been given. Is it not standard veterinary procedure to check weights prior to prescribing weight-based medications? But that would be silly to ask when the owner needed to remind the doctor to check BOTH EARS when ruling in or out vestibular disease. What really bothered me is that the doctors feelings towards her client trickled throughout her staff members because not a single Toano Animal Clinic employee offered to help me, a 5’9 woman, carry a 90+ lb., albeit limp, lame, and deadweight ADR patient out of the clinic by myself. Not a single staff member offered to grab or hold a door for me, a vet med girlie myself? No one offered to assist their patient in getting back to the vehicle safely?? My 8 year old was the most help I had, although my child might actually have more veterinary experience than Toano’s current payroll. I was honestly appalled by the veterinarians attitude plus her staffs inhospitable approach to say the least. It’s clear Averitt’s team decides who they give compassion and respect to (OR NOT) based on the doctors attitude towards certain individuals. When my friends owner was honest about money being an issue, Averitt’s response was “OH, I KNOW”. Incredibly insensitive given how difficult it is to live comfortably these days, a struggle true vet med staff can understand (and a reason to get out while you still can). I will wholeheartedly stand beside my reasoning to not recommend this particular practice to the members of this community who DO have money. After hearing what other practices AND bad reviews/lost clients in the area have to say about this clinic, I will 100 out of 100 NOT recommend. I was just a bystander to this clinic today and this is how my friend, my dog friend, my child, and I were treated today. I was just there to help.

We put out dogs in for boarding Saturday for one night and advised them that we would be picking up our dogs on Sunday, they informed us that we could pick the dogs up at 8am or 5pm and the fee would be 15 dollars additional to the cost of the boarding we told them 5pm would be good. We showed up at 4:30pm on Sunday and waited in the parking lot until 5:15 but no show we then call the answering service they had no luck getting in touch with anyone that was on call. Makes me wonder how well they take care of dogs on weekends while they are in boarding, they are obviously not taking them out to use the restroom and probably haven't even given them food for the day. We will be back tomorrow to pick our dogs up and retrieve their medical records so we can try another veterinarian. If you care anything about your pet's well-being, don't bring them here.

Worst place imaginable! I've never experienced such horrible and rude people in all my life! That's not how you speak to people and patients. Anyone working with the public should have decent people skills and not talk so horribly to people. The older front desk lady and the veterinarian both are just awful people with no respect or human decency whatsoever these people do not care about animals at all and their job is very obviously just a paycheck to them. If you want to be treated with decency and respect i highly suggest you find another vet to go see because this place is very unprofessional, unorganized, they do not know what they are doing and talk to and treat patients like trash. Absolve worst animal clinic I've ever set foot into. Zero stars.

*BEWARE* I would not recommend going to this vet they are very rude and very disrespectful and awful people and for them to treat their clients like garbage just imagine how they treat your fur babies! I will not be bringing my pets here ever!

i dropped my dog off at 8 am for a spay and a few yearly things to be done. i called them around 3 pm to check on my dog because i had not heard from them, they proceeded to tell me that they had not done my dog's surgery because there were emergencies that came in ( i have worked at vet offices/clinics as well as many other doctors offices ) whenever we had an emergency pt we would fit them into our scheduled patients! i am very disappointed in toano animal clinic for not contacting me to come get my dog after them knowing they wouldn't be able to complete her surgery, letting her stay in a kennel all day and did not give her any food after she had gone npo since 10 pm the night before. as for the lady at the front desk who was extremely rude after i apologized for being upset on the phone with her yelling across the office saying i was not allowed to reschedule and throwing my dogs leash at me was totally uncalled for.
