We visited ,what used to be my old elementary school and it has really changed.Lots of beautiful photo ops outside , different events and even a dance studio.You can reserve the hall for weddings and parties.A must see and experience for historical sites in and around my hometown of Martinsville and Henry County.

I would recommend using Spencer Penn, however I wouldn't recommend the library at the moment. Today my best friend and I took our 3 year Olds to the library. The librarian who we thought was very sweet at first quickly became very judgmental and rude. My child was acting as a 3 year old might for HIS FIRST TIME at a library by being over excited. The librarian says, "oh you aren't used to being told no" and also persistently stated he could benefit from a class her daughter taught. No wonder there aren't many people that come the library there because when she said that I instantly felt very unwelcomed and as if something was wrong with my child. So, if you go just be prepared to be judged.

Spencer Penn is a linchpin of the community. It is a well maintained historic landmark that keeps adding on. A new pavilion is being added currently. They just renovated a beautiful walking path. There is a track around a ballfield that people use for exercise. There is a good and active library. There are regular exercise and craft classes and they have live Bluegrass concerts the first Friday of every month. They are also a fantastic and inexpensive venue for events. Oh, and they have some of the best craft fairs around. Really can't say enough good about them. They do a great job.
