Ruth was a wonderful host! Her breakfast was over the top delicious and the Truitt House is absolutely beautiful! My husband and I stayed there overnight on our way to VA Beach. It was only a 50 minute drive to our destination. Such a great experience!

Why didn't we make time to stay more than one night?!! Ruth was so warm and welcoming. Her classical culinary training was quite obvious, skillfully putting the "breakfast" in B&B - WOW! The home, itself, is a beautiful piece of history; we need to return to learn more about it! The local restaurants and shops in the historic district were all within walking distance, which was very nice. Settling down for the evening, the occasional train whistles softened in volume (due to a noise ordinance, I imagine) and created a serene background. (If you are an extremely light sleeper, bring a small noise generator; that should me more than sufficient!)

The house is so significant to the area of Suffolk and a time past. It’s detail is so amazing and the size of the house is breathtaking. The bathrooms in room are awesome! Ruth is a wonderful host. Suffolk should be so honored to have someone who is so caring of a piece of their towns history. This place will only continue to grow into a gem for years to come with her caretaking!

Ruth is a wonderful hostess. The shower was amazing, bed comfy, library welcoming. Nice selection of coffee/tea. Many places to sit and relax. Many places were closed on Monday, but we did walk across the street to the Historical Society and learn a bit more about the area and other gorgeous houses.

We stayed at the Truitt House for two nights and it was amazing. The owner, Ruth, made our experience so memorable. She told us of the history of the house and its spectacular transformation into a bed-and-breakfast. We stayed in the king suite with a super comfortable bed and an attached sitting room. Ruth served us a delicious breakfast each morning and a four-course dinner one evening. She is a fabulous chef and we loved everything she prepared. We will definitely be returning!

We recently booked a one night stay at the Truitt House. I had previously attended an event here and instantly was charmed by the house itself and the wonderful owner, Ruth. I couldn’t wait to find an excuse to stay for a night. We luckily had the place to ourselves and booked a dinner with Ruth, a phenomenal chef, to start our stay. She had asked for our likes/dislikes in advance, but had not clued us in to what she would be making. Every course she made just happened to be my husband’s favorite everything so I’m convinced she is a mind-reader! Everything was so spectacular and eating in the gorgeous dining room really made the meal feel so truly special. The rest of our stay was just amazing. Ruth told us to make ourselves at home and she truly meant it. I think it is so hard to have both an elegant and comfortable experience, however the Truitt house nails it. To close out our stay, we had breakfast, also prepared by Ruth. She had warned us in advance that she only does meals in courses, so we were so excited for a three course breakfast! The food was again superb, and we so enjoyed chatting with Ruth over breakfast. I cannot stress enough how truly amazing this place is and cannot recommend it enough if you have the opportunity to stay. I cannot wait to return for another visit soon!

My wife and I spent three fantastic nights at the Truitt House. Ruth is the consummate hostess and made sure that our visit was a memorable occasion. The location was great with fantastic restaurants, stylish boutiques and an energetic downtown scene all within walking distance. Ruth is a fantastic chef and her breakfasts are a great way to start the day. A late night glass of wine in the library is a fantastic way to sit and unwind from a day of exploring. We will definitely return. Thank you Ruth!!

I had the pleasure of staying at The Truitt House for one night in April while visiting Suffolk on business. The only negative I can speak of is that I couldn’t stay longer. The house is spectacular — impeccably decorated and comfortable — and Ruth was the most wonderful host. I was traveling alone to a city I had never visited before, and Ruth immediately made me feel welcome and safe. It was such a pleasure getting to know her and about the history of the house. The breakfast she prepared was spectacular — I’m still thinking about the waffles! If you are visiting Suffolk, you cannot pass up a stay at The Truitt House. I hope to return in the near future and will be raving about it to family and friends!

My partner and I visited the Truitt House in July of 2021 for our Anniversary. The fact that I have a motivation(and some guilt, because of how great it was) to leave a review 6 months later is testament to Ruth's amazing hospitality during our stay. Her hard work and dedication to this beautiful property and its visitors is astonishing. She deserves all the love and praise that the review section boasts.Whether we were waking up early or sleeping in, we were greated by Ruth and or one of her lovely notes. Never left the House hungry, as she would leave us something special in the fridge. She gave her time and patience to inform us about the property, it's history and the area. Will definitely be coming back and hoping it will be soon. A beautiful building, experience and person. Quite frankly, it's amazing how many people are in consensus with their experience. You should "probably" check it out.Thank you for everything Ruth!

Perfectly delightful! The house has such huge spaces and yet such interesting unique features. The interior is restored with great care, very impressive and very comfortable. The bed in the salmon-colored room is superb, and I'm sure they all are. Breakfast is outstanding, as is Ruth's hospitality in general.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Truitt house for the second time. Our first stay was so wonderful that we had to go back and, once again, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The Truitt House itself is a historic architectural wonder, beautiful to behold, that should not be missed. On top of this, Ruth, the owner, is a generous and kind host who is a joy to be around. Besides being a gracious host, Ruth is an extremely gifted chef. We added a supper on this stay and the shrimp and grits and New England clam chowder were out of this world! For breakfast I had to have Ruth's eggs benedict again which is, hands down, the best I've ever had. Seriously, you've got to put a stay at the Truitt house on your bucket list.

The home is beautifully constructed and decorated, but the hospitality is what sets it apart. Ruth was such a gracious and attentive host. After giving me a tour, she gave several great dinner suggestions, as the house is within walking distance of plenty of great options. Breakfast was delicious, as well!

Ruth is such a great host. The house is stunning and rooms are decorated beautifully. Very easy to tell she takes pride in picking out everything she puts in the house.Breakfast was wonderful. Home made granola was to die for and scrumptious egg and sausage breakfast casserole.

Ruth is an amazing hostess. The Truitt House more than met our expectations. It felt as though we walked back into time to enjoy a piece of history. It is relaxing and inviting. Ruth is also a fantastic chef who provided breakfast each morning and paid special attention to dietary needs. I’m so glad we found this treasure that Suffolk has to offer. We will be back!
