Selling my car. Offered lower prices than several local dealers, where I ended up selling. Staff was helpful, but it's a long drive. It was useful in giving me a baseline to negotiate up from, but that's about it.

Great experience selling an old used car here. CarMax's online offer was the highest of five I had gathered online. Once I arrived, they inspected my car and reduced the online offer price because the "check engine" light was on (it had turned on that very morning I was driving to CarMax to sell), but their price reduction seemed reasonable to me given the circumstances. Moreover, they said I could take another week to think it over, so I appreciated that they didn't try to pressure me into accepting the lower price on the spot. I ended up going with their offer anyway because it was still higher than any other I'd received. The sale process overall took about 1.5 hours from start to finish, but they kept me updated of the status throughout, so I didn't feel like they were ignoring me. I deposited my check the same day. The whole experience was efficient and transparent.

Decided I wanted to sell my car, so I came in with the online offer which was very, very reasonable compared to what local dealers wanted to give me. Scheduled an appointment for 4 pm, appraisal took 30 minutes, signed a few papers, and boom, out at 5 pm with a check in my hand. Such an easy and haggle free process here, I 100% recommend selling your car here.

I bought a Volvo two months ago at Laurel Maryland CarMax, and the light went on for fixing. Took it in and the head lights have moisture problems and need to be sealed $3,700, both the main battery and the small auxiliary need to be replaced $665 and the tires are bald and need to be changed $1,300. Called Car Max as this was only two months ago and barely driven and it's on me. When they say the car is Certified, get a second opinioin on that before you buy it. Is it fraudulent? Don't really know.

The car selling experience is very easy with Carmax. I appreciate that I got an on-line quote that your technicians merely had to verify with an inspection. What I didn't like was the staff working the counter at the Business Center - they wouldn't make eye contact with people waiting in line, left us standing in line while they did what looked like nothing (at least until a manager walked by then suddenly they were willing to talk to us) and didn't call me as promised when my inspection was complete. I waited around the showroom far longer than necessary because no one called me. Had I not taken the initiative to stand in line (again), I never would have known my car was done.

The sales person I worked with Robert is freaking awesome and a pleasure to work with. Their prices are going to be a bit higher but I believe it’s worth it after having bad experiences with other small dealers. If you end up going to this carmax definitely try to see if rob is there he made my experience good.

If you are thinking on selling your car and you read online that CARMAX fairly appraises your vehicle, think twice. I have my vehicle appraised at carmax (vehicle almost new, less than 19k miles, no mechanical issues, in excellent conditions) and they offered me ~20% less than the fair KBB value, then I had it appraised by a regular Toyota dealer and even they appraised my car ~10% higher. I got several offers and ended up selling the vehicle for the fair KBB value of the car to a different dealer within a week of me posting my car for sale on sale. It’s sort of like appraising your house, looks like, make sure you send a while male to the appraisal so you get a fair offer, otherwise, you are wasting your time. My first CARMAX experience was definitely my last for selling or buying (for me and my family).

I’ve purchased two cars from this location. The first time everything was great. This second time, I did everything online over the phone with a sales guy who was amazing. When I went to Carmax Dulles to pick up my car it was an unpleasant experience. The business office/area children working the area are very unprofessional. Alot of whispering, goofing off, and just all around unprofessional.The person taking my down payment took the wrong payment- put it on my other car instead of the current one I was buying because he wasn’t paying attention. I will not be buying from here again based off the business office experience but for ease of purchase i do recommend carmax just not this location due to how unprofessional the business office was.
