The store itself is your standard, run of the mill, dirty gas station. Chips, candy, cheap beer, and soda. The fried chicken is ok, but lots of people on here seem to be giving it far more credit than it deserves. The potato wedges are garbage, and I have no idea why they are even a topic of discussion. Flavorless and mushy. No thanks.

Payton's is a good place in the area to cater a casual meal. Fried chicken, potato wedges, and coleslaw are staples. Having stopped for catering orders, to pickup lunch, and to pickup dinner, catering orders and lunch orders are the way to go. By the time dinner comes around, the wedges are soggy and there can be a limited selection of chicken. Everything is always fresh at lunch and when I've picked up catering orders.

There is only two pumps and usually you cant even use them because someone parked in front of them to go inside the store. The reason to stop at this gas station is not for the gas anyways, but for the food. Specifically the fried chicken. Its delicious and as the only fried chicken place here in Stanardsville, its the best. Potato wedges, coleslaw, and beans are available as sides. They also serve hamburgers, hot dogs, and fried gizzards on specific days. Get the chicken, you will not be disappointed.
