She was incredibly helpful in booking my appointment and addressing all of my medical concerns. The exceptional assistance and warm demeanor provided by the MEDICARE Family Practice front office staff, especially Mrs. Debbie she is caring and addressed my medical concerns precisely. Thank you

i've been going here for years, mostly out of convenience, but i've had some truly terrible experiences with Dr. Southall. I am an overweight woman, and I am completely aware of how that affects my life--I am not stupid. However, when it is brought up in condescendingly when the matter we're discussing has nothing to do with my weight, I can't help but feel insulted. During my most recent visit, I went for a follow-up on how my medicine (Lexapro) was treating me. I gave him the pros and cons and he gave me a diagnosis and prescribed me seizure medicine. now, here's when the problem comes in. him telling me i need to lose weight didn't bother me, but after telling him some personal things regarding the diagnosis, he said, and i quote "can i be frank with you?" so I said yes, expecting him to be professional because he is a doctor and I've seen him since I was young. he said, "If you weighed less, about 115 pounds, you'd have less trouble with men, is that too harsh?" I am a 16 year old girl, but saying this to any patient is extremely unprofessional under many circumstances. It is already hard to be treated in the medical industry already if you're even slightly over the average weight, and it's even harder if you're younger, but my weight and "men troubles" had absolutely nothing to do with this follow-up and inputting your personal opinions and societal expectations on a patient, especially a young girl, is very upsetting and needless to say, I will be going somewhere else. I was very respectful and did nothing to deserve that treatment. I thought I'd warn others about this, because the inconsideration and immaturity from a licensed doctor is genuinely astonishing and I was shocked to hear that comment.

Just left this doctor and went elsewhere. I’ve been going here since I was a child, and have come to the determination that the only thing this place does, is makes a lab rat out of their patients.

So when trying to work complicated diagnosis, the doctors are trying however the treatment is not cutting edge so pain maybe long term and insufferable. If you try to actively participate in your care and push for specialty care, you can be denied the referral. The pharmacy protocol is antiquated and can be an issue if you have allergies or diabetes and need cardiac or kidney protection. But the doctors are pleasant. The medical record customer service is seriously lacking and if you want to see your records or request an estimate, they will say that they did not hear that and they already did the research and copied it. Why would I agree with that when I dont know what or how much was in the last 4 visits. So when they were sent an official request from dr office to dr office, why did they feel the need to call me about it? I have no idea what a dr office is requesting from another dr office. They need to talk to that dr office and see what they are requesting. She stated that she would not call the requesting dr. They also say they won't fax or use discs or any technology so this delays requests as well. The medical record office needs to answer their requests and stop harrassing the customer who is the patient. Btw it is .50 a page so I can take a free pic and take it with me but she refused access to my records. And i believe its a $10 fee which is why I asked for an estimate so that I don't hand over a blank check. She also said the records belong to Sutherland which I am sure is not true. Also, there is a cap in Virginia of a maximum that can be charged. Know your rights.

Front desk is extremely rude. Almost every time I call whilst in the middle of talking I’ll be abruptly put on hold with a quick “hold on” before doing so. Wait time even with an appointment is ridiculous. No one there seems to care about you or your concerns, they’re just trying to get you out of the rooms as soon as possible. I’ve noticed they’re a lot less friendly to younger patients since this is a place many older people go to. 2 stars only because I’ve been going here a while and they USED to be a little better.

Been seeing Dr. Southall for years and trust him with my life. Always very thorough and never rushes through an appointment,willing to spend as much time as necessay.

NO STARS FROM THIS MILITARY FAMILY!!!Needless to say I would NOT recommend this office.. They tried to charge me for a missed appointment during the lockdown of VA due to COVID-19.. Only life threatening appointments were approved and they knew that mine was just a check up.. They chose not to cancel it then tried to charge me anyways.. Then when I called to request a copy of my record because I found out they were NOT actually Tri-care approved (thankful tri-care paid it anyways but said no more appointments) I was told to pick up the next day.. Went in and had to wait for the records even thought I had called the day before.. Then a month later they charged me for the copy of my records.. Mind you the two separate times I spoke with someone a fee was NEVER mentioned.. So I called and the manager(Debbie) I believe her name was agreed to wave the missed appointment (because it should have been canceled anyways due to the COVID-19 restrictions at the time)but refused to wave the copy records fee... Said it’s their policy and all their staff knew about the fee, but it was my fault for not knowing basically.. Told me if I didn’t pay it they would send it to collections...

My husband was told to come in the following morning to see doctor. He told them he had sinus problems and mucus coming out of his eyes. He came that next morning and he waited outside to see doctor and they told him they couldn't see him or prescribe him anything and just drink clear liquids. That obviously didn't help him at all. But they can see someone else with just a congested cough? Told him he needed to take a covid test which he already had one that week earlier. No covid symptoms either. Won't be going there anymore.

Dr Phipps, and Dr Southall on call and the staff at Sutherland Family Practice and Sutherland Pharmacy have been very helpful and professional through out the years for me since 2003 when we moved to the area.I cannot recommend them enough or thank them enough for all they do.

Sutherland Family Practice has provided excellent care for many years. Their staff is very knowledgeable and they take the needed time to understand and to help the patient understand their medical conditions and needs. They are readily available and always have a doctor on all. I appreciate their excellence.

My whole family attends Sutherland Family Practice, Dr. Southall Is immensely knowledgeable and friendly. Dr. S. Can proficiently see and help cure people of all ages and walks of life. I have gone as a walk in as well as to scheduled appointments, every time has been an above and beyond experience. Dr. S. Does not waste your valuable time and will not hurt your wallet by running needless tests, he is friendly but to the point, you’ll be in and out quickly compared with other family practices. The doctors there actually have knowledge of their profession instead of leaving you to go and pull up Web MD for a diagnosis and plan of action for your situations. I strongly recommend Sutherland Family Practice to all people and no I’m not a family member nor was I given any kind of incentive for writing this review. Any bad reviews about this institution were probably due to a miscommunication because sometimes information gets jumbled or in a hypothetical sense lost in translation. So just get in touch with the front desk and I believe that they will correct any and all issues with the greatest customer service around.

The two resident doctors here are great. Easy to get along with, very helpful and knowledgeable. Would recommend them to family, friends and co-workers without hesitation.
That said, there is not a time on earth when they are open that it is not crowded beyond belief, I'm talking from the time they open until the time they close. Which says something about how good these two doctors are.
I've shown up before they are open and there are at least 10 people, all elderly, waiting to bust down the doors to sign in for their daily diagnosis. This can be annoying being as I have a full time job and work nights so getting stuff done during the day cuts into my sleeping time...but it's understandable.
(10.2.18) Edit: Before, in my review I wrote about the staff being unfriendly and rude. Well I needed to edit that section out because this place has done a complete 180. The staff has been very pleasant on all of my visits for the past couple years.
I highly recommend gentlemen Phipps M.D. and Southall M.D.
