Sauson bakes the freshest bread in town as you can have it find hot right out of bricks oven, I don’t have to take trip to Iran to have a fresh baked bread where I can have it here in Sterling Virginia. Thank you for given such a great and healthy service.

I love Sauson Market. Excellent food selection and friendly staff. It's nice that there are still family-friendly and family-owned places in the area. I always come here for all of my Middle Eastern food supplies. Carrying on the tradition of our favorite family recipes.

You can discover a wide variety of Middle Eastern items here! Just keep in mind, with such a diverse selection, it's important to check the expiration dates. Now, let's talk about catering and their delicious foods. Have you ever tried TAHCHIN, OLOVIEH, KASHKOBADEMJAN, and especially KOOBIDEH? They're must-tries and come highly recommended! I recently ordered them for my party, and everyone had a fantastic and flavorful experience.

Purchased some middle eastern sweets from here. It was overpriced and tasted awful. There was something seriously wrong with the baklava. I don't know what they did to it but it was as if it was made with bleach or something.

I recently had a disconcerting experience at Sasan Store that I feel compelled to share with potential customers. Approximately a week ago, following recommendations from friends, I visited the Sasan Store for my grocery shopping after about a year.Upon returning home, I discovered that the stone-baked bread had developed mold, and the biscuits and cream I purchased had exceeded their expiration dates, leading to spoilage. This incident raised concerns about the store's quality control and the absence of effective oversight of the freshness of its products.I find it perplexing that such establishments have no more stringent supervision, especially when the consequences of selling expired food products can be severe. Not only does it pose a risk to the health of consumers, but it can also lead to potentially severe cases of food poisoning. In light of this experience, I believe it is crucial to bring attention to these issues and encourage others to be vigilant when shopping at Sasan Store or similar establishments. It is essential for our safety and the well-being of our loved ones that we actively avoid patronizing stores that neglect the expiration dates and quality of their products.Your conscientious choice to refrain from supporting such stores can significantly prevent health hazards and promote responsible business practices.Thank you for taking the time to read about my experience, and I hope this serves as a cautionary note for others in the community.

I absolutely love visiting Sauson. It’s so much more than a grocery store! The owner and the employees are incredibly gracious and welcoming. They always offer us tea and cookies to sample. They have the most incredible bread and my favorite kind of labneh, so I love to go stock up. I love to try their spices and teas and baked goods. Order a kabob while you’re there, they are made fresh and are delicious!

An incredibly delightful place to shop! I just found this store. I looked around and was almost out the door that the owner behind the counter called me: Lady, please come here! Don't leave, he said! He offered me in the most kind way and gesture a cup of tea and for me to have a homemade Persian cookie to go with my tea. I turned around and could not leave without being thankful for his generosity and the gentleman he was. i had the tea and cookie then he offered bread, meanwhile there were a lot of other people there which we engaged talking, so friendly and wonderful bunch of great people!!! Then I purchased the delicious bread, a box of cookies and 2 scrumptious all times Iranian ghormeh-sabzi stew!!!! It was dellllicious! and the chicken kabob! the rice was made as if it had jewels in it! it was so beautifully decorated and delicious looking! I highly highly recommend for you to just stop by you will not shop anywhere else all because of the amazing genuine generosity, hospitality, and kindness of Mr. Sauson!Thank you!Souri Johnson

I don't get out to the Sauson International Grocery as often as I used to, but I still make the trip 1-2 times a month for mainly one thing: some of the freshest and tastiest bread in all of the DMV. Every culture has their own interpretation of taking the basic ingredients of flour, yeast, salt and water and transforming it via various baking methods into their version of "bread." There is a long history of using circular oval shaped ovens in Asia and the Middle East as a way of both conserving space and to efficiently cook foods with even heat distribution and small footprints in otherwise cramped kitchens. In India these ovens are called tandoors while in Japan they are referenced as kamados. Sauson International Grocery has been in operation since 2011, and the owner, who everyone knows as "Mr. Rashid," is of Persian descent having emigrated from Iran. He is always super friendly and willing to answer questions I may have about the wide variety of Middle Eastern spices and foods this place stocks. Don't be surprised if you strike up a conversation with him, and he offers you a cup of wonderfully spiced tea and a cookie or pastry from the delectable dessert case. As some of the reviews have noted, parking is tricky. There is a small covered garage under the building. But you may have to park at the nearby church or on the street and then walk over to the store. This place is well known for their bread, which is being made throughout the day. I came a bit later today, so they had just finished making a few batches. But it's not uncommon to witness skilled bakers kneading and rolling, and then slapping the dough onto the circular metallic oven for a few minutes, before piping hot fresh bread emerges. The bread is amazing. It is pliable, without being overly chewy. It is slightly salty, with a great smoky almost charred flavor. I've had it cut into pieces and then dipped with hummus or rolled into gyros or used to sandwich kabob meat. And believe it or not, it's even pretty good as a PB&J. Everyone, and I mean everyone, I've introduced this product to usually asks: (1). What type of bread is this? and (2). Where can I buy it? Note: As of this review, the current price is $8.05 for FOUR large round pieces of bread. Apart from the bread, there is also a small butcher shop in the back, and a kitchen where hot foods like kabob platters are made. There is also a small seating area in front of the store, where folks can sip tea and relax while enjoying sweets from the display case. Sauson is a really cool place and while I usually go with the intention of only buying bread, it's not uncommon for me to walk out with a few bags of unique Middle Eastern groceries.

This gem is a go-to for literally everything you need for a perfect Persian dish, treat, or trinket. Fully stocked aside, it's the lavash you HAVE to go for. Fresh, delicious, and made with incredible skill. We always buy in bulk to freeze so we never run out!
