Shea has the best wood in the business. Some really incredible figure and incredible attention to detail. Makes sure the highest quality goes out to his customers would never worry about the wood that comes from him. Lucky to have him doing this!

I’ve ordered lumber from Shea a few times now and I’m always impressed by the quality of product and the level of customer service Alexander Brothers provides. I don’t live near their lumber yard — which may be a good thing for my bank account — but Shea has always been extremely helpful picking out the best boards for my projects and even breaking them down into manageable sizes based on my needs for reasonable shipping. Shea is an incredible furniture maker with a wealth of knowledge about his material. He always knows exactly what I’m looking for and has been able to source better material than I can find locally for a lower price — even with shipping included. I’ve been impressed with every purchase I’ve made from them and I will continue to order from them in the future.

This was my first purchase and I couldn’t be happier with it! The quality is first-rate, and my package arrived much more quickly than I was expecting! I learned that ordering online from them is as easy as being there with them! Awesome service, great guys, and old school honesty! I WILL be back!

I bought some wood from them online. I saw it in a Facebook group and fell in love with it. Shea was very friendly and quickly responded to all of my inquiries. He sent me pictures of the wood he was going to send me before I bought it. I paid and received the wood by UPS about 8 days later. It was exactly what was promised and I would definitely buy from them again!

This was my first time buying from them, but Shea hand-picked a board for me with super straight grain for riving chair legs. The wood arrived remarkably quickly and was sensibly packaged. Ordering was really easy and I’m happy with what they sent. The price of the wood and shipping was super reasonable and I will definitely be ordering from them again!

It isn't often that I get an instant feeling of comfort and security from businesses that I find online, but with Alexander Brothers, that was the case from moment one - and for a handful of reasons. Communication was key: not only are these guys transparent with their pricing and business practices; they're also responsive with questions - and I appreciate their use of social media to proactively tell their story without being too slick, commercial, and transactional.
Between this storytelling and references from other folks I know who have worked with Shea, I felt confident in giving Alexander Bros. my business - and from inquiry and order to shipping and receipt, every part of the experience was as I hoped. I wish I could simply drive to their shop, but for times when I need lumber shipped, I'll be back -- and in the meantime I'll look forward to keeping in touch.

Shea crafted our kitchen countertops, and we couldn’t be more pleased with them! They are absolutely beautiful! He was extremely helpful and responded quickly to my questions. My husband and I are very happy customers!

I have bought lumber up and down the east coast from New York to North Carolina and this is by far my favorite! Shea and his family are great people that go above and beyond. As a furniture maker himself, he gets what we are looking for and is also generous with his time, often offering suggestions and tips for getting your project to turn out great. There are several places closer to me that I could go to, but for me driving the 3 hours is well worth it.

June 19, 2024 - I’d like to offer a toast , hold up your wood chisel . . . “Here’s to the start of a long adventure with the Alexander Brother’s ( especially Shea) !”
My wife & I stopped in for “ a peak & buy” of their hardwood selections! We’re new to VA, just moved from Maine. A friend gave us a tip, try Alexander Brother’s Lumber! Bingo !
I met Shea at his workshop, he introduced himself and some of his finished woodworking gems. WOW, his finished Red Elm chair with the carved insert was fantastic! ( photo) After mentioning a variety of opportunities in different woodworking groups in the area, Shea took us up the hill to his lumber yard.
The Lumberyard shed is gigantic! Some of their supply is from local cut trees in the area, and some individual “ finds” from area friends & dealers the sell specialty trees! As I walked through their wood collections I noticed walnut both kiln dried & dye colored, and some natural ! Shea explained the difference of commercial walnut & natural walnut. I purchased the natural Walnut!
I also noticed different types of maple. Shea described Ambrosia Maple ? which I found fascinating! A beetle seeks out a fungus in the maple, as it moves through the tree digesting the bug, the surrounding wood’s color is changed creating a new unique color pattern. I purchased the Ambrosia Maple!
As we talked about buying several woodworking machines & tools . . . Shea mentioned local connections! It’s great to find a contact with so much experience & knowledge of woodworking ! Maybe next time I pop in. . . we might come across some Elm lumber for my next project? ???
